Beaches here are beautiful. Plenty to do here. Bring a bike or electric unicycle to really discover the entire island. Lots of history.

North Beach is located within Fort Hancock near the north end of the Sandy Hook Unit of Gateway National Recreation Area. There's plenty of parking and this somewhat hidden beach doesn't get as crowded as the surrounding beaches. One of the reasons is probably the long walk from the parking lot through the thick sand to get to the ocean, but it is so worth it. If you have children and a lot to carry, this probably is not the beach for you and there were no lifeguards on duty. There's really not much to do here, but if you want to get away from it all, you would enjoy the peace and quiet. Also, be mindful that there are deer in the area. The seagrass that came through from underneath the boardwalk had a lone star tick on it. The concession stand was not open and there wasn't a single person at the beach concession area. For a beautiful view of the New York City Skyline, head to the top of the North Beach Observation Deck.
This is the northernmost beach you can drive to (and eventually walk to) on Sandy Hook. It is actually quite far from the car park, so be warned of that. The trail has some very thick sand and is quite the challenge, but it is a good work out. Next, you’ve got restrooms and a food place that are open in the summer, as well as a deck with many interpretive signs and views of the City and beyond. Worth a stop for sure. Cheers.
This is a really nice beach but I’ve only been in the winter when all the facilities are closed. It’s also a very long walk from the facilities and parking lot to the actual beach. But you can find some nice shells, for New Jersey. And at least in February and January it’s not crowded… The old bunkers are cool but you can’t go in any of them. Also this is amazing spot for birdwatching
Visited weekday - less crowd compared to other place as you need to drive more . Beach is good . Life guard available. It’s far from parking lot . You need to walk at least 10-15 min from parking lot. Shower and bathroom decent but need to walk at least 10 min to reach beach .

If you’re a local, this area is definitely worth a visit. The beach area is huge and there is so much wide open space. Entry is free if you’re visiting off season. There is also plenty of space to walk, bike and checkout all the military sites. It is a good day trip for a group of guys looking to catch-up.
