We came for lunch after the farmers markets downtown. Our brother in law had been here before. Ok, it is not a 5 star beach restaurant, a plain building and interior, but not plain food. It reminds me of the small cafes in Northern New Mex, and Southern Colo. You walk in, the food smells so good, like home. We had tacos, burrito, and torta, more food than we could eat. The flavor was so good. Last word, muy bien!

I was a customer of this establishment back when they operated out of a food truck. I was appalled at the amount of negative reviews and during a trip back home to LC I decided to stop by and try the tacos I once loved joined by its delicious red salsa. To say that their food is not good is an understatement. I hope they go back to the times when that man was grinding out of the food truck and pouring his heart into his food and service. Not sure if it was sold but this is probably some of the worst tacos I’ve ever had. Ladies working were polite and restaurant was nice.

Nice place, good service, birria was good, fajitas fair
Got some Birria Quesadilla Tacos, and I'm so glad I did. The chips and green chile salsa to start welcomed my friend and me in with a good kick, and the meal itself was well presented, full of flavor, and perfect in size. The environment was family friendly with Scooby-Doo playing on the TV and some classic Selina playing in the background. The waitress and servers gave the sincere impression that they were happy to be there and made me and my friend feel like valued customers. Definitely coming back.

I used to be a customer at the food truck and it was so good and fast, now as a restaurant it is SI SLOW, I ordered one taco plate and a kids quesadilla and I have been waiting in line for 30+ minutes and I was the only person here, now there is a long line behind me and I still haven’t gotten my food. And of course was already charged $22 for those 2 things so I can’t just leave. This is ridiculous.

Tonight was our first visit, and it was awful in every way. The cheese wasn't even melted on the beans, and the rice and beans were cold to the touch. My quesabirria tacos were mediocre and not particularly heated. We won't be returning. Dissatisfied with this restaurant.

This place was better as a food truck.

As a restaurant it's bad. It's a friendly place that gives a good family feeling. But that's not translated to the food.

Quasdilla had fat, it was stringy as if it wasn't cut properly, or sorted.

The birria tacos were soggy and extremely stuck together. Picture enchiladas with birria sticking out from both ends.

No crunch. And consume was so watered down, you can tell they were trying to make it last or get more out of the broth without having to make more.

The El pastor was porkchop texture. Too thick and not thin like all pastor would normally be. They also had 1 inch long onions in the tacos. They weren't finely chopped.

We had days burgers and burger nook close down that were actually good places to eat. It this place cant capture that food truck spirit again, I don't see it staying open past 15 years.

As a Hispanic person I enjoyed eating here. I don't think mateos is a Mexican restaurant. It's very del taco like authenticity. Taqueria Chavez had that magic food truck touch and I would go to this food truck almost every other week. It was that good. All the details of a taco were on point. Im rooting for it to succeed, but I hope this review helps them and the guests planning to eat here.
