I've scoured the internet looking for a one-off pottery class, and Brooklyn Clay Industries is the best I could find!

Some highlights:

- The people running the place make or break an experience. Reuben and Elsa at BCI are incredibly kind and loveable people. They went out of their way to accommodate us on our special day. They also let me check the place out before booking a class. Reuben was very patient with us, explaining the process while also keeping it interesting with some history/trivia/conversation.

- The place has a beautiful view of the Navy Yard basin and the Williamsburg Bridge. If you can get there for a session around sunset, that'd be perfect. Contrary to the reviews online, the place is extremely easy to find. Google Maps Pin is accurate. Just navigate. Use any of the two metal doors and get to the 3rd floor. And if you dig the 'back to the past' industrial look like I do, this place is for you!

- Probably the only place that offers one-time classes midweek/most weekdays!

- From what I checked, BCI has the best price point for a 2 hour class in Brooklyn/Manhattan. They had good equipment and materials. From a beginners perspective, the clay/wheel were easy to work with.

- They also have ceramics for sale. Proceeds go towards sponsored school programs.

- Interesting places to check nearby. I have no idea what Newlabs is, but it's beautiful! They also have a café inside. Transmitter brewery is worth checking out.

Would definitely return.
I took the two hour intro class and found it fun and informative. My suggestion would be to add another helper instructor when there are that many beginners in the studio!

Beautiful old building. Seats were comfy, I enjoyed my time here.
Didnt pick up
This place is full of rich history and it is in a beautiful community. This Theatre does so much for this community that even an outsider can feel the love and experience the many different cultures that are embraced here and celebrated.
Reminds me of the good old days In NYC. Feels like home!
The building is old NY beautiful with high ceilings with a gorgeous skylight. There is even a beautiful gallery in the lobby to admire during your visit.

There are always abandoned wrecked vehicles parked on the sidewalk in front of this address.
Is this an art gallery or an auto shop?
My daughter's graduation was held here I could see and hear well.
Came here for a graduation event, a very large auditorium, a great sound system, and heard all speakers very clearly and loud.
Beautiful location for celebrating the 2023 Graduation of Benjamin Banneker HS.
My son's graduation was held here. Beautiful facility

I ordered a product online but entered the wrong address. I also wanted to add a new product in my order so I immediately sent them an email to cancel my recent order. They would charge me 15% of $116 if I cancel my order. They also told me to create a new order if I want to add another product and put it on HOLD. Then how long would I need to wait for that product if I were to put it on HOLD? I wanted both products to be delivered on the same day. But yeah after getting their response, I am not going to use their service again.

Very Dissatisfied!
Nice n spacious. I was there for a graduation.

They rotate the in store stock often, which means that you’ll always find something new! I have purchased so many wonderful blind boxes here, and I even won a secret box! The people who own/ work at the store are so nice and very helpful.
Loved! My friend and I tried the intro to pottery class and it was so fun. Reuben is an amazing instructor! He thoroughly explained each step and was very attentive to anyone having issues. Can't wait to go back!

The theater looks nice, but I was very surprised at how steep the seats are in the balcony. So steep that I literally had to crawl up the steps and sit in the handicap area. You don't get an angle view, you get an almost straight down view. Who approved this structure? I was attending a children friendly show as well. If you misstep or bump into someone, you're losing whatever you let go of. I also thought it was just me but then other patrons along with staff acknowledged the issue as well.

Saw Wife Of Willesden - strong recommend. Those seat high up were very weird! If you’re a larger person or scared of heights, think twice about those seats.
Went for a concert of Maxim Galkin. Nice place for a concert but acoustics didn't seem the best. I was missing part of what was said on stage even sitting close enough. Easy access to seats. Security standing staring in our faces upfront was a bit discomfortable.

We saw sign in Sidney window here and while the play was another story (great first act, bad second), the staff here were excellent! We sat in the second section and when people were on their phone or talked, the usher made sure that it stopped. The only problem I found was that phones kept going off, but that seems to be a growing problem in all theatre spaces since Covid-19.
Loved the Black History play which consisted of excerpts from several plays. Nice vibe. I found street parking a little less than a block away, but there is a parking garage next door.
Sending Congratulations to the Billie Holiday Theater on their 2023 50th Anniversary!!! I attended their celebratory production yesterday, highlighting the amazing history of plays they’ve produced over the years — wonderfully directed by Joyce Sylvester — and a cast of many of their amazing alumni, including Denise Burse, Pauletta Washington, Kim Sullivan, Phyllis Yvonne Stickney, Dyan Harvey, Peggy Alston, Harry Lennox and many others. I recommend that everyone join & support THE BILLIE HOLIDAY THEATRE an important part of Black Theater and Culture!

Always amazing exhibitions. Loved Jodie Lyn-kee Chow's exhibition
The Tow Center (which used to be known as the Gershwin Center) is one of Brooklyn College's HUGEST assets. It makes Brooklyn College pretty good for the study of the performing arts (although being in Manhattan itself is usually more beneficial) although I studied Acting, Voice & Piano @ Brooklyn for YEARS growing up; specifically during my elementary and high school years.

I took two "gap years" in between high school and college, during which time I took classes at both Brooklyn & Hunter, as well as continued to study with the same Acting, Vocal and Piano instructors @ Brooklyn that I'd been working with since the second grade, and I came to appreciate Brooklyn (& the CUNY system itself) in a whole new way.

I didn't end up getting my degree at Brooklyn (or at Hunter either), but I think the CUNY system offers a solid education to students, with an amazing amount of resources.
The best! A member-run space for emerging artists that work across many mediums, and unlike other creative spaces I’ve encountered in Brooklyn.

The space is beautiful. Staff is very helpful. I sat in the upper balcony. The seats are elevated for great sight lines, but you have to climb up into them and keep your feet on a platform the entire time. It's physically tiring. I'm a thin person, but I noticed larger people really struggling with comfort and movement. Also, moving in and out of those rows was VERY difficult.

Probably the coolest theatre I’ve ever been to. The interior architecture is so intriguing. Glad they maintained the original design. There is a steep pitch for the seating so no bad sight lines - very clear view of the stage when sitting. The the physical chair is comfortable the rows are narrow - toes of shoes touching back of seat in front of me.

Very excited to visit rare to find designer toys shop around the area
Very rude business owner too. Call us for a laser cut job without telling us what's the material so we declined her inquiry. After that, she came to our page left a 1-star revenge review by saying it is vinyl material and we are rude to her. Please educate yourself first no laser cut should cut vinyl. We recommend her to do a die-cut. She sounds accept it but here is what she did.

We were in the NYC for our honeymoon and noticed that the shop wasn't far away from our hotel.

I wanted to see the dumpster fire show that was available and luckily it was opened until the end of the weekend.

Showed up to the show and was not disappointed. The people inside greeted us and were very nice.

Good selection of toys and blind boxes for anyone. The dumpster fire exhibition was pretty awesome but alas most of the custom ones were already sold out.

Great place to showcase your art as well as see other exhibits. This place is a hidden gem 💎 operating over 30 years and located right off of Eastern Parkway and right in the heart of Crown Heights.
I’ve had a studio here for quite a while. It’s a great and affordable space. The people who run it are conscientious and very supportive of artists.

Wery nice exhibition.
We had so much fun at the Friday night Pottery Wheel class! What a fun, socially distanced activity. The instruction was top-notch and I really learned so much from Rueben. We felt safe with social distancing (3 couples, ample space) and we had an absolute blast!!! Highly recommend! Plus it was fun to bring a bottle of wine! I recommend keeping your nails trimmed and wearing clothes you don't mind getting messy or bring an apron. Enjoy!
Attended a game night it was such a big space and area that I never knew existed. It was rather warm tho. The game night was so much fun I enjoyed the atmosphere. Great place in Brooklyn to have events. Would go back again. Just wish I could get in contact with the organizers for the event space. It would be a pleasure to speak with them in regards to future events.
We took a Creative Hand Building class and we loved it so much that we decided to have a private birthday party at the studio! We had 18 people (all couples) and we were able to have a class using the wheel. It was a lot of fun. Though, we had to take turns and wait for our partners to finish their pieces first. While 9 people were working on the wheel, the other 9 were just mingling. Those mingling people took lots of pictures! So it all worked out perfectly. It's also a BYOB place. We had drinks and everyone had lots of fun. The instructor and staff are very nice, respectable, and understanding. They accommodated our party and provided the best service to us. As an organizer of this party, I was very pleased with all the communication we have had. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone looking to do something artistic and fun, by themselves, with a friend or with a group of people. Everyone in our group loved it and wanted to come back for another class.
Beautiful theater. Went to see Reparations, I had an amazing experience. The staff was very professional and courteous, seats were comfortable and best of all, there were many tableaus in the lobby... beautiful display of African American heritage and culture. Will be going back soon!
Great little shop for lighting.

I love that artists find a way and a place to make art. These look like they were abandoned storage and light manufacturing on the pier in Red Hook and now they are a fantastic collection of people who need to create. We need people who need to create. I’m glad this exists.

The instructor was going too fast when he started and finished his clay for teaching demo, perhaps forgetting that he has an audience watching him and grasping to learn. As a result when we started our own project, we were lost how to start it, but he did walk around and helped each one of us so that was a plus.

We came in 15 mins early but it was empty and when it started, we started 30 mins later because we waited for late comers because everyone got lost. Entering this place was hard to find. Of the 8 people that registered this day, only 4 managed to find the place.

You would need a BARCODE to enter the yard complex (which they email to you) and then you have to find the building which maybe hard for some people especially on winter night.

From our experience, instead of a 2 hour session, we only had slightly less than 1 hour. Teacher appears to be preoccupied to finish another project because he had something else he was doing in the back.

We were told to come back 8 weeks later by appointment only to pick up our baked and glazed project. Too long of a wait and maybe they need more help with the glazing project as 8 weeks is too long for some people to wait.

The good: dedicated teacher but perhaps too fast, small classes, personal help one on one when class is small.

The bad: old empty large building felt like a zombie apocalypse, you had to clean your own machine with sponges after you are done, hard to find complicated location in the dark, 8 weeks to wait to get your project finished, parking space are not designated and it maybe busy if construction is present, difficult to find the exit out of the premise because many exits out were closed when we were done, machine felt like it would scrape your palm if you are not careful, my particular chair was set much higher than the machine (i could not lower it down further that would allow me better body posture), no coffee or food eatery inside the yard however we saw a construction of a large eating complex being built closeby inside the yard (early December 2018) so this will change

If you are a local, it is not a bad place to visit but if you live far like us, it's a challenge

We signed up for the Introduction to the pottery wheel class. It was a lot of fun! Very great way to relieve stress and let your creativity flow. You will receive a entry code a few hours before the class to grant access to navy shipyard. To keep the pottery piece, it is an additional $10 per piece.

I thought we were lucky that it was only 4 attendees in total for the class. However, even with a small group, I felt the instructor was moving a little too fast. Instead of going step by step together, the instructor would explain about 10 steps ahead and then we would have to recall and copy the steps. The instructor did walk around to see how we were doing or if we needed help so that was good.

Why only 3 stars?? You need to send out a search squad to find this place!!! Every single person got lost!!! No joke. This place is definitely not easy to find. Also, you feel like you're in a zombie apolocalypse. Very industrial feel. Also, it took over 4 weeks for the pottery to be ready for pickup. This is quite a long time. Other pottery places I've heard about from friends after the fact had a 2 week wait time only.
Love this place, my neice comes several times a year with her son who is theatre major. We have seen several plays even seen stars like Paulette Washington & Denzel Washington picking her up after her beautiful performance. Went to see DOT wonderful play.
Increíble.

Stepping inside this small pocket, unique toys, vinyl, and all sorts of collectibles surround you. The presentation is simple yet inviting to the curious eye. In many ways, the store is set up as a small gallery. Walking away empty-handed is difficult. The owners are overwhelmingly friendly and only add to an amazing visit.
It's been a while since I've frequented the theater but it has always been a lovely local neighborhood theater for community residents as well as outside visitors. Loved this theater even before the upgrade. Hope they will have more fantastic plays for us to attend. Courtesy was received upon the day of plays. Small but a Very nice atmosphere.

Great local hub for art shows and performances. This space has been in the neighborhood for over 20 years and is deeply connected to the community. Gallery is open most days and also puts on the Crown Heights Film Festival every year.
It is a good small exhibition space for independent artists and groups. There are also studios to rent. The staff was pretty nice, but note that it is a minimalist studio building.

I have attended and held events at Gowanus Loft. Not only is the space stunning - that iconic NYC loft - but George Del Barrio of Vanderbilt Republic is a master coordinator and teammate, warm but highly professional also.
