This is unlike most other museums. This facility was essentially the last steam-powered water facility. When it was shut down, everything was simply left behind. We now have a snapshot into history. And what a history! It's free and you'll probably spend about a half hour here. There is also a small train museum next door, which takes about 5-10 minutes but is certainly worth seeing.
It's really small but it's free and just a block away from the visitor's center anyway. It's housed in an historic bank building and you can see it all in about 5 minutes. Friendly folks here.
Very nice experience. These are sizable museums. I spent 3.5 hours here, but I also tend to read all of the information. I would think folks should plan on about 2 hours minimum, unless you just plan to blow through the displays. The Civil Rights museum takes about twice as long to see as the History Museum. I really appreciated the Civil Rights Museum in that it presented the history very fairly. It showed the terrible abuse, but also the struggles, the victories and the heroes. I saw the Legacy Museum in Montgomery, AL, which only focused on the victimhood and nothing more. It was a really lopsided presentation, but this one is much more balanced. They also have several side rooms where you can see the more graphic side of the struggle if you can take it (and feel it is age appropriate for families). Bravo. Well done. For the price, you really get to see a lot. Highly recommended.
I really enjoyed this museum. Price is very reasonable. There are displays inside and outside. I spent about 2 hours here, but I really like to read every little bit of information. I would say minimum of 1 hour for planning.
Very small museum, but nice displays. They have a couple of booths where you can play tunes from the inductees. I read every bit of information and listened to five songs and spent about 30 minutes. $10 might be a bit too high for such a small museum, but otherwise it is a great place to honor blues musicians.
