Church of The Transfiguration

Beautiful Romand Catholic church that has been well kept and well loved. I felt very welcomed here and will def come back for mass when I come back to NYC

Very good church and not as loud or hot like the local churches in fort lee. However the Chinese classes in the other building suck. During the pandemic, the teacher doesn’t even know how to do the zoom meeting correctly.

The Church of the Transfiguration, also known as the Little Church Around the Corner, is an Episcopal parish located at 1 East 29th Street in the Kips Bay neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. The church was founded in 1848 and is famously known for its commitment to the theater community, particularly to actors and actresses. It received the nickname "the Little Church Around the Corner" after it offered funeral services to a well-known British actor, even though he was not a member of the church. Since then, the church has continued to welcome and serve the theater community, hosting the annual Blessing of the Animals ceremony as well as concerts and theatrical performances. The church building itself is a notable example of neo-Gothic architecture and features stained-glass windows, a bell tower, and a pipe organ.

Beautiful place to visit. The whole area is full of small business, many places to eat and shop for cheap souvenirs around here.

Just wanted to give a shout to the people at this church! We were walking through Chinatown and my daughter really needed to use the restroom. They were nice enough to let us in the school and even walked us through the building to show us where the restrooms were. Truly, this is the kindness that one would hope to see of people who profess to love Jesus.

Beautiful old church. Gorgeous ceiling with gold and cream detail. Originally Italian parish but now vibrant Chinese community runs it and is in heart if Chinatown. So glad it was not destroyed/sold/let run down. English mass said on Sunday well attended. I learned that Dorothy day worked in this neighborhood and helped the poor here. Great history. May this church survive and thrive for many more centuries to come!

Beautiful historic stone church located in Chinatown. My great- grandparents were married here in 1870 so it holds significance for me. The lovely wooden interior belies its origins as a Protestant church. Masses are offered in English, Spanish and Chinese.

I was very very suprised to stumble upon this catholic church in the heart of Chinatown.
