Amazing live nude figure drawing session, I've been to many different places like this since I'm a professional artist, this is maybe the best one!

Simon was excellent for our small group of leaders—he brought out the confidence in each one and helped them surprise themselves. The visit to the National Art Club was just the cherry on top, as you feel you are sketching amongst deep NYC history. Thank you Simon!

I travel from the mid Hudson valley as often as possible to attend the Sunday long pose class. I love the space, and the class. When I’m regularly in the city this is my default place to be.

I love this as my new little ritual. Pure academic figure drawing session you remember from art school (no gimmicks or scene-y hijinx - this is not drink n draw or Instagram fodder). Consistently quality professional models, relaxing music, just you and your practice. In a beautiful gramercy park mansion, what’s not to love? Weekdays go up to 20 min poses and weekends are long pose several hours, both great.

I've attended figure drawing sessions at the Art Students League and at Draw New York. DNY is in a much more personal space, where you can work more closely to the model and also where you can get to know the other would-be artists you're drawing with.

The monitors who I know from my meetings, Jeff and Simon, are great about creating a casual, welcoming environment. There's always cool, non-intrusive background music, cookies, and friendly humor setting the tone.

One other point that can't be ignored is that the National Arts Club, where the meeting are held, is an amazingly beautiful turn-of-the-century brownstone Mansion on Gramercy Park with regular art exhibits that leave you feeling immersed in an artistic/esthetic sensibility from the moment you arrive.

I highly recommend the DNY figure drawing meetings for beginners and advanced artists who want an opportunity to draw and to spend time with nice like-minded people.

As always, Simon Levenson ran a warm, friendly drawing session last night. The sessions attract drawers who want an environment that is quietly enjoyable, and focussed enough to enable serious work. There are several inspiring models, one each week, who can hold a variety of poses. The National Arts Club takes Covid restrictions very seriously, so the group is always masked, except for the models. I love this group.

2021:
I love Drawing New York! Moved here and started sketching with them three years ago. I have been so lucky to have been a part of the DNY community both in-person and over zoom during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown. The sessions are welcoming to artists of all levels and professional. Special gratitude for Simon who created Drawing New York for creating this space.
