Haven’t been able to get out here in the warmer months, but the path follows a dike through some open marshland alongside a train track (expect at least one train on your visit). Path is very flat and does not experience much elevation deviance. Overall a good path for light activity
The area is fairly calm, but does certainly experience animal activity (great for bird watching/hunting). Trail is just about a mile one way, which is perfect because it leads to a nice river underneath the train track where I can imagine a good swimming hole forms in the summer.

What a great place, especially off season. Not a soul to bother you, ... And if you like wildlife and bird watching, great site!

Beautiful place! A must visit and walkabout destination.

Update 12/27/20024 the state park CLEARED THE TRAIL!!!! It is gorgeous, cross country skiers already made trails, definitely enough room to walk side by side or stand by the side while someone passes you. We had seen an excavator with a brush attachment clearing the front entrance but I couldn’t believe they actually cleaned up the trail. Hoping this maintenance continues as this trail is beautiful. Giving it 5 stars now!
I love the marsh trail, it’s about a little more than an hour walk. It’s NOT maintained very well, lucky if the area is mowed once a year. More people would be able to enjoy the trail if the path was cleared for people to walk safely. Update** the spots along the gravel road/ river were mowed, the trail itself got one pass partially down and back. Oddly the trail in the woods (leading to Ausable river )was mowed to the bridge where the train tracks meet the river but very minimal mowing was done on the main trail. When this area is mowed properly the trail is wide enough to walk side by side. Still after the one pass mown a person is only able to walk in a single file….a little dangerous for trail running but partially cleared🤷🏻♀️.

Fantastic day snow, sun.great day on lake Champlain even in February!!!

As a campground for people who enjoy water sports and nature, you can find marsh and gentle river places to paddle and observe blue heron, osprey, and kingfishers as well as a beach on Lake Champlain for swimming and using water kites. Boat rentals are available nearby on Route 9. It is a short distance to the town of Peru where supplies and ice are available. Campsites vary from pretty exposed to very private. There is a lovely hiking trail along the marsh, but unless the state has recently mowed its difficult to navigate.

Loved this marsh and beach area... you could go so far down the beach and then got into the park territory. You can drive to a certain point for free and then the end has the campground. I wasn't able to go in because I was running or off daylight and we were camping at Ausable chasm campground, but if we were to go back to the area, we would definitely check that camp out too! Lots of fishing and kayaking that I could see!!! Nice parking areas too.
