We are very disappointed , we’ve been coming to mvngata for the past 2 years every time we visit Playa del Carmen which is twice a year or more . They used to let us seat at the restaurant without asking for a minimum of consumption and we were able to use the pool too . We actually spent more than what they were asking as minimum but we just don’t like to be pressured on how much we need to spend.
They would ask for $1,000 pesos minimum if you wanted to use the beds by the beach .
Today we came to eat with our 6 year old daughter, who was excited to swim in the pool.
The hostess told us we couldn’t use the pool if we were just seating at the restaurant , if my daughter wanted to use the pool we needed to pay $500 pesos and of course my husband and I wouldn’t be able to use the pool with her unless we paid $1000 pesos each . The place is empty , they have no people at all , and we don’t understand why they would make it so difficult.
We also had a situation at the rooftop on Sunday , they supposedly close at 10:30 pm.
By 10 pm they turned off the music and started cleaning up and getting ready to leave , making us feel like we were bothering them because we still wanted to order more drinks . And again they were empty . They’re loosing customers by trying to be expensive.
We spent $300 dlls on our first visit to the rooftop .
Second time we spent $180 dlls . When they kicked us out .
We won’t ever come back here .

Atmosphere is beautiful, food was good not great. My husband and I ordered a Hamburger 🍔 and it was raw from the inside. BEWARE!!! Multiple times we ordered food they tried adding numbers to charge us more then was it was. At one point they tried to charge 7,000 pesos when it was only 70! They do SNEAKY THINGS And They enter your room when ur not inside without your permission!! NOT PROFESSIONAL and with this type of behavior NOT WORTH IT.
Great location but if you don't eat meat, you will need to look for another spot. No vegetarian choices for dinner
The absolute best service I have received in all of Mexico! Ricardo, Matt and Marco were absolutely amazing! They upgraded our room to the best suite in the hotel and it was stunning! Great atmosphere, amazing rooftop views, and wonderful food and drinks. We will be back! Thank you.
Me and my daughter wanted a quick stop for some refreshments, so we saw that MVNGATA had good reviews and stopped for some lemonade. First we were told the beach chairs would be $100 USD per person to rent, so we moved to their restaurant. We waited an hour just to get a waiter to come take our order, then we ended up waiting another 20-30 minutes before giving up and leaving. We are very disappointed with this service.
My wife and I like the location the food was excellent even though it didn't come exactly as we ordered, a day pass is 1000 pesos PER PERSON or approximately $112 usd expect the wait staff get you to use it all up.

Fantastic setting, mediocre food, rather overpriced. The view and the ambience are very nice on the rooftop, overlooking the beach, the sea and from atop the palm trees. Certainly 6* here. It is so nice that it almost uplifted the 2* I would have given for food quality, service and value-for-money to a 4*, but not quite.
The gap between the want-to-be and the reality is too big. Google shows this as a $$ restaurant - maybe it once was. We paid US$150 for a dinner for two without alcohol and did not go overboard by having had the catch of the day as the main course.
Half ceviche, half grilled. Solid, but no more than that.
We had a lovely evening, but not because of the food experience.
