We loved the interior, it was a typical French bar style. Staff was friendly.

Rude waiter. Seemed he wanted us out as quickly as possible. Didn’t have any oat milk or orange juice. So many nicer cafes In La Rochelle.

You come here for the decor and the fast service. The food and coffee is very middle of the road... but the interior is stunning!

I enjoyed a delicious lunch here, sitting outside on a sunny afternoon, facing the square. The food and service were excellent.

My français is not great - I’m learning - but the waiter was patient and friendly. We had a discussion about where writer Georges Simenon, a regular guest at the cafe when he’d lived in the area of La Rochelle, had tied up his horse and carriage. The waiter pointed out where the restaurant had installed a ring for this purpose on one of the stone columns facing the street.

I am eating light these days so I ordered a salad and a café au lait. The salad was delicious and the portion large. There were a variety of charcuterie and vegetables chiffonnade, cut in ribbons and layered on top of a bed of mixed lettuces. There were cubes of tangy cheese and the vinaigrette dressing was perfect - neither too much nor too little. The head waiter also came out to say hello and to see if there were anything else I might like. It was a very nice lunch.

Not going to lie, the main reason to go there is the decor - surprising and nicely done.
The portions are quite big, including the salads, and the tuna tartare was great (and the staff was very accommodating with my requests). However, it’s quite hard to justify the prices. Overall had a great time for lunch, probably would be more keen to pay this type of price for dinner.

A wonderful old style interior makes this café a delight to spend some time over a drink or two! The service was friendly and quick. It was easy for a family member in a wheelchair to join us. Add in the Georges Simenon connection and this is a "must visit"! Highly recommended.
