Really nice sculpture made by Andrew Brown in 2018 to mark International Woman’s Day and commemorate the local Scotttish political Activist Mary Barbour. Really nicely placed and classically designed piece of art.
Lord Roberts Monument is a located in Glasgow's Kelvingrove Park and dedicated to Field Marshal Lord Roberts. imposing statue of Carlyle as you cross the Kelvin
A fantastic and evocative equestrian statue, located at an excellent viewpoint. Lord Roberts was a military hero of his time and was awarded the freedom of the City of Glasgow. The UK has rightly moved on from colonialism, but we should always seek to remember and learn from our past: not sanitise it according to modern standards.
Very popular location in the park, it has a great view, many locals come around to enjoy the sunset or for New Year celebrations.
Nice thing to see but needs some cleaning due to graffiti.
Not sure if this is in good taste at a time like now, symbolises our colonial past and lately our dark history of enslavement and disregard for foreign culture. However it's a good reminder of how to not portray ourselves.
Great view of the Glasgow Uni, the art gallery and the South Side of the city beyond. Could do with a little coffee stall and some tables and chairs.
This monument stands in tribute to Thomas Carlye, the Dumfriesshire born 19th century man of letters known for his polemic works on history and translations of German Romantics. The sculpture is an bust of Carlyle, but shows him from the upper torso, upwards, while the rest is in the rough shape of a body sculpted coarsely. It's a nice monument to look at while walking through Kelvingrove Park.
Mary Barbour (née Rough) (20 February 1875 – 2 April 1958) was a Scottish political activist, local councillor, bailie and magistrate. She was closely associated with the Red Clydeside movement in the early 20th century and especially for her role as the main organiser of the women of Govan who took part in the rent strikes of 1915.
It is interesting to see him in the side entry of University of Glasgow...

Very historic statue to the go van area .. as she rebelled and fought for rent refinement for the poor... HENCE THE tribute and statue !
Walked around Govan as part of the Doors Open Day.. good to see that Mary Barbour and the rent strikes given the recognition they deserve.
