Buddy was our tour guide. It was a fantastic tour of the cemetery, and Buddy’s comical commentary and breadth of historical knowledge were the perfect pair. Hands down one of the top things we did on our trip to New Orleans. The cemetery is so old, and the crypts and vaults were amazing. It truly is a walk through the city of the dead.
This is an experience NOT to be missed! You've never experienced a cemetery quite like the cemeteries in NOLA! This is not a ghost hunt or spooky stories. This is a factual, historical guided tour offering insight into how and why the aboveground crypts came to be and their development over the years. The most amazing part of this tour was Zelda, our tour guide! She was so informative and such a great storyteller. My only complaint is that I wish the 45-minute tour was twice as long because I could listen to Zelda telling stories indefinitely. Don't miss this during your visit!
I'm tardy to review - but Zelda did a wonderful job as a tour guide during my visit to New Orleans on April 14, 2023. She was humorous and informative. I did prepurchase my ticket, which I would recommend - and the tour started right on time. Review and tip her generously!
One of the most amazing experiences at New Orleans!! Our tour guide, Will, was thorough and seemed very excited about telling us the history while adding a splash of comedic relief. He was funny, knowledgeable, and professional! I do not think the experience would have been the same had he not been our tour guide! I would also like to thank the young lady behind the counter. We erroneously booked our tour for October 1st instead September 3rd. Even though the 10 am tour was full, they all made an exception and we couldn’t have appreciated it more as we came a long way to see this beautiful historical site!
Our tour guide Jeff was fantastic, he gave us a very thorough background for each site, was cognizant of the heat and directed us towards shade as available, had the perfect balance of humor and seriousness, all with the utmost respect for those we visited, which was much appreciated and it didn't feel like we shouldn't have been touring a cemetery. He also very clearly cared very deeply about being able to share the history of the people and sites visited. A very passionate fellow that I am so glad was able to share with us that passion and information learned because of it. Would highly recommend and do another tour if we ever are back in NOLA.
Also yes, the protestants were also explained in the cemetery, and it was a bonus to learn about them because I thought it was a very Catholic resting place

We booked this tour after already doing the Lafayette #1 cemetery tour and the Metairie cemetery tour. It felt like a “have to do it” tour since it’s the oldest cemetery and has notable figures within.
It’s a quick tour and more on the “entertaining” end of the spectrum compared to educational and historically accurate. Since the only way to visit this cemetery is through a paid tour, we had no other choice, but would have preferred to visit on our own without feeling like cows getting herded.
Our guide was very nice, but after experiencing other tours with a notable and educated author, I questioned if the guide truly knew her stuff or was only telling the group things to entertain.

We wanted to do something besides eating or drinking all day so we took the official St. Louis Cemetery #1 tour. We showed up and checked in easily. Our tour was guided by Buddy who was excellent! I really enjoyed the personal anecdotes he shared around his history in the area. Overall I was really impressed with the tour and happy we decided to spend our morning there!
