Column of the Grande Armée

Stopped off at this monument just for a quick peek but unfortunately it was closed at the time (check opening times before visiting but at TOR it was 2 hours in the morning and 2 in the afternoon). Mea culpa....

However, it looks mighty damn impressive and you might get a great view from inside the monument. Also a bit mad to have a monument to the glory of Napoleon and the Grande Armée that was stopped, started, stopped then finished off years after their final defeat. I saw it more as a memorial to the dead really. Also reminds me somewhat ironically of Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square.....

Ist auf jeden Fall ein Besuch wert. Den Turm kann man für 4€ pro Erwachsener besteigen - Kinder sind umsonst. Von oben hat man eine herrliche Rundumsicht. Sehr netter Angestellter, der uns sehr freundlich empfangen hat.

Ein sehr sehenswerter Ort! Die Säule kann für 4€ erklettert werden und von oben hat man einen tollen Ausblick! Allerdings sollte man keine Angst in engen Räumen haben, die Wendeltreppe ist wirklich eng und lang :D

Sehr hilfreich sind außerdem die kostenlosen Info-Flyer, welche es auf vielen verschiedenen Sprachen bei der Kasse gibt.

Sehr interessantes Monument. Trotz meiner Sprachbarriere wurde ich sehr gut informiert

When we arrived in Boulogne-Sur-Mer we had some time to kill.
We noticed this statue from the other side of town.

So we drove around, knowing it was closed (fenced and gated area) and parked nearby.
From what we saw it was an awesome structure, and the grounds were very well kept.
I think that this would be something pretty amazing to go in and experience as I understand it you can go up to a viewing balcony when its open.

Still something awesome to see from outside the gates.

Ein sehr imposantes Denkmal mit einer Napoleon auf der Spitze, ein Parkplatz ist direkt davor. Der Park kann kostenlos Besichtigung werden. Es gibt noch ein kleines Museum und der Turm kann bis zur Aussichtsplattform bestigen werden Eintrittspreise ist angemessen

Parkplatz ist direkt vor der Tür auch mit Wohnmobil. Für Hunde leider verboten. Für 4 Euro kann man auf den Turm. Es sind sehr viele enge Stufen bis hinauf. Der Ausblick ist super. Das kleine Museum ist ganz nett. Alles nur in französisch oder englisch.
