Would recommend booking tickets in advance as we went in the morning and the first availability was for 12:30pm. It is a guided tour which talks you through the history. You cannot enter the library, you can only stand at the door and take a picture. You then make your way to the top of the tower for the viewpoint. Tour took around an hour from start to finish and began promptly.
Din't do my homework before going in,i was hoping to walk around the library,but only got chance to obseve it from special area,still worth it.Tours are guised,so i recommend to buy ticket online,i had to buy tour in Chech language,becouse for the next english one i had to wait for 2 hours,some narrow staircases,so few older people,could't reach the top,so before going you should estimate your chances.
A stunning library, really worth seeing.
You have to go on a tour to see it, there’s no other way.
If you have vertigo, it’s challenging. There are small spiral staircases to take you to the 2nd floor- to see the library, and then wooden straight staircases as you start to go up into the tower. I made it up to the first one of these, to see the meridian line, but chose not to go further.
The tour guide (in English) was excellent, she was so knowledgeable, and generous with time, making sure everyone had had enough time to see the library before going on.
Even without the view from the top of the tower it was well worth the money.

Worth to visit. Especially with morning discount. Great view from the tower. Library is wow, but you are not allowed to enter inside it, only to watch from the door corner
The view is breathtaking on top of the tower! The ancient library was gorgeous! But it will be closed starting Jan 1 2023 permanently! Hopefully it will reopen to public one day again in the future!
Worthwhile to pay a visit as to see one of ancient libraries in Europe and also get to a tower top for bird eye views on Prague surrounding. It’s not cheap but acceptable. Problem was, as it says the guide tour has max 25 people but today we ended up having a late guide as well as having more than 40 people in the batch that made the quality of tour not as ideal. Also the reception was rude and impatient, not what it supposed to be as an important spot in this tourist city.
When we found out that the secret activity was to see the library everybody got excited. We came a bit earlier than excepted and we thought we would be able to adjust the time when we came, however, we got a strict reply that we need to wait. The wait was not that long, and in matter of minutes it was hour turn. To get up to the library, you have to go up the stairs that does in circular formation. At one point I felt dizzy and it was a long way (ps. There is an elevator that goes up to the library)
Our guide was you gr in his early 20ish and he was brilliant he interacted with the group, but then again we were only 7 people so not your normal group.
It was great to see the library and it gives me the Harry Potter vibe as the room is semi dark, and you are surrendered by ancient books. The room only light was the electric light rather then natural daylight. The library reminds me of the beauty and the beast movie, the part Bella was shown the castle library .
You were not allowed to touch, you were not allowed to take a pic with a flash, and along with us came 2 ladies acted like Marshall. They would tell you off if you deviated from the set of rules etc. And would raise their voice borderline screaming no you cabt do that.
It was a pleasure to get the opportunity to see the library, the "ladies" put a damper on the excitement; perhaps killed it.
After the library, we went further up to the astronomy tower, more steps, one steeper than the other and up we go. Before arriving to the top, you passes two chambers each with their function, before continuing to the top.
When you finally arrive at the final chamber the top floor, regardless where you stood you would get a 360 view of the city.
Heights is not something I particularly like, so if your like me enjoying the view might be a challenge or takes time to enjoy.
