☕️They have a café on the ground floor, where you can order a drink and enjoy it in the beautiful garden connected to this mansion.

The Museum Van Loon was a beautiful stroll through history in the heart of Amsterdam. What we'd learned about the history of the Dutch economy and culture during our tour at the Rjiksmuseum was echoed and exemplified throughout this beautiful home. A rare treat and respite from the modern world outside, this was a lovely experience indeed. I hope to return with my mother someday!

I regret spending my money here. No audio guide so you have to walk around with a pamphlet that described each room. The problem was that they ran out of English pamphlets so we had to read them on our phone, but Wi-Fi was spotty. Also, there seemed to be preparations for some event so there was loud vacuuming, dishes clanking together while being washed, it just took away from the experience. I wish I could get my money back. For this price there should definitely be an audio guide with headsets. Go to the museum of the church in the attic instead. THAT is a well done museum.

Fascinating museum that you are unlikely to need to book in advance, unlike most places in Amsterdam.
Normally the exhibition informs the visitor about the historic Dutch family that lived here. When we visited we were informed on arrival that there was a temporary exhibition reflecting on the "people behind the wealth". This was incredibly well done and gave a voice to the slaves and servants that served the family. It was produced in collaboration with descendants of these people. It did obscure a lot of the normal exhibits but as we were warned about this before paying we really weren't bothered.
There's also a beautiful courtyard garden which we enjoyed greatly.

This museum was recommended by someone who lives in Amsterdam and conducts private tours. He suggested it because it is one of the few old houses that has a large back garden that extends from one street to the street behind. It dates to the 1600s and does have an impressive back garden and coach house.
It is a fine example of how wealthy Dutch lived. The Van Loons were with the Dutch spice trading companies.
I only give it a 3 star rating because the special exhibit was installed the rooms in such a way that the rooms were totally obscured behind special exhibit temporary walls. So it was impossible to get a really full picture of how the Van Loons lived. The exhibit was to illustrate the lives of blacks who served the Van Loons. Worthy and needed perspective but poorly executed.
The signage throughout the museum was hard to read-small font and too light.
I do not know the cost to enter as it was covered in our IAMmsterdam access card, which I recommend purchasing while touring the city.

It was interesting enough given it was based on slavery. The exhibits referred to it but not quite as reflective as some items in the Rijksmuseum. It could also do with more furniture! I’m sorry for the 1* reviews, be a respectful visitor and you’ll be fine.

Feels like a secret diamond in the city. One unique way to dig deep into this mansions you only see from the outside. Amazing to step foot in this same floors, rooms, stairs and kitchen more than 250 years old! Rooms and decorations felt like you can hear the ghosts from the past. Garden and horses house also amazing. A quiet place with so much history. Dont miss the little video room near the kitchen downstairs

This elegant 17th-century canal house turned museum is a must-visit for those seeking to immerse themselves in the history, art, and opulence of Amsterdam's past. One of the highlights of Museum Van Loon is its exquisite interior. The beautifully preserved rooms are a testament to the refined taste and grandeur of the Van Loon family, who were prominent Amsterdam regents. The museum's period furniture, fine art, and decorative objects offer a glimpse into the lifestyle of the Dutch elite during the Golden Age, providing a fascinating insight into the history and culture of the time. Included in the Dutch Museum card.
