Cathay Restaurants

It is a takeout place, so unfair to rate it for atmosphere though.
It was clean, the food was tasty, the service was fast and excellent and the prices are reasonable. Definitely worth trying

And older building, but very clean. We enjoyed very excellent egg rolls and general tao’s chicken

We have been ordering from Cathay's for like close to 30 years (ooofff), and it never disappoints. Excellent food, great portions, and decent prices - not too mention fast delivery and awesome staff. I love the mushroom egg foo young and the Chinese greens (seems like such a simple thing but I was never able to recreate it myself). If you are looking for a great place to order Cantonese food from, look no more!

We placed our order by phone. It was the same order we had always placed. A young man took the order. He made 2 mistakes. I only discovered the mistakes once i got the order home. I called to get some satisfaction and was told they would replace the one dish and the error in the sauce received. But having to return made the timing, to be able to eat, about 45 minutes from the time the original order was picked up. I requested the whole order be replaced because the other part of the order would be cold. But I was refused. Other parts of our order were not really microwavable. This was the most disappointing experience we have ever had with Cathay.
After well over 10 years of frequenting this establishment, they have lost our business !!!

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in Ottawa (even tho the sign says Vietnamese) the kitchen is extremely clean (I used to deliver food here so I've seen the employees only areas) Family owned and I implore people to come here!

PS: they have my favorite egg rolls in town as well.

PSS: Their prices have gone up since COVID by almost 60%

The food is normally good it’s the only place in Ottawa I get Chinese food from but lately ribs are very tough and then on top of the food quality changing normally I tip if I can the last time my order was $165 so I didn’t have enough for tip but the delivery guy sits in my door way and says can I have some tips!! Now I understand tips is where they make most of their money but sometimes people just can’t afford a tip and they should not have to feel obligated to look around the house or ask somebody because their driver is going up to the doors asking for the tips. Are they even suppose to be asking customers to give them tips???

Finally a place that has good black ended eggrolls. So hard to find in ottawa. The lemon chicken and crispy beef were really good. I only wished the fried rice would be a little bit more flavourful but worth the try.
