The George

I'm sorry, but I find it absolutely ridiculous that when requesting to watch the F1 at this place. The request was refused due to the fact that the STAFF wanted to watch the football. What kind of service is it where the staff's choice out weights a paying customer? (And I thoroughly checked at tables to see who actually wanted the football on)...

Bar staff and one with a backwards cap as a waiter obviously have preference while working.

Black bugs keep jumping on my legs and food. Now I understand why The George is so quiet compared to how it used to be. Creepy! Need to be completely gutted and rebuilt as Nothing else will kill all these bugs. The George used to be my favourite pub and I would recommend it to everyone. No more Sunday Roast what has happened??

Place has soo much potential.... Very lively environment and prime location. I have to give 2 stars as food was food and attendance was good. HOWEVER, it's a shame on the owner and management for the lack of providing an updated beer menu,at least online cuz I never got one.. and server not knowing about beer, which to me is a no brainier for in a bar/ restaurant that promotes beer is just lack of an active manager AND owner.

My goodness! Their homemade Guinness Beef Pie was phenomenal. I highly recommend it. The prices are so reasonable for drinks here too which is another big bonus! Good vibes, nice service and staff! They also have a lot of regular specials so talk a walk by to see what’s on the board for the day. We will definitely be back again for more soon! Please post some pies to Johannesburg! 😂

If anything this is one place myself & my partner miss the most since we have moved to Gauteng..
What id do to have a Jalapeño Popper from The George right now!
The Jalapeños themselves are from Mexico.. I'll forever be saddened as no where in PTA serves them as good as here.

On a rare break from caring for my parents, I managed to get down to Umhlanga. Having practically been raised there, Umhlanga has a special place in my heart and the Village has grown into a lovely city. I managed to drag my cousin out, who lives in Umhlanga, but rarely goes out. We started our ventures at the George with a couple of beverages. Whilst sitting enjoying them, I decided to look at their specials and I am glad I did. I decided to try the Chicken Schnitzel with chips and I am glad I did. The schnitzel was tender and juicy and hot as were the chips. It came with a beverage which my cousin had. The service was friendly and very good, with more than one waiter/tres, serving us and checking that we were OK or needed something. Makes a world of difference when staff gel as a team and know what they are doing and love doing it! I will certainly be back there soon. Easily our favourite place to grab a bite. The food is incredible, affordable drinks and even better environment. It's always a good time when we visit, and you can't help but make friends with the people around you! 10/10
