For nearly three years, Orlando Met Ballet has become a family to my family. I have a son, almost nine, and a daughter, about seven, who have greatly been affected by OMBA in ways I can’t describe.
For starters, they have helped to break the stigma that boys don’t do ballet to boys who are fantastic at ballet! The amount of confidence my son has gained is tremendous when telling friends not only does he do ballet, but he gets to perform with beautiful, talented, and focused young ladies. Now, although that’s not a massive thing for him now…I’m sure in the future, his friends will be jealous of his confidence.
My daughter has started to exude this stage presence I’ve never seen before. Her posture and balance have greatly improved. Something that I have noticed as well is her ability to watch others' movements and complete the movement with minimal effort.
I am in constant awe of how my children interact with teacher Laura and how her training has changed them. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for my children in the hands of Mrs. Laura and the other teachers, Nichole, Camila, Paloma, and Carla. I am excited about every opportunity they are offered because of the training they receive in and out of ballet.

I don't have enough words to thank this academy for the love, passion and dedication they project to all the students. I have seen the restless nights of the director to bring the students the best education possible. Ballet is discipline sport, and teaching our kids organization and communication skills is one of the strongest characteristics of the academy. Thank you all on the support to our children dreams.

My daughter has been attending this academy since October of 2018 til now. Things were ok in the beginning. We chose this academy because the prices were fair and it was convenient due to the location. However after a while I started to see things I didn’t like such as possible favoritism and lack of face to face communication from the director to myself and my mom who pays for the classes and also takes my daughter to practice most of the time.

There are a few reasons why I felt there was some favoritism going on. One of them is I once did my daughters hair the way they require (a bun) for practice except I decided to give my daughter bangs. Didn’t think the school would have a problem with this since another little girl in the same class also had bangs only her hair texture was different from my daughter’s. My daughter has very dark, curly hair while the other child had fine, straight blonde hair. When my daughter arrived to practice that day with bangs for the first time the director took it upon herself to pin my daughters bangs back. My problem with that is, as a ballet instructor you should not be touching a students hair without the parents permission. Secondly, why allow one child to wear bangs but not another? Not sure if it had to do with the difference in hair types or just favoritism as I previously stated, but either way it was wrong.

Now my second problem with this academy-communication. Since the beginning of the classes the directors have always relied on emails to communicate with parents. Which is fine, however when you have parents who may live busy lives and don’t check their email often or don’t rely on technology to communicate I think it is important to take the time to talk face to face with each students parents when they ask simple questions. The directors tended to be somewhat dismissive whenever I or my mother had questions that they may have addressed in emails which is very frustrating. Obviously if I’m asking you about something that you sent in an email, it’s because I either didn’t read or didn’t receive the email or hey maybe I just forgot. Simply putting reminders/flyers of important things on a bulletin would’ve been satisfactory rather than relying on parents to go online all the time.

The other problem that I had with this Academy which is also due to lack of communication is that they were not responsible when coming up with the date of the dress rehearsal for the recital. It conflicted with my daughters graduation date from her school, which is literally in the same plaza as the ballet academy. She was not the only student in the academy who attended this school and graduated the same day as dress rehearsal. When my mother brought that to their attention, they just told us we had to choose between the 2 events. So after paying all this money to this academy, now my daughter either has to miss her graduation or miss the most important rehearsal of the year and be unprepared. Knowing that they had students that attend this school I think they could have and should have investigated to make sure they were not conflicting with graduation especially during graduation season.

They also for some reason don’t want the students wearing underwear underneath their leotards. I find it highly inappropriate to ask a 5 year old not to wear underwear to practice. So what if her undies show. She’s not performing so it shouldn’t matter. I could understand possibly doing that for her recital but for practice I think it’s unnecessary.

They need to get it together.

Orlando Metropolitan Ballet Academy is not only a Academy where you learn ballet but it is a place where you grow a family and a relationship with everyone their. You learn something new every time you go and grow a special connection with everyone their. Not only is OMBA a place to grow a new family and home away from home but you learn discipline, respect and more. I’ve learned so much from OMBA and they will always be by your side no matter what.

It is a place we’re you can learn and get the technique you need and want. A place where everybody becomes family and a place where you can express yourself. It is an amazing ballet studio and I love it so much.
