Beautiful place, the castle is situated on Lambton Park which is the historic seat of the earls of Durham.

Lambton Park has remained relatively private over the years, but now approximately 13.4 kilometres of permissive footpaths have been opened up south of the River Wear, allowing residents and the public to enjoy the nature, landscape and heritage of the Park.. it’s absolutely beautiful and I highly recommend a visit.

Nice walks. Would be better if the different permissive paths were labelled with text or colour markers

Came here for the Little Lindi festival which was set across the grounds of the castle. The castle provided a great backdrop to the music arena. The grounds were lovely with lots of paths to walk along. Nice walk along the river to the rear of the castle. Didn’t park in the car park as it was being used by the organisers of the festival for parking trucks.

Very peaceful walk among extraordinary trees and carpets of bluebells with fantastic views. Well kept paths and not very difficult ones. Seems to be quite popular among dog walkers and families. Parking is £3 cash.
If you're planning a long walk take plenty of drink and snacks.
Definitely worth visiting.

Excellent walk but definitely needs to only be open for so many days a year not constantly keeps the air of mystery about and also keeps it more natural. If you are planning on walking the entire 7 mile make sure you have food and drinks, that is the only thing I would suggest maybe a little shop on the way around

Fantastic walk around Lambton Park, only open Sundays currently but hopefully that changes next year. Some tough spots uphill when muddy so some areas are not for the unsteady out there.
