Cedar Hall Moravian Church

In 1756 the Moravian came from St. Thomas and established settlement in Antigua. Their settlement in St. John's is situated at Spring Gardens, at the extreme north on the city.

In 1822 they erected the Cedar Hall Moravian Church and School on a rocky summit in Jennings Village.
Build first of wooden structure the church has changed in structural design until what it appears to be today when it was last rebuilt in the 1960's. There missions were to teach divine truths to the negro population. Almost all of the older folks in the community of Jennings and Bolands aimed were to attend the Cedar Hall school to at least gain a seven standard education.
The school at this compound was finally closed in the 1963 when the Jennings Secondary School was built a as gift from the Canadian Government.
At present the church roofing is indeed of some major refurbish and repairs. Reinforcement of the water soaked rafters will be at hefty cost and a closed of church in this building. The compound also houses the mission home, and a newly rebuilt school room which is able the host services just in case.
Hundred year old mahogany trees are a blend of this establishment as they provides cooling and shelter to the compound and burial ground.

Cedar Hall Moravian Church is located in the southern village of Jennings in Antigua and Barbuda within proximity to the Jennings Secondary and Jennings Clinic. Within the Cedar Hall Moravian Church Yard are other structures including an Infant School and possibly a Manse. The Church is not on the Valley Road passing through the area but on a slightly inclining road adjoining said road.

The buildings and grounds are well kept and maintained with flower gardens and vegetation in generous amounts around the compound. It would be remiss of me not to mention the Church yard Cemetery and its well thought out positioning on the property. The architecturally and aesthetically pleasing Church Building occupies a deserved prominent position on the property and I could not help but think that the back of the building was facing the entrance of the spacious and generously proportioned property.

The Cedar Hall Moravian Church has and will continue its part in the lives of members of the community and the Nation as a whole and all visitors are welcome.
