Food is above par, environment is good, the service is also adequate except the dude at the reception being a bit indifferent.

Always better to be seated closer to the chef. 🙂 Not only the food, they have also legendary sorbet 👍

A decent quality robatayaki restaurant with very well priced set menus. A good place for a reasonably priced robatayaki style meal. The service is prompt, if not a bit rushed at times.

A nice Japanese restaurant at Whampoa. The sashimi is fresh and thick, the wagyu and the cod we ordered we brilliantly made. The dishes including the salad, the corn, the pork stick, the steamed egg and the rice are at par, not too outstanding though. The final one, the dessert, coconut ice cream is very delicious. Service is good and the price is reasonable. Overall a nice dining experience.

The food was great. Highly recommend. Lots of options, and the quality was very noteworthy: will not disappoint anyone looking for scrumpdidillyicious meat. The menu could be worked on, as the descriptions for the meals were quite misleading. We paid 450 per person instead of 200, which was what we thought we were going to pay, so that might not be very popular with future customers as well. The service was somewhat mediocre, though they still took care of our table well. Overall, great place for yakiniku, but make sure you look at the menu closely first.

enjoyable atmosphere and nice service
High quality seafood, met my expectations but it could have been better than that
Coconut ice cream as the dessert, it’s quite delicious

4.5Star for Seafood!
We had Sumo Lunch Buffet. We think it is about Beef and Lamb, but turn out Cod fish and roe fish is excellent. Abalone also best quality. Sashimi is good quality. And all the vegetable are Superb. Carefully cut and trim then cook on chacoal grill.
How many times can we had these Grilled vegtable top quality on chacoal grill.
Asparagus grilled was soooooooo good sweet from inside.
But Beef and Lamb in the Buffet is a bit below average quality. But I saw they had a la carte menu that the price of one beef order is higher than the buffet.
Scallop also not the best.
For King Prawn : not fresh at all. Prawn quality need to improve.
So if you come to Sumo Buffet Fish and vegetable are Excellent.
Anyway you will enjoy and have a great time here.
(A la carte price is quite expensive. So I think will be different from this review.)

If you are a meat lover, then Yakiniku Kakura is a place that you should definitely check out. This restaurant is famous for its delicious beef and the stove fire power that cooks the meat to perfection.
Not only is the food amazing, but the service is also above average, with responsive waiters who make your experience all the more enjoyable.
One of the must-try dishes at Yakiniku Kakura is their Wagyu platter, which is simply awesome. The beef is tender and juicy, with a melt-in-your-mouth texture that will leave you wanting more. The platter is served with a variety of sauces, each complementing the beef in its own unique way.
While the Wagyu platter is definitely the star of the show, there are other dishes that are worth trying as well. However, it's important to note that not all dishes are created equal, and some may not be as impressive as others. For example, the beef intestine and oyster, while not terrible, are not as amazing as the Wagyu platter.
Overall, Yakiniku Kakura is a great place to satisfy your meat cravings. The beef is top-notch, and the stove fire power ensures that it is cooked to perfection. The service is also commendable, with responsive waiters who make you feel welcome and taken care of. While not all dishes are created equal, the Wagyu platter alone is worth a visit.
So, if you're looking for a delicious meaty meal, Yakiniku Kakura is definitely worth checking out.

Fresh meats for Japanese BBQ, attentive service👍🏻

Very great restaurant and very great food! Nice service!

This place has great meat but the promotion that was posted was a scam. 398 for a meal for 2 but in order to get that meal you have to place 2 orders of it. And I didn't know that until they billed me. My bill ended up coming up to be a bit over 850 because of the 10% fee they take as gratuity also. Better to try another spot

The meats good but the pricing is all messed up. The waiters and waitress only know a handful of English buy for their special they force you to pay double prices for some things and won't reimburse or cancel any of the transactions even though you manually place things on the phone. That being said they went into the computer and doubled up on my bill.

Great lunch set deals! High quality large portions! Free plate of Chicken with Whampoa Card membership!

Arranged a birthday lunch for my wife and decided to celebrate it in this Japanese fine dinning restaurant. We were arranged to sit at the corner of one of their U shape tables with chef in the centre.
After the food was served, we saw a tiny cockroach, in about 2cm size, walk up on to the table. The waiter was not surprised at all and the chef quickly killed the cockroach into ash… I was impressed that the waiters were not surprised at all.
We were relocated to another table and the dishes where the cockroach may have walked by were served with new one. The waiter didn’t offer to replace with whole set.
We were surprised that the manager of the restaurant was not being notified and we didn’t intend to leave immediately at that time (but we should), and just tried to finish our lunch quickly and paid. No remedies or sorry were given by the restaurant. The birthday lunch was completely spoiled in any case…
The only thing I can say was, having a tiny cockroach means the restaurant is “clean” and normal in the dining area, cause you may even find rats or bigger cockroaches if the restaurant is very dirty in Whampoa.

Good at maintaining the food and service standard over the years, now with a renewed drinks list for a brand new taste and look.

Located at an office Building in Whampoa Gardens, Hunghom, Kowloon. The atmosphere is somewhat like dinning at a restaurant in Tokyo, Japan. The food is freshly prepared and put on an electrical open spaced thermal fire stove for cooking. The dishes are all tasty and perfect to go with some sake wine. The restaurant is good for friends or family gathering and the environment is cozy and carefree. Customers chatting with each others in a relaxed and casual atmosphere.

Pretty good & attentive service, expectedly & decently good food and reasonably priced. This is the Gyu-Kaku that I knew. Unlike the total disaster at Festival Walk that failed in every possible way, this branch in Whampoa was typically good that I can comfortably recommend if you want to taste a bite of Japanese BBQ.

Reasonable price for all you can eat.
Very crowed every day at dinner time, better go and get the seats a bit earlier.

This was our first time to a restaurant of this nature and we absolutely loved it. The food was decidedly delicious and equally fresh / healthy. Great service and a lovely unique ambience make Robatayaki a real triple threat! The lamb cutlets, asparagus and salmon sushi are a must. You may well have to share a table with other guests but this is all part of the experience. Top notch and totally worth the money, we will certainly be back!

Their seaweed rice is my kids' favorite. Food is yummy but as other said most of them are salty. But it's not easy as you think to find a good dinning place in Whampoa so this is still a best place.

One of my favourite BBQ restaurants in HK

Nice atmosphere in the restaurant - and pleasant staff that come and attend to your needs when you call them. Quality of food is good but I found the sauces and the marinated meats very salty. It was quick to get in (for us), popping in around 6 / 6:30 to beat the rush. I liked the sweet potato and butter mushrooms.
