Went on a bird walk hosted by the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County. The main trail is wide and packed limestone so very comfortable to walk. There are also mowed grass trails. This former farmland is now a mix of tall and short grasses that many types birds love. We saw bobalink, common yellowthroat, dickcissel, grasshopper sparrow, song sparrow, aavannah sparrow and many other grassland birds. We passed many neighbors going on a stroll. Very nice preserve and plenty of parking too.

The trails were okay. Very wide. There were some areas that were completely wet and muddy. Many horse tracks create a bumpy surface, so not great for running.
May 12th 2024 was prime bird watching. Seen or heard today: Tennessee, magnolia, Blackburnian, Nashville, yellow throat, Northern parula warblers. Also indigo bunting, blue gray gnatcatcher, rose breasted grosbeak, orioles, Robin, cardinal, blue jay, red bellied woodpecker, cat bird, redwing black bird, red eyed vireo, and more
Hawthorne was in bloom. Very special!
