The American Legion Post is not just a jazz venue, it's a hidden gem that every visitor to New York City should discover. This is the kind of place that locals keep to themselves, but we should all be sharing it with the world. Some of the musicians who play here are some of the best musicians in the city, and the atmosphere is unbeatable. Walking down an empty street and entering a basement door may not sound like much, but it's like stepping into another world. The vibe is authentic, the people are friendly, and the music is incredible. If you're trying to decide between the Bluenote or other fancy jazz clubs, let me tell you, the American Legion Post is the place to go for a true New York experience.

I miss this place so much due moving out of town but always visit when I'm. in New York. Friendly staff especially Karen and Barbara (RIP Barbara 🙏) food is great music always great

Last of the old school Hammond organ sessions in Harlem after the demise of Showmans. We love the atmosphere, the secluded entry, the regular crowd, the food and the drinks. The staff is always accommodating and the music the best with surprise guest singers and players sitting in most weeks.

Food is 12 dollars a plate/ water is 5 dollars/soda 5 dollars so its made up for the cheap price of food. Yet its a great environment/older crowd the jazz is amazing and the place is mixed race and people come from around the world to enjoy the music. Its small so come early for a table. And they pass a bucket for tips for the band. So bring some singles because the bucket maybe pass three or four times.

I went to a birthday celebration here. We had a great time. Drinks, eats and and live music in a cozy smooth atmosphere. Now that's living good!!

A nice mature crowd. A very small place. Drinks are very reasonable. There was no food for purchase because of a private party. The music fantastic. I would visit again, but I'd make sure to eat before I go. They close early so go early. Enjoy!

Another great hidden place in the city, this basement is undetectable from the street and it keeps jazz alive and serves cheap (very cheap) drinks for the passionate about the way Harlem delivers greatness.
