Museum of the 20th Century

Great museum. A lot of nostalgia

Went here with the social deal discount. Not too big, not too small. Fun to make the trip down memory lane. Friendly staff. The discovery tour for kids with the mice is a bit messy. Mice are missing, many objects when found do not have the answer to the question to be found anywhere. Idea is nice though. Hope they will fix it. The Lego exhibition is nice to see. Kids love to build something with Lego and get rewarded with a true Lego buildmaster diploma. Free parking at the Nieuwe Wal is nice. Only a short 15 minute walk from there to the museum or you can take the free shuttle that departs every 20 minutes. Against what their website states, do not call them at the 06 number mentioned on their website to inquire for the shuttle as that will lead to a guy getting cranky at you for calling him. The shuttle will keep going back and forth. No need to call. Worth visiting!

Definitely worth a visit on a rainy day, the Lego exhibition was great for visitors of all ages. Some displays of old toys/books lacking commentary, including on some racist depictions of minorities which was very disappointing.

Great atmosphere of the past years of youth. A very large number of exhibits. Large LEGO exhibition with interesting sets from different years. Nice and helpful staff communicating in English.

Really nice!

What a treat to go back in time and look at life during different periods in the 20th century. The museum has a wide variety of displays of homes, classrooms and stores from different eras. Everything is kept in perfect condition and displayed in a beautiful manner.

They accept the museum kaart so if you have one, there’s really no excuse not to go.

Small but cute museum focused on showcasing the everyday life of people in the 20th century. I was worried that it would show a lot about wars, but this topic was not shown in much detail, and a lot more attention was given to the toys, cutlery and baby items. The section with old TVs, phones and audio equipment is especially fun for older kids.

Captions are in Dutch only, but there is a free audio guide in English (tbc).
Kids also get a little "find this object" quest.

There are several interactive stations, and even a couple of working arcade games!

Suitable for kids from about 4-5 years of age. You can see the entire museum in about 2 hours.

A must see if you are in Hoorn, this is going back in time and finding stuff that is familiar from your youth! Bring time to explore this fabulous museum!

Nice museum that will bring you back to memory lane. Kids will love it also. It will take around 2 hours to visit. There is a small cafe inside and many restaurants in the area. The parking is a bit far (approx 10min walk) but they also have free shuttles.
