My friend and I had an interesting experience tonight - overhearing how the chef spoke to a customer who seemed to be asking for more sauce for his meat which should have been the gravy for the meat and not for fries
For the expense of the food I was surprised as it seems the gravy is packaged and therefore not available
The chef was not happy at the request -
Seems like the waitress forgot maybe!?
It is not what one expects to hear and is not conducive to a pleasant encounter so not really recommended

I dine out 3 to 4 times a week and can't remember the last time I was treated so bad at a fine dining restaurant. They ruined my meal, and made me pay for it despite my legitimate complaint. The server and manager acknowledged what she did but refuse to take a lousy $35 from a $150 bill. The chef came out threatening me cause a scene. The purest customer service EVER!

First of all the conditions of fairways and greens were fantastic. Maybe the best greens I played on all year. Some really nice views that reminded me a bit of Sea Island in Georgia. Good food and good people. The reason for a 3 is just the layout. There are too many blind carries and forced layups to make this a course fun to play. If they just took some of the marshland out at least to provide a line of vision down the fairway, the course would be really really nice. Probably would not play it again for $146 and would stop at TPC Toronto to play on the way up to cottage land for that money. Great shape though!

Got a chance to play this as part of a guys weekend. We did Oak Bay on the way home from Deerhurst, and I personally found it nicer than Deerhurst. Was it harder....yes, were the greens much faster...also yes. The scenery more than made up for the challenges. It is a tougher course for a high handicap player, and the fact that any ball hit OB is probably gone due to all the poison ivy.

The carts have fairly acurate GPS and the hole fly by option looks as good as some simulator courses you could see at your local indoor spot.
The only other thing was my Garmin watch had the holes mixed up. Hole 1 was 10 on my watch and 10 was 1. The nines played out after that. Not sure if this is a Garmin issue or Oak Bay...just wanted to mention it.

There was a bunch of rain the day we played, but everything drained very well and the course was still very playable. A handful of holes had some moisture issues and the bunkers were more mud than sand (those things happen with the weather that hit the area).

There were no ball washers on the course or the cart and for the money you'd expect something to be able to get the mud off your balls. No cart girl that day, but again with the weather we had, it was expected. They did notify us and each cart had a cooler on it to hold any drinks you wanted to take.

Its a bit of a trek from where I am to play regularly but if you're in the area (or live in Barrie) it is worth the trip out there.
Facilities are lovely. The course is in excellent condition. Particularly loved the fast true greens.
But…

No driving range for a course this challenging, at this price, is problematic.

I’m a 13 handicap and this course was far too hard for me, even from the whites. The course is very tight. To add to this 5 foot tall rough has been deliberately left from the tees to the fairways (often 150 yards away) obscuring the hole and the landing area on numerous holes. Although the holes are shortish from the whites (mid 300s) not being able to see where to place the shot or see it after it landed was not conducive to a positive round. As a first time player at Oak Bay I found these layout decisions overly challenging and frankly just not enjoyable.
Sorry to be a negative Nelly but the proclivity of poison ivy guarding the edge of the narrow fairways on almost every hole was the straw that broke the camels back.
So although the course is great condition and the layout and location is lovely,
I won’t be playing it again.

Beautiful course! Unforgiving though, and very narrow for the average Joe… bring a few extra balls. Would love to come back at the end of the season and see if it’s as tough as it felt!

Really Love Oak Bay, tough challenging course with a beautiful back drop. Also the Food at the club house is exceptional. The traditional wood burning oven is Money.
