Excellent Hindu temple in colombo. Relatively new but has the feel of an ancient, traditional South Indian Hindu temple. Main deity is lord murugan, but has idols of other gods too. Must visit for any Hindu in colombo or visiting colombo.

Slave island Sri Murugan Temple also known as கொம்பனித்தெரு முருகன் கோயில் is situated in Colombo, Srilanka. The temple was built by Sir Ponnmpalam Chettiyar who also built Sri Ponnampalavaneswaram Temple situated in Kochikadai, Srilanka.

The sanctum houses lord Murugan with his consorts Valli & Theivanai. On the outer prakaram, there are smaller shrines for Nalvar, Durgai, Pillayar, Sivan, Vishnu, Saneeswaran, Sandeswarar and Navagraham. The Vasantha Mandapam faces the main Rajagopuram. There are smaller shrines for Suryan & Chandran.

The temple follows traditions from Nallu Kandasamy temple whereby men are not allowed in to the inner mandapa with their upper cloths.

Surasamharam and annual thiruvilza are very special.

One of the best Hindu temples in Sri Lanka. You can perform any kind of Poojas at this temple and you'll find very friendly, helpful staff who will guide you inside the temple. This place is mostly about Lord Murugan (katharagama god) but they perform poojas for Lord Ganesha, Goddess Durga and Navagraha gods as well. I highly recommend this place to all Hindu devotees and to those who spend malefic times from planets.

Spectacular by day. Even more by night. Often hidden on a backroad, this kovil is truly magnificent.
