THIS IS THEE WORST SAFEWAY EVER!!! CLOSE IT DOWN..HOW IS IT THAT ONE REGISTER OPEN AND THEN SHE LEAVES CUSTOMERS IN LINE WHILE SHE GOES AND HELP ANOTHER CUSTOMER AND TGEN ITS A PERSON STANDING HELPING IN SELF CHECKOUT BUT ITS NO CUSTOMERS. SO, WE JUST WAITING TO BE HELPED…NOT TO MENTION THE STORE STINKS. WE
NEED A DECENT GROCERY STORE IN DC.
I went to buy these asparagus at Safway. And they came out bad as you can see. The store should check the product before putting it in. If it is in good condition. I recommend that people check their products carefully because sometimes it is not visible due to the type of plastic.

I actually like this location a lot. For one, I feel very safe here because the police are always handling the problems around the vicinity (at least every time I come here) I also feel that since the store is a bit 'haggard' and worn down, things don't appear to be a tempting nice 'shiney apple' so shallow shoppers won't feel the need to steal. I mostly eat meat, but I do appreciate how there's always plenty of produce available, idk if the shoppers are being more considerate by leaving the produce for our vegetarian and vegan friends or what. And finally, one last thing Id like to mention is how is that a lot of women in this store, at least in my experience, wear shower caps while they go shopping. This always brings a smile to my face because these shower caps speak to their creative personalities. Be it silk, florescent, or a chameleon's pallet of color, it's just so good to see people wearing these. I myself am bald as well, but I don't have the courage or self confidence to wear a shower cap just yet though. Anyway, thank you for staying open Safeway, I'm sure its not easy, but us in Anacostia appreciate you!

I go to this Safeway a lot and normally customer service is great. Except for some of the cashiers who have an attitude when you’re coming to their line. Most are really rude or lazy. I was checking out on 10/01/24 with only 14 items. I had the cashier Chidat who did not open his mouth at all. He just had a whole conversation with the guy before me. I was doing the greeting and thanking him the entire transaction. He even laid my receipt on the counter for me to pick up. I mean this man did not say a word. As I was leaving I heard him greet the lady behind me with gladness. When I return to this location I avoid his line. I was a manager for 15 years in retail and I was always taught to leave your attitude at the door. Why apply for a customer service job and can’t provide that to customers?!!

Come here everyday before picking up my children from school. Every time I have an issue somehow almi not sure how it’s spelled or pronounced seems to help me. Everytime he is rude nasty doesn’t listen or maybe a language barrier not sure and always is wrong never seen where a manager doesn’t know how to talk to customers he answers the phone and gives wrong information and is rude when you try to tell him transfers to wrong departments when you call. I don’t work here and I shouldn’t be telling the manager how things work clearly he is playing dumb or is being racist on purpose. Asked for the store manager got him. Hopefully someone will reach out to me about these issues
Arrived at the deli...placed order.
Customer service was good
The chicken was super dry.
Appears like it's been under the light for some time. Recommend having some some type of barbecue sauce. Keep the meat fresh and tender.
Amish potato salad was good.
The potatoes with cheese were good.

The absolute worst grocery store I’ve ever been in. The neighborhood is horrible and I heard several gunshots around here. This store is filthy, I found several items that were out of date, and there were no price tags in several aisles. If you do plan to shop here. Please beware and double check the dates. This store clearly does not rotate their products. The customer service in this store is almost non existent.

Visited this location this evening and had an unpleasant experience with Regina. The total price seemed too much for the items (14 items for $152). When questioned Regina proceeded to humiliate me in front of another customer and laugh. She called (“the manager”) and again both laughed and humiliated me telling me that what I had purchased was expensive. I visited the customer service counter and was blessed to encounter Melissa who took the time to look over the receipt and the items purchased. She discovered that Regina had ran 66 corn (59 more). We all make mistakes however Regina was rude, dismissive, and humiliating. It’s unfortunate to encounter individuals like Regina. I hope she is retrained to listen to customer concerns.

The worst Safeway I've been to. The sliding door to leave has been broken since I've started going here (a month) so everyone comes in and out the entrance causing actual traffic. They must restock drinks once a week because everytime I try to get an Arnold Palmer or something the entire shelf is either empty or warm. Do better

In 2024, when customer service is important, I have NEVER seen a Safeway, so HORRIBLE. The fresh product is NOT fresh. No fresh broccoli, green beans, or scallions. Half of the shelves are empty. The aisles were dirty. No cost-effective spices. Where is Management when you need them. Safeway corporation needs to make a visit, or do they even care that this Safeway is ruined. Not a good look, Safeway, at all!

Usually this location has decent service. although recently there has been a older lady with glasses on management who is quite rude, and would rather tell you an item isn’t sold in store then to help you find it.

The staff themselves here are great. But management is nothing but disrespectful towards costumers

Not a fun experience. Easy spot to grab paper towels or basics in the city but if you are looking for food, I recommend walking the block or two to Streets or YES market. This location is always crazy and the lines are always long. I tend to avoid this location if I can.

This is disgusting... bought 2 pints of ricotta cheese yesterday and both of them had mold...this photo is the worse of the two... they either marked the expiration date wrong or the refrigerator does not work.

This particular location is pretty much an easy shop and the produce and pricing is normally on point. The white onions today weren’t truly something that would normally be displayed. The staff is
Friendly and knowledgeable. I rang all my items at the self-serve and bagged it with my environmentally friendly bags and realized that I had left my wallet on my bar. The supervisor at Self-serve saved the transaction and protected my groceries and my bags. Mahalo

I was at this Safeway a little after 8pm. The cashiers are very nice and helpful and friendly every time I am here but tonight I went to the deli area to buy some salads and as I approached the female working there was on the phone and turned her back to me. I waited a while then she started running the water in the sink. I just wanted to know if she was still open so I could wait. I said excuse me about five times and she completely ignored me and kept talking on her phone. Then I finally yelled “excuse me” and she flipped out and said why did I yell. I told her I tried to get her attention many times before I yelled! She said she was closed which was what I wanted to know. I took a coupon from the counter and threw the coupon book back on the counter but it slid off the counter and went into her area. She got violently angry and ran over to the cashiers angrily complaining about me. I went to pay for my purchases and she was threatening me and I told her to call the police. The cashiers were witnesses to all this. She finally went away and I was able to pay for my items. It was a bit scary being chased in the store by an employee. I think she is incredibly rude and ignores the customers and has a horrible attitude and anger problem. As I said earlier the rest of the employees there were very nice and I have only had good experiences at this store until tonight.

At this store, the vibe is cold, much like the meat that's not properly sold. Rude staff meet you at the door, while spoiled goods are a common lore. The produce, though, it's somewhat fine, but from the floor, it often dines. So, wash it well, if in your cart it lands. In a pinch, it's okay, but not the best of plans. If you seek a better feast, Harris Teeter's down the road at least. A brighter choice with less despair, for quality food handled with care.

If I could rate this store below a one star I would. The manager was disgustingly rude, I asked her were there any available bathrooms because the 1 stall that is available for the whole store was DISGUSTING!! Poop everywhere, urine everywhere, no napkins. Feces were on the toilet paper. My question is, if there are no bathrooms available, how are the employees washing their hands properly?? I cannot believe a manager was so rude at a Safeway, especially at this location. I’m so disappointed and taken aback by the lack of customer service. Thursday February 1st was the evening that I crossed the person that makes me feel comfortable shopping here. Such a shame.

This part is an edit: because I’m thinking of calling corporate. I’m really beyond offended by being treated so nastily, especially when I was kind and obviously in distress. And to be treated so nasty and greeted with energy like that makes me wonder how someone like this got promoted to run a store with such intimidating and hurtful behavior.

There are some nice human touches to this place, like when the manager sings happy birthday to some random soul, but as a supermarket it falls far short of the mark. Poor inventory, disorganized, often lacking in essential items (no tangerines and few baked breads today) are too often the norm. And for at least six months, the exit door didn't work. This place needs to up its game.

I was shopping at this Safeway today around 1:30pm EST. I went to self checkout with a few groceries and gift cards to buy--gift cards that were in a display that was attached to the self checkout area. I had come to the store specifically to buy gift cards for teachers. After scanning my groceries, I tried to scan the gift cards, but a screen popped up saying I'd need help. A male customer service associate came over immediately and said he'd get someone to help me because he didn't have the ability to help me with the gift cards. He was really kind and courteous, and quick and I heard him immediately ask the female customer service representative for help. Several minutes later, the female customer service representative came over. I told her I needed to buy gift cards and she told me those could only be purchased at customer service and I would have to wait 15 minutes if I wanted to do that because she wasn't at the customer service desk. I told her that I couldn't wait 15 minutes because my toddler was with me (I had already been holding up the kiosk for more than 5 minutes). She looked at me blankly, didn't say please or thank you, or apologize, and walked away. I decided I wouldn't buy the gift cards, so I tried to pay for my groceries, but the screen was still on the "wait for associate" setting. I motioned her to come back. I said a single sentence to her, other than asking her to clear the screen: I said "I don't know why these cards are being advertised as a part of self-checkout if I can't buy them here." At that point, she shouted at me, in front of my toddler and multiple customers, and sharply said, "M'am, I told you you'd have to wait 15 minutes." And then stormed off. She embarrassed me in front of my child and in front of other customers. I left without buying the gift cards and will take my gift card business elsewhere.

I understand and appreciate that customer service is a difficult job, and I have had good experiences at the Safeway I normally go to, which was not this one. However, I do not understand why someone is working in customer service if she can't say please, sorry or thank you, and most importantly, if she can't engage with customers in a respectful manner. She cut me off, yelled at me, showed no awareness of (or care for) how she was acting in front of a child. Even if there was no way for her to help me for 15 minutes, the interaction would have been completely different had she been nice. And I might have tried to wait with my toddler if I felt like I wasn't going to continue to be treated disrespectfully. I encourage you to train your associates--this one in particular--to behave in a respectful way. And perhaps don't put gift cards in the self checkout aisle if people can't buy them there....

This is a very friendly safeway, the cashier greeted me as I walked in. It was very clean and had everything we need, I picked up some pasta and broccoli, and the self-checkout area is large, and we were out the door quickly.

This Safeway is generally standard in its quality, but Roman, the staff member, provides above-and-beyond customer service every time I see him. He goes out of his way to make me feel welcome and celebrated. He is extraordinarily kind, helpful, and excellent at his job!

Went to safe way at 21:02 and went to self checkout to purchase red hot pepper and it said it needed an attendant and waited and waited and there was no body there was a lady and a gentleman standing by the customer care counter that worked there one was ready to leave and the lady was talking to him saw I needed assistance and just looked and didn’t call anyone or nothing all she did was look like like I was an idiot and continued having their conversation.
Another customer approached then for help and they just looked at him and carried on talking this is the worst Safeway ever.

The review is responding to a woman cashier. I bought a lot of stuff, but she didn’t offer any help at all. I said I had coupon but I don’t know how to use it and she didn’t say anything. At last the system did not go through my coupon at all. She did ask me if I need any bag (as process required I guess). I said no because I brought my own backpack and a large grocery bag. And I loaded all the stuff by myself. Finally I found out I still need a bag so I took one Safeway bag. At the moment I stepped out the Safeway, she called me and said next time I need to pay 5 cents for that bag. She is not helpful at all and gives you a strong vibe of obliviousness 😅

Safeway as a grocery store is fine and good quality. However, this particular branch is one of the worst Safeway stores I have shopped at. Customer service is very bad, it's always an ordeal to get any type of service or help. Also, shelves are not stocked frequently, especially on personal care items. I shop here from time to time because it is close, but I would not recommend it.

It’s bizarre to have deodorant behind locked cases but not beer and wine. Beyond that, it’s a typical small neighborhood grocery store with the basics and a hot meal bar. There are other grocery options in the area but this gets the job done for small needs.

I would not recommend this Safeway to anyone. The quality of the food is fine, but the customer service and pick-up/delivery grocery service is horrendous. I have shopped there for a few months now but have finally decided to go to another grocery that's way less convenient for me to travel to. The employees don't come out with groceries when you notify them in the app that you've arrived for pick up, they never pick up the phone, and they're extremely rude and unhelpful once you go into the store. Yesterday, I ordered for pick-up and I was missing bananas, avocados, a yellow pepper, a red pepper, two bags of Harvest Snaps, and two limes. When I flagged that some items were missing, they claimed it was due to them being out of stock (even though they still charged me) and I walked around the store and found all the items they claimed were out of stock. Just an all around awful experience and not worth the frustration.

I ordered a few items to pick up from your store to come to my house. The items never came. I called your store and the girl was nice but I have no resolution. It shows that my items are being delivered but it’s frozen so you know I have no nothing to do at this time.

The location is great which often makes me wonder why there is a big issue with their stocking issues. It seems they are often out of laundry detergent and other daily household items. The service could also be better, some employees, more so the employees assigned to the self check out, are less than enthusiastic to help a customer when required for what ever reason. I have to say, almost forgot but have to mention the flower selection at this location is phenomenal. The ladies who work in the flower department are sweet always willing to help with giving advice on flower combinations. Overall the Safeway is good but their stocking issues are the biggest problems being in a prime area with heavy traffic.

Bad customer service one employee asked me to pull the fire alarm so that she can get off early. They also only have two lines open every night . so the lines have up to about 15 people at each one, wish I would’ve got a better picture, but I couldn’t. The produce section is not kept up well. Flies and gnats are lying around on the onions and they look like they’re going bad. I thought that I was tripping when I brought some asparagus and the same day they got really soft as though they were no good but looking at these onions. I’m now thinking that it’s them not keep up w their produce. Also. They need some help. Every day the lines are long and they also almost never have certain meats like T-bone steaks. Or lamb chops. It honestly needs to be under new management. this is unacceptable.

Had everything needed for groceries. Slightly bummed by the prices and annoyed by the lack of transparency for regular, non member folks as all the price tags are for members and you have to dig in to find how much it costs for non- members.
The cashier was helpful but the lines were very long. Overall would recommend!

They have fresh flowers at the front of the store which is awesome.

This is a very nice clean store. Lots of choices except for small orange juice bottles. They only had Calcium added kind. But they had lovely fresh fruit in containers that were easily carried away. Great produce. Signs telling you where items were easy to read and see. Checkers were very friendly and professional. I recommend this store!

I want to like this Safeway since it’s so convenient and in my neighborhood but I am consistently disappointed with my experience. The inventory is consistently low, with many of the products I am looking for out of stock. The shelves are disorganized and many of the items were expired or near expiry. The store is also quite dirty, with spills and debris on the floor and dust on the shelves. Many items, such as all Tide products are locked up front and require a manager key. I waited about a half hour to get laundry detergent. Overall, I would not recommend this Safeway location to anyone looking for a clean and well-stocked grocery store.
Love working with Lounge Lizard. Very reliable, professional, has lots of ideas and hard working. We started LinkedIn Blog with Lounge Lizard and in only 1 day, it aquired over 5000 registers. Amasing!

The City Vista Safeway or the 5th & L st NW Safeway... (There used to be a tradition of nicknaming Safeways in DC with an "S". (For example, "Soviet Safeway" or "Social Safeway") Not sure what this one would be. It's pretty nice but mobbed by apartment dwellers after work. There is a parking garage which is free for the first 90 minutes with a purchase. The entrance to that is on M street. Plus, there's a Amazon package Locker here ("SABA"). I consider the prices here to be above average but this is also the only grocery in the downtown core so you're stuck! Good luck!

Seriously gross!! I went to pick up some groceries on Mother’s Day and when shopping I noticed they had a few things the expired in April on the shelves still. So I skipped over those items I end up purchasing these meatballs only to open them up in to see how moldy they were. I try to prepare them only an hour after purchase but clearly cannot serve this for Mother’s Day dinner. I return them and get my money back but the staff do not seem to be concerned about the molding meatballs and did not go and check the other meatballs.
Second time we were here and it was awesome.

Interesting, in city, miniature, Safeway. The employees are friendly, the self checkout is clean and quick, the store is amazingly well laid out. Even though less than half the size of the usual store I found all I needed, fast.
The Lounge Lizard team is very professional , easy to work with, and responsive. I would highly recommend them to any one considering them for their marketing needs - no matter project size.

This is the worst Safeway I have ever been to. You do not want to complain about anything as your concerns will be dismissed and you will be accosted by the management and employees. After waiting for one to appear, I asked the deli worker if they had imported Swiss cheese - the worker had to bring in a co-worker to translate my question. I never got an answer to my question. When I asked for thin slices separated by paper, I was handed a mess of paper with completely inconsistently cut slices which were thick at one end shaved off into paper thin at the other end. And that was after I physically demonstrated how I would like them stacked. The worker then proceeded to have a conversation in another language with Jorge about something obviously funny to them both. When another apparent deli worker came to the counter he expressed his indignation that I should be dissatisfied and proceeded to instruct me how to express my dissatisfaction. He then summoned a so-called manager who instructed the deli workers not to service me further and then called the police on me. At no time did I raise my voice, gesticulate in inordinate fashion, swear or grimace. This so-called manager pulled the nuclear option for making a perfectly legitimate complaint. A call to their corporate office resulted in being hung up on, the 1st time and I await a call back from them based on a 2nd call, moments later.
I urge anyone reading this to complain vociferously to the management at this location in order to teach them to accept complaints like customer service professionals. The so-called manager in question should NOT be allowed to interact with customers - no one else should have to deal with an experience like that. The deli worker should be able to speak fluent English and co-workers should be taught to mind their own business, not take sides and not to eyeball customers in a menacing way. After leaving the store, one employee came out to stand with an associate from the liquor store across the street and talked about how he would don sunglasses and use a machete to "take care" of the incident. Wonderful hiring practices, Safeway - you really nailed it at this location - NOT!
I’ve had the pleasure of completing 2 large scale web design / brand strategy projects with LL’s DC office; one for a national brand and the other for an international brand. And the kudos for both projects goes to our project manager, Jayme Birgy.

As Director of Operations for the DC office, Jayme is detail-oriented, a great communicator, has a keen eye for design/layout, and is very organized; all the things a client could hope for in a project spearhead. Interpersonally, Jayme is down to earth, flexible, and can effectively relationship build all the way up to the C-Level decision maker. He sets realistic expectations, communicates actual timeframes, and delivers on promises.

I would choose to work with LL’s DC office on future web design projects without hesitation and look forward to recommending them to colleagues, whenever possible. Whereas many agencies leave you with the feeling of “us” versus “them”, working with Jayme feels like we work on the same team. His success is my success and vice versa — and that is REALLY refreshing.

Note: My corporate office is not local to the DC area; so even if you are outside of DC, don’t hesitate to contact Jayme to discuss your project. Even remote projects are a success!
