Very nice museum in a very nice (and very old) town

Not to be missed when you visit Rothenburg! Tooky wife and I about 90 minutes to wander through. Lots of cool things to see and learn about.

We entered this museum near the closing time. So we didn't have much time in hand to explore the whole museum thoroughly. But whatever we saw there, it was an amazing experience. Because as a crime thriller movie and story geek, when I read and watch about the tortures and punishments of the mediaeval times, all of those are properly collected and preserved here. I wish we could have some more time. If you ever decide to visit Rothenburg, I suggest you to make time for visiting this museum if you're interested in these.

This museum is bigger than it looks. There are lots of artefacts with a great deal of information. All of the information is on German, with an English translation on some displays.
Over the three floors of the main building, there are various displays: instruments used for punishment; details of how the justice system was imposed, and how it changed; animals used as punishments, and much more. There is further information as a timeline over two floors in a second building. There is a cafe next to that.
It cost us €9.50 each, which was good value considering we spent well over an hour in there and there was a lot to see.
There are toilets in the museum. There are a lot of stairs, but I don't recall seeing a lift.

This is a fascinating and entertaining museum with all kinds of things you've probably never seen before. Worth spending some time in to take it all in. Be warned though it is a fair bit of walking on hard stone floors so wear comfortable shoes (but that goes for basically all of rothenburg too)

It was interesting for a rainy day. Some parts were interesting. I think I would have liked more information about what happened medically and how survivors fared later in life. (If known)

Great experience lot of intraments of torture. English discriptions in most items. Well worth a visit cost 8.50eu each.
