Great selection and service! When we got home, one of the ceramic bowls we purchased that had a sign saying it was locally made by women, actually came from China..which was very disappointing. We love supporting local artist and knowing that wasn’t the case was disheartening.

Google forced me to rate this place but the owner responded like a toddler before I could remove it so it's 1 star now. Garbage people selling garbage.

The guy at the counter was friendly and talkative. They have a nice selection of Funko pops but the store could definitely use a little makeover because it’s been the same setup for years and I’ve been in others that feel more vibrant than this one. Would also like to say don’t waste your time trying to call because I can almost guarantee that you won’t get an answer

A bit pricy but you can find a lot of fun, unique gifts here for people of all ages. I got my friend a cool bartending book with “healing” drinks plus a small deviled egg plushie.

The service was 10/10. Everyone behind the counter was helpful and wholesome.

Avoid at ALL cost. This place has people who do not know their own company/store policies. I now see why Gamestop almost crashed recently and it is due to their poor hiring and this store is a good example. I have visited this store about 5-6 times and its a hit and miss (mainly miss) please do yourself a favor VERIFY the information they give you with other stores or look for someone there that is not new and may give you accurate information. When they bring someone in from another store to cover you can clearly see the difference in professionalism.

In the last month I made $$$ of purchases and pre-orders and sadly had to cancel and take my business elsewhere. Lets start with my OLED console pre-order. I was given incorrect information and not only did I make it a mission to travel and get the console I gifted elsewhere (Bestbuy) but came back to personally cancel my pre-order here. It was time/money wasted but at least I did not give them business.

I was silly enough and left 1 other pre-order pending. Weeks later when the time came to pick up my game I found out the clusterfk of a mess they made and everyone in line was upset. So to sum it all up this store should be closed and the supervisor fired because he isn't doing his job. They need a regional manager to come and see how they can fix things in this location because they will continue to upset/lose business here.

Based on my last experience this month I will personally never pre-order or shop at the very least at this Gamestop. I am heavily leaning on simply buying from Bestbuy even if it is a higher price due to poor customer service at most Gamestops.

GREAT selection and really kind staff. We came to find a NYC themed gift for a friend, and ended up getting that plus a bunch of adorable baby/toddler gifts and also some earrings for my wife 😁

Beautiful toys, games and costumes. Really lovely staff. Just reminds you how plastic has invaded everything, and how easy it is to change that.

Well, alas, it's not the HomBom of yore which I would've rated with 4 or 5 stars. This HomBom has a decidely smaller collection of toys and is missing the educational items that I routinely bought at the old HomBom, as well as the great and delightful variety of interesting items the other store boasted. You will get lots of personal attention at this store as the staff approaches making toy recommendations like pharmacists make theirs. I do hope the toys "prescribed" to me will be a hit with the kiddies and their parents.

I just visited the new Homboms Toy Store at 1470 1st Avenue. Its located between 76th and 77th street now.
The store is super nice. It's bright, has many new toys, books and games at very reasonable prices. The owner of the store knows every toy, and is very knowledgeable. Give Homboms a try. You won't be disappointed.
Love this little toy store! I was looking for a local place that stocked Breyer horses, and they didn't let me down. I used to go to Kidding Around, but they don't really seem to carry them anymore. Will definitely be back. Especially when new models are released. Cute shop, friendly staff, recommended.

Playing Mantis is an enchanting little store. I absolutely love shopping here for children’s toys. They specialise in beautiful wooden toys and have a great range. Most of all, the service is WONDERFUL! I can’t speak highly enough of the friendly, patient and helpful service I have received as a shopper here. Thank you to all of the Playing Mantis staff- you are amazing!

Incredible toy shop. Great service and selection. The staff all asked us if they could help us or answer any questions. Shops like this are hard to find these days.

I can't say enough good things about this place...we stop in whenever we're in Tribeca just for fun and I kept this place in mind for my son's birthday. I went in to buy a play kitchen and found the most beautifully crafted kitchen that will last us years! The owner was so kind and threw in all sorts of fun kitchen accessories for free. She even wrapped it in a giant bow and helped me load it into our car. My son has been playing with his new kitchen non-stop - what a joy to see him be creative and thoughtful in his play.
Thank you for such excellent customer service and selling such excellent product!

Used to go all the time until the sisters were rude to me and disparaged me for being worried about covid. Selection is just ok and it’s also a bit pricey. But if I had been treated with respect I might still be a customer.

Went in today to grab a gift for my niece. The attendant was very helpful in helping me find a range of appropriate gifts for her age. The store is small but the gifts are mighty! They don't fill the store with uninteresting gifts or shelf fillers--they really know what kids like!

This place is awesome, unlike your large Dept store “toy section”, think of Mary Arnold Toys as a mini FAO Schwartz but much better! Obviously it’s smaller, but every shelf is worth a double take, very unique and fun toys for all ages, I highly recommend!

I’ve been in this store several times buying stuff for my grandchildren.
Every visit was a pleasure. Even during the crowded rush of Christmas.
It’s just what you want in a neighborhood store.
Good choices in toys. And the staff was helpful and friendly.
As for any negative reviews.
It is, what it is.
Go in with attitude. You could leave with attitude.
I went in with a smile.
And, I left with a smile!

Excellent selection of new and traditional toys, great customer service when looking for a gift, and specifically the toys for kids from 1-5 y/o are top notch. Support a local business and don’t buy everything on Amazon!

What an absolutely fantastic place. Filled with lots of goodies. Cards, candles, gift's you name it, they probably have it.
It was a real treat to stop in here and find quality merchandise that it's well thought out and presented.
It's a nice little jewel on the lower east side.
Check it out..

I’ve been coming here for years, finally getting around to reviewing. I get all my cards here for every occasion - this spot always come through where drug stores, papyrus, etc fall short. The cards are always original, funny and feature nice designs. There is also a wide assortment of gifts and other chachkies, the baby gifts are particularly good. I feel like it’s a neighborhood staple standing in the face of chain stores.

Beautiful decor and toys, but I never felt comfortable having my kids look and play with the toys as the staff were always hovering around and reminding us to watch our kids. This might make more sense for a store full of fragile things, but not where I'm trying to see what my kids are interested in playing with.

Amazing local toy store. This place is an institution and always has all the classics like People Blocks, Legos, and Magna-Tiles in stock to the new trendy toys that kids must have for the school year and holiday. Staff is amazing and can answer any question you can think of.

One of the cashiers was very rude to every customer that came in. I was there with my husband who was helped by a different person who was very nice. The other cashier was rude and disrespectful. We didn't have to interact with him personally but I overheard him being very nasty to several other customers while I waited for my husband.

Great little toy store.
It's nice to walk into a small place on first avenue as opposed to monsters like FAO or Toys R Us. Service was great. They even held a toy for me to pick up. I called to see if they had it and the nice lady on the phone mentioned it was the last one on the shelf. I was impressed that she then offered to keep it for me.
