We were lucky that this was recommended to us. The Lost Cause (dating back to1860's) exhibit was unique, an eye opener and very timely! Do not miss it!! The Richmond memorabilia is wonderful. Be sure to take advantage of a guided tour.

An interesting look into the local culture and history of the area. The museum does not shy away from its sordid transgressions and offers the community a platform to voice their opinions surrounding ongoing issues in their history. What is most fascinating is the complex and often nuanced views of the residents.

Called with a question, the lady that answered was not helpful and sounded like she wanted me off the phone the moment she picked up. I don't understand why basic customer service is such a pain for people these days. The entire phone call lasted maybe 3 min. and she said "I don't know, I can't help you, you will have to come in and find out." I live in a different state... she even informed me that there's no email and she doesn't know any extensions to get me to the department I needed. What am I suppose to do now? I'm not driving to another state just to ask a question that can be answered in 2 min or less!!!
Some people have an attitude that can be fixed by bathroom duty! Give her janitor duties for a month and after cleaning toilets she'd be happy to answer a phone!

Very nice station! It’s got a lot of history behind it and still has that old look to it inside.

We did a private tour with a group where we were searching for paranormal activity and got to visit all 3 floors. It was well worth the visit. I’m looking forward to going back.

Neat museum contextualizing Richmond's past and present. Did a great job showing that history isn't just something that happened a while ago, it's happening right now.

I had the best time this past weekend photographing one of my gorgeous couples at the property. WOW! Inside and out is stunning. I loved that it wasn’t crowded and the guests and vendors had ample space to move about. The options for the space to be broken up was fabulous! Endless photo possibilities! Tanya with starry night events is phenomenal, there was nothing short of perfection in any inch of the day. Can’t wait to photograph more weddings here at the space.

This museum offers lectures, exhibits, etc, but my favorite aspect is the Virginia Journey's Member Travel Program. My aunt gifted me a membership in 2021, and I find it a great way to travel to destinations that I might not think of going to on my own. The trips are very informative. My first trip was the Biltmore in Asheville, NC, and it was great! With knowledgeable, courteous, and organized coordinators such as Cathy Boe and Elizabeth Darling, you'll be glad you joined!

This place is 5 stars all the way! They do an excellent job interpreting the states history. Everything was laid out really well. They also have a cafe and a gift shop.
Down to the logistics. I have severely limited mobility and depend on an electric scooter to get around. This place was extremely accessible. There are bathrooms on the first and second floor. My only complaint is that there is a walk in family/handicap bathroom on the first floor only. There are standard men and women’s bathroom on the second floor.
There are benches all throughout the museum. All of the displays are easy to see and read. The staff are scattered around and are very helpful.
The cafe had a limited menu but what we had was good. I got a premade ham and Swiss sandwich which was really good. We also got ice cream sandwiches which were really good.
Overall we spent over 3 hours there and honestly rushed through and skimmed the last room. We could’ve easily spent 4 hours visiting. There is an elevator to help those with limited mobility navigate the museum.
We came to this area from south Jersey just to see this museum and it was well worth it. I really enjoyed it.

I toured the John Marshall here in Richmond. The tour guide was a young history student. She has a good understang of justice Marshall and the house and family. The house is from the 1700s and is made of brick.

We went to the NASA Exhibit and really enjoyed it! Highly recommended.

This is an excellent history museum. It’s well designed with a variety of subjects, from Pre-history to recent events. It doesn’t shy away from showing both the good and bad history of Virginia. The displays are extremely well set up with a good balance of objects and text. I applaud the curators for putting together an excellent collection.

Enjoyed the historic train station and the historical events on the grounds. Also, there is plenty of parking.

Loved It!! We got there kinda late in the day, I think it was right before they closed, so we ( my bf & I) were the only ones there. He's from this area & he's much older than I am so he enjoyed talking about some of the history he remembers being around for and I enjoyed listening & learning alot about the history of Richmond, Va and even more so about the history of him.

Historic station. Old and modern. Impressed how clean and bright the station looks.

Visited the Valentine Museum with my son today.
Conveniently located close to VCU and within walking distance of pay for street parking and pay parking structure.
Many interesting artifacts and photos of Richmond.
The Wickham-Valentine home is classic and exquisite. Restored to nearly perfect condition reminiscent of the time. Our docent was extremely knowledgeable about the neoclassical decorations that adorned the home.
Highly recommend headed over to Wickham-Valentine home and Valentine Museum for a day of fun and learning. Truly a hidden gem within the hustle and bustle of Richmond.

Great exhibits, beautiful space, friendly staff, historically balanced. We should have come years ago but look forward to returning.

Cost was $10, and allows re-entry if you leave for lunch.
All was well except finding the path there if you come from the direction of Virginia museum of fine arts. But that was just me. A bit dark lighting but other than that it was a great experience. Plus the audios in the space section played over each other so you could barely hear either properly.

What a mess of confusion. No boards or TVs with a stream of information about when trains arrive and on what platforms. Instead they have a person randomly yell the information. Most people couldn’t hear what they were saying and kept asking her to clarify what was happening.

One of my favorite history museums! Love the wealth of information they present in such carefully crafted, aesthetically pleasing displays.

We really enjoyed our tour. Haley was amazing. I learned a lot and was very fascinated learning about John Marshall.

Got a great tour at the Marshall House. I learned quite a bit about this interesting man and how he lived. If you love history, you'll enjoy this house.

We attended a Grown Up Scavenger Hunt event and it was glorious. I look forward to returning with our kiddos. There was a vintage print making activity. We toured the Wickham House just before dusk. And, then, we got to pace ourselves and do a Scavenger Hunt in the Valentine Museum. If you live, work, and/or visit here, and want to understand more about the extensive history of the Richmond Metropolitan Region, come here! Explore here!

Very professional and easy to navigate. The role of the river in the history of Richmond was interesting and human conflict that brought us to today. The Wickham House tour was informative and the house and the people who lived and we're enslaved there were given life.
I really was moved by the desecrated statue of Jefferson Davis that came down in 2020. The museum asked for visitor perspectives on how it should be presented.
The museum is undergoing an expansion that will further expand their storytelling.

Awesome museum! Very clean and well thought out. I love the history video they play. The projector/theater is amazing. So many things to look at and love learning about history.

Grand architecture and historic significance but not necessarily a must see gem.
If you are near the area (downtown Richmond) I'd recommend a stop. There is no admission and there are self guided educational displays throughout the first floor, plus restroom facilities. It's a nice relaxing stroll in a climate controlled building a nice escape from the summer heat.
Not much happening on the second floor other than historic pictures lining the walls.

Pride flags out front!!! We came near closing time but we’re still able to get a little of the experience. The architecture of this station is stunning, the staff is helpful, and the building gorgeous! Main Street Station is definitely worth a visit.

This unpretentious looking house serves up a fabulous tour. The tour guides know an incredible about about John Marshall and his time here from the 1780's until his death. At least half of the objects in the home are original to the family and the house. It is amazing to be so up close to the very items that this famous family lived in day and night. I would heartily recommend this tour if you have any history in our country, the constitution or the Supreme Court. Marshall's rulings changed the way the Supreme Court worked and established it as an equal third branch of the government.

Very nice historical home right in the heart of downtown Richmond. The house contains many detailed and informative pieces about John Marshall, his life and career, as well information about the periods in which he lived and was chief justice of the Supreme Court. There is a nice garden in the rear to sit and enjoy the grounds. It's directly across the street from city hall.

This Museum was a great experience. There was a good gift shop inside with a good selection. There was over 100,000 items out on exhibit here. They are constantly updating the exhibits. The staff is extremely friendly and has a great deal of knowledge that they share with you if you have any questions. They exhibits are presented in a very elegant way. This Museum encompasses three buildings on this street.

The John Marshall house is structurally the same house from when it was originally built in the 1700’s. The History Guides here at this house have a plethora of knowledge that they share with each tour. The History Guides will ensure that all your questions are answered with the correct questions. If you are in the Richmond area I recommend that you stop by this House to learn more information about John Marshall and all the things that he did for the United States.

Guide, James, was friendly and well informed. Learned a lot of interesting facts. A good portion of furniture is original to the house. Very good gift shop.
