Guruvayurappan Hotel is a fantastic spot for traditional food lovers.
The black rice kanji is a must-try—it's rich, flavorful, and feels like a healthy, hearty meal.
The rest of the menu offers a wide variety of authentic dishes that are equally delicious. The ambiance is warm and inviting, and the staff is friendly and attentive.
Overall, it's a wonderful place to enjoy a satisfying meal in a comfortable setting.

Variety atmosphere.
A different ambience.

Open since 6 am Sree Guruvayoorappan Hotel entertains locals and tourists alike. This restaurant is known for their delectable, early-morning specials called Appams which were a favorite of Late A. P. J. Abdul Kalam who used to frequent the place for breakfast.

A modest interior, simple seating arrangements and swift service are quintessential features of this local eatery. Apart from Appams, Guruvayoorappan is known for their delicious fish fry which comes to your table oozing flavors of the Indian Ocean.

The squid speciality, Kanava Thoran is also a popular choice among patrons.

This hotel is situated at the junction opposite Gandhaari Amman Kovil. Because it’s located at the junction without any prominent signage, it’s a bit difficult to find and almost resembles an old house. While entering, the wall at the entrance displays photos of the owner with several legendary Indian personalities. The first photo that caught my attention was of APJ Abdul Kalam. There are also photos of Yesudas dining with his family. While paying the bill, I asked about the connection between APJ Abdul Kalam and the owner. An elderly man smiled and said, 'Kalam Sir had eaten here for more than 20 years.' His eyes glittered with pride as he shared this. It’s astonishing to think that such a significant figure dined here for such a long period, as 20 years is a considerable span in his lifetime. What’s even more remarkable is that the owner isn’t using these cherished memories to market his business. The reality is, people don’t eat at a place just because legends have eaten there, they come for the quality of the food and service. That’s what makes the difference. The vegetarian options, especially for breakfast, are excellent. The black rice kanji, served only at night, is a special item here. I had breakfast, lunch, and dinner here and was very satisfied with both the food and the service provided.

This is a heritage restaurant in the heart of Trivandrum. It's famous for hosting APJ Abdul Kalam and you can also see his photographs on the wall of this restaurant. The interior decoration is simple and the food prices are quite affordable. Just opposite to this restaurant there is a beautiful temple that you should visit. Recommended.😊
