Sama Sebo is right next to all the museums in Museum Quarter and a great place to go after working up an appetite when visiting all the exhibits nearby. We decided that we wanted to sample as many things as possible rather than ordering two entrees. Enter the Rijsttafel or Ricetable. For €35 you get an 18 course meal served family style. We arrived hungry, but still had a hard time cleaning up all the plates. The owners brought out our food and were extremely friendly. They made sure we had everything we needed for a great experience. If you’re looking for a superb Indonesian experience Sama Sebo will not disappoint.
Such a hidden gem - the service was incredible with the host memorising every single persons name throughout dinner.

We went as a family of 4 and split 2 meat Rijsttafel and 2 vegetarian Rijsttafel and it was the perfect amount of food.

Each dish was delicious and unique in flavour - you simply couldn’t go wrong with having dinner here when in Amsterdam.

Bought a sauto soup! I was looking forward to it. When I got home, it had no chicken in it .. is that normal?

I like the food there. I ordered 2 nasi rames which consist of complete menu, 1 ginger tea, 1 hot chocolate, and 1 cendol. The nasi rames was really in big portion. The cendol was too sweet and didn't blend well with the coconut. I like the ginger tea, the hot chocolate was so so.

The service was also good. They served us kerupuk with really good Indonesian sambal. Since I can't finish my food they offered me to take the rest back home.

The price was lower than another Indonesian restaurant that I know around there. So it was a good deal.

This restaurant was fantastic! We had heard Indonesian food was can't miss in Amsterdam, and the restaurant we had originally planned to go to was closed for our last night. This has a fantastic location, looking out over Rembrandtplein, the atmosphere is lovely, and HOLY COW THE FOOD. Everything we got was so good, spicy but in the absolute best way. We all got different things, and we all agreed it was the best food we ate in Amsterdam. We would definitely go again next time we're here!

Restaurant Max Amsterdam offers a delightful experience with its Rijsttafel Menu. You start with a delicious Javanese Chicken Salad as a starter , the main course features a variety of Indonesian specialties like Chicken Curry, Beef Rendang, Gado Gado, and more. The replenishing policy ensures you can savor each dish and leave fully satisfied. The dessert selection, including banana tarte, Mango Sorbet and Indonesian spiced layered cakes, is a perfect finale. The attentive waitstaff adds to the overall positive dining atmosphere. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who appreciates excellent food.

Amazing food and staff, the food is so full of flavor. We ended up not ordering the rice plate but ordering a lot of different plates and it was amazing. To comeback.

So much food!! Had the 'rice table'. I think we counted 19 dishes of all sorts of things. The pork was a touch dry but everything else was really great. Plan to take the longest walk back to your hotel to burn it all off!

I went there after hearing a friend raved about the terrific food. I went alone and didn’t have a reservation, but they were kind enough to accommodate me. I chose the Sultan and I, 4 course meal option. Each of the food items were perfect size, wonderfully flavorful and beautifully presents. The Indian surprise was in the dessert.

What made the experience even more enjoyable was my server, Abu, he was attentive and patiently explained what each item were and how to best to eat them to experience the full flavors.

Highly recommend the delightful experience to all.

I had the pleasure of dining at this unique restaurant that combines Indonesian, and Dutch flavors. The rijstaffel was a delightful journey through various dishes, and the grilled watermelon was a surprisingly delicious highlight. The edible flower Szechuan in the dessert was a delightful touch that added to the overall experience. What truly stood out, though, was the excellent service. The staff's attention to detail and friendly demeanor made the evening truly memorable. I highly recommend this restaurant for a one-of-a-kind culinary adventure.
We had a wonderful dinner at Aneka Rasa! Everything was amazing, from the service to the delicious authentic tasting Indonesian food and cozy atmosphere. We would highly recommend the rijsttafel if visiting with larger groups to try a bit of everything on the menu. Special thanks to Jerry who made the experience extra enjoyable!

I went here with my husband, we had not tried Indonesian food before. The waiter was amazing. I'm vegetarian and my husband isn't. We had an amazing selection of dishes. Everything was really delicious. The waiter was very attentive. The desserts were delicious. Its always nice to have a sharing meal...even nicer to have a sharing desert. Highly recommended

The food was amazing! It was the first time I tried Indonesian food and I really enjoyed it. Everyone was also very friendly.
We got: fried rice, fried thin noodles (perfect with the vegetables in coconut milk), 3 chicken skewers with peanut sauce, and the beef in coconut and Indonesian spices.

We were excited to find this well rated Indonesian restaurant... bummer that next to the rijsttafel there were no options like nasi goreng or babi pangang... staff was very helpful, Lauge definitely put his best foot forward. Unfortunately the rijsttafel had some mixed results for us, the beef did not quite satisfy us for example... dessert was definitely great though, highly recommended. Bummer that Lauge asked out loud what the tip would be on the bill... normally that's something you'd leave with your patrons to decide.
Absolutely delighted!
Jerry was one of the most friendly and welcoming hosts I’ve ever met. The food was amazing and we all ate every bite.

I had an absolutely amazing meal here! Seriously, one of the best dinners I've ever had. The staff were incredibly welcoming and generous, and the service was spot on. We ordered the Ramayana, and they took the time to walk us through every item on the platter, which was a really nice touch. The food was all incredibly delicious. As an Indian, I was hoping for a bit more spice, but that's just my personal taste. Overall, I had a fantastic time.

Starting with the service, the hosting is great and felt welcomed the moment we stepped in.
The menu provides a variety of options including for both Vegetarian dishes.
The food was delicious 😋 and was delivered with proper description of what items included.
Just one complaint being a vegetarian someone don't expect eggs to be included in the dish. (Nonetheless it tasted very good)
This is a 5 star restaurant, the food is amazing and authentic and the service is very personal and makes you feel at home.
Definitely coming back to this gem.

Definitely reserve ahead - it was packed even on a weeknight! That said, once seated everything was very smooth.
We ordered the large rice table and it was more than enough for 2 people. Lots of bold flavors.

The food was okay, but our experience in this restaurant was absolutely terrible.

The waiter, from the very beginning, was completely condescending, rude, and seemed very motivated to make us feel uncomfortable and seemed to be out to get us for no reason. I'm not sure if this was just blatant racism or this was his form of entertainment. He kept making weird comments every time he spoke to us, like asking us if we were on a budget when we just enquired about the items that came with the platter. His continued bad behavior totally killed our appetite and we just wanted to leave, but he still kept up with his snide comments till the end, which resulted in one our friends breaking down crying, and even then, his "apology" seemed to only be token words, which still seemed like he was gaslighting us into thinking he did nothing wrong.

The other guests there noticed what happened at our table too and they were visibly put off and surprised by the behavior of this guy.

I've never been to a restaurant that's treated people this way, and it's surprising that such a restaurant even exists and is allowed to do business in a city that's as multicultural and open as Amsterdam.

It doesn't matter how good the menu is, or how big the fame is, but in the end, if you're not comfortable eating at the restaurant (especially with snide remarks), then the food absolutely tastes like trash.

I wouldn't recommend going to this restaurant, you definitely run the risk of ruining your evening here.

Adding a picture of the guy that ruined our evening. Looking at some of the other 1 star reviews, it seems like it's the same guy that ruined their evenings too.

To the guy: If you're reading this, you seriously need help, or at least a basic education on how to interact with people.

I'm an American that flew to Amsterdam to visit for the first time. This restaurant was recommended by a cool co-worker of mine who had lived in Amsterdam for about a year and I found this restaurant to be amazing. The food was delicious, the service was great, the ambiance and atmosphere was excellent.

The experience: We reserved a table the day before and when we got there, we waited a few minutes as they prepared our table, once they told us our table was ready, we went and were surprised that not only was our table ready, but all the small plates were already cooked and ready to eat. Our party of 5 immediately sat down and dug in enjoying every bite from the varied selection of Indonesian plates. It was flavorful and diverse. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you're interested in trying out excellent Indonesian food and have a big appetite!
Such a great experience, me with my other 7 Indonesian friends went in for a dinner. The owner & waiters are very welcoming. Would recommend others to go here and we would like to go back here again.

Small little bistro (mb seating 40) with wonderful Indonesian food. I didn't have the rijstafel as usually you can't when dining solo in Indonesian restaurants. Nicely decorated. I had the rabbit satay with grilled watermelon as an appetizer. Delicious and inventive. The main course was sumatran spicy prawns, served with yellow rice, vegetables and pickled vegetables. Dessert was Indonesian cake, spices with cinnamon and cardamom, sides of fruit and fruit ice.

We were inn need for a meal mid day, kind of in between early lunch and dinner time. The waiter guided us through the menu and we're happy to serve us a sharing menu meant for 2 people for the four of us.

The menu had lobster in a creamy peanut flavoured sauce, a variety of satay and lots of delicious dished.

Plenty of food for the four of us for an in between meal.

Kudos to the waiter.
I recently dined at this Indonesian restaurant in Amsterdam, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The food, in particular, left a lasting impression.

We opted for the satay sampler set for one person, and to our pleasant surprise, the portion size was generous enough for sharing. We left the restaurant feeling completely satisfied.

The taste of the dishes was outstanding, with each bite bursting with authentic and flavorful Indonesian spices. It truly felt like a taste of Jakarta right here in Amsterdam.

What made this dining experience even more enjoyable was the exceptional service provided by the restaurant staff. They were all incredibly friendly and kind, making us feel genuinely welcome.

In summary, I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone in search of delicious Indonesian cuisine. From the ample portions to the true-to-original flavors and the warm hospitality, it's an experience that's not to be missed.

This was my first time trying Indonesian food, and I have to say it was amazing. Every dish had different colors and flavors, making it look like a colorful palette.
The service was at a high level, and the staff were so gentle and kind. The prices were reasonable, not too cheap or too expensive.
I’m definitely going back to try their dishes again

6 star experience with Indonesian cuisine. Tasted their meat rice menu with multiple course specimens. The coconut flavoured beefstew was the best. Kartika is definitely a bucket-list restaurant. 👌👌👌
The food was good and some dishes very creative. Flavors and seasoning was oke, nothing special.

The restaurant looks great, blossom trees all over the establishment. But visiting the bathroom was a totally different world, clean but rundown.

Overall a good time nothing special.

ps. The service was great. Even some nice serving tricks that have.

Went for a dine in, a party of three. One of the party never had tasted Indonesian food before. I suggested to go for the 18 dishes rice table. It was served on three platters. Platters sorted from mild to medium to a spicy platter. You start with mild and move to spicy food so you can taste or appreciate the food better. It is a nice way to introduce you to Indonesian food.

Absolutely amazing all-around experience. The food was phenomenal - traditional, authentic, aromatic flavors that complimented each other nicely. It took us 2 days to get a dinner reservation because of how popular the restaurant is. It is located on Singel alongside the flower markets, a lovely and quaint location.

We ordered BATARA RICE TABLE for € 30,50 p.p., which consisted of 14 different dishes that we shared among 5 people (and still had some left over!) This was an incredible way of experiencing lots of different Indonesian dishes and provided a lot of variety.

I would absolutely recommend visiting this restaurant for an authentic Indonesian food experience!

Amazing food, friendly service, and on a fairly scenic / less busy street. We showed up without a reservation and two hungry little kids and they were so nice to us (for which I was so grateful). Rice platter was excellent. We did wait a long time for the main though because the kitchen lost our order after the starter which was a odd. I also ordered tap water but got charged for bottled. It was during Pride though so it was quite busy and chaotic. Would recommend for the good food and would go back

After a few wild nights of all night benders in Amsterdam, we were feeling like some Indonesian food. After looking around our area for a while, we came across Tujuh Maret as a restaurant. Come here and you will definitely not be dissapointed.

We ordered two types Rice Tables: one full course, one vegetarian and two orders of goat and lamb satay. And let me say, either or were wonderful choices to have a taste of the wondeful offerings of this restaurant. My faves: the beef rendang, the chicken and goat satay and the beef in sweet soysauce. Shoutout to the addicting coconut rice, with a slight hint of lemongrass. Definitely come here for some delicious food.

We enjoyed Indonesion food at this vibrant place. At some point we mentioned it was too warm inside and waitress did turn on the airco. Lobster is spot on with the accompanied sauce. Loads of tasty dishes on the menu. Traditional layer cake has a good sweet taste, not too overwhelming and texture was nice and soft.

To be fair I think most of the great reviews were for the rice table that we didn’t opt for. And having grown up eating Indonesian in SE Asia, I have high expectations. We ordered a sate ayam, rendang daging and Ikan Pepe San. The sate was quite good, with a tasty peanut sauce. The beef was tender, but could be richer and more flavorful, where was the serunding? The fish was ok, the chilli purée was a bit dry. The menu had limited choices, the description of the dishes was unclear and the staff was not able to really answer questions about them. Would have been better if they could allow you to choose your meat combination in the Nasi Rames. If you stick to the rice table it probably would be easiest for everyone. The dining hall was small and when certain diners were boisterous, the noise level would be a little unbearable.

A perfectly located Indonesian restaurant, busy, and you cannot reserve a table. The food is fine, although there are certainly better Indonesian places in town. The staff is friendly, but sloppy. We (and other people) were passed when tables were freed up, although we were promised to go first. Also they forgot the starters we ordered and directly served the main dishes. In exchange we did get a free round of drinks though.

Not a good start… It took over 20 minutes for the waiter to even acknowledge me. Subsequently he could not answer any questions about my dish… In the meantime I was treated for ‘only’ 30 minutes to a view of a large table stacked with a pile of used dishes from a previous customer. On the positive side, my chicken satay was delicious. So was my beef randang - tantalisingly soft, delicate, spicy, flavoursome. Verdict? A delicious experience - I hate to see the restaurant’s culinary potential tarnished by mediocre service… 🤷

Prior to arriving in Amsterdam we were told that we need to try Indonesian/Surinamese cuisine. Sampurna came highly recommended and did not disappoint. Dishes were packed with flavor (predominantly coconut, peanut, mango, and spicy). We were lucky to be seated as a walk-in but would recommend making a reservation as the restaurant was packed, even on a week night. Food was delicious and so fortunate for the experience. (We had the vegetarian meal for two, plenty of food)

Unable to enjoy. Was highly recommended as a great Indonesian menu, walked 25mins to get here—but they refused to accommodate our group of 7 (three of whom were kids), no waitlist, and when we said we’d wait, were brushed off rudely. I get that it’s not normal to host groups, and the kitchen made need some time. But surely. The small cafe nearby made it work.

It’s a fancy place to spend time but if you are hungry and need to really eat, you may feel the portion size too small for the price. Scallops come on pringles! which looks a bit strange but they taste really good!
What was really impressive was the owner, Jerry, remembered everyone’s name!!! It was a one man show. He took our order, sat us at the table and served the food. Throughout the meal, he checked on us and called us by name. The food was good but the service was what made it memorable.

Ordered sate solo, the 1-person version of rice table (rijsttafel).
1. too sweet. Waiter said black sauce was intended to be sweet. But he did not offer me the option to switch to peanut butter sauce.
2. Half of the skewer meat was burned, making them inedible.
3. Beef stew was too salty.

Of all the small dishes, only the chick dish was normal salty, not overly sweet.

Overall very bad experience.

Very good Indonesian Rice Table. The server was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We got the “Sampurna Rice Table” which was explained was their specialty and the best way to experience an Indonesian Rice Table. It was good. The new servers did their best, but it was SLOW. I saw that several tables waited 30+ minutes to be served, or get their checks. It was 90 minutes before we got our entrees!

It was also cold out and the heaters weren't working.

The food is delicious, but I get the feeling there is a lot of turnover and inefficiencies here. I'll come back, but wont wait this long again.
This is a nice and cozy Indonesian restaurant with friendly service and great food. We ordered the rice table for 4 people and the staff was kind enough to accomodate all dietary restrictions as well as ensure that there's enough variety for everyone. The food was nice and flavorful. Recommended !!

Really enjoyed the dinner here and I would definitely come back here again when I come back to Amsterdam!

We were a bit worried about the beef in coriander sauce as me and my mother don't like the taste of coriander but Jerry assured us that you can't taste it and he was absolutely right!

You have to wait a while (about 20minutes) but it's worth it. The atmosphere is very chill and relaxed and there is no rush to leave 😊

I recently visited this restaurant and decided to try the chicken with teriyaki sauce (number 15 on the menu), and I must say, it was a truly abysmal experience. The chicken was not just overcooked, but it was so dry and tough that it bordered on inedible. The teriyaki sauce, which should have been the highlight of the dish, was an utter disaster. It tasted like a cheap, store-bought concoction that completely lacked any semblance of authentic teriyaki flavor. It was a watery mess that did nothing to salvage the dish.

Best indonesian food I’ve had in a long time. A lot of love put into it. Super tasty, warm and just perfect. The service was extremely attentive and the atmosphere was really nice.

Totally recommended!! Thank you so much!

Visiting this restaurant was such a pleasure. Everything we ordered from appetizers to deserts was made to perfection. The 3 glasses of wine were paired with the meal perfectly.
You have to try their grilled watermelon. It looks bizarre but tastes very good.
The other surprise was the sorbet topped with a szechuan button flower. It creates an explosion in your mouth, but the sorbet calmes your taste buds down to a very pleasant feeling.
This is definitely not a traditional Indonesian cuisine, but it is worth trying.

Eclectically decorated bistro vibe restaurant that serves delicious Indonesian style food. The owner is hilarious and will keep you chuckling. Judging by the banter, the place is full of locals who are greeted like old friends. The bar is well stocked so you won’t leave thirsty (or hungry).
Out of this world, the best meal I’ve had in a very long time. The restaurant is beautiful and quaint and the staff is so lovely. We met the owner and she is the biggest sweetheart. Her hospitality and warmth made us feel right at home. As for the food, you feel as though you are eating grandmas exotic cooking. We ordered the vegetarian dishes and mackerel. I’m still dreaming about this food!

First time eating Indonesian and this is definitely the way to do it. The sample dishes had a nice portion size and were a good mix in flavors. For the price of 30 a head this really was an enjoyable experience. Yes they nuked most of it but for what it was for this newbie i would say give it a whirl. Service was pleasent.

Unique and tasteful experience, highly recommended! The restaurant sits central in Amsterdam and easy to reach.
Immediately when you walk in you feel calm and welcome.
This is because the music in the background plays decently and is being supported by the nice atmosphere created by the light and shadow effects.

Our waiter Michu provided very enjoyable and friendly evening. The atmosphere was great. We would not have thought about asking for more.

We ordered the Videotype and the 3-Wine menu to go with it. The food was nothing but amazing. The serving of the wine matched perfectly with the dishes.

We liked the duck and the seafood soup the most but to just to point out: Evert meal was unique and tasty.

We give the resturant 5/5 because the "creations" tasted very good, the atmosphere was awesome, the restaurant has a great look and the waiter was super friendly!

The price to performance ratio is a 1:1. By that we want to say that the experience was worth its price.

The restaurant is a must-see for those who like to experience the Asian kitchen on a different level.

Such good food and the best service! The waitstaff called us by our names with each check in and made us feel so at home. We ordered the pay-per-person platter for three and there wasn’t a single dish we didn’t like. Highly recommend the chick sate!

In A Nutshell:

-Cafe Kadijk is a lovely Indonesian restaurant.
-If you need a break from Dutch food or just love tasty Asian cuisine, then book a table here.
-It's a small building w/ two levels (the upper level has limited seating), plus there's some tables outside.
-There is also bar seating, which can get crowded.
-I tried out their Indonesian Plate, which consists of Rendang Padang, Smoor Daging, Ayam Bumbu Bali, Gado Gado, Rice, Prawn Crackers & Atjar.

Overall, it's a star studded plate full of immense flavor, I highly recommend trying it if you are stuck on what to order.

We had the suprise menu. Food was plentifull, nice variety and nicely decorated.
The suprise menu consists of two courses of starters and a main course. We figured it out when no dessert was included.
They have 2 robots helping the staff.

I’m not the type to leave reviews, but it was so BAD - I needed to vent 🚮

I ordered Roti with Chicken and Sweet & Spicy Tempé (soybean). The dish came with sweet string beans as opposed to the “kouseband” beans that should be with it. Some of the potatoes were undercooked, the chicken had no flavor and the curry sauce was very bland and a weird texture. Last but not least… the actual roti was hard around the edges, as if it has been reheated multiple times. The soybean was ok, but maybe cause the rest was so bad.

I already felt like I made a mistake when I walked around the corner and found an actual Surinamese stand with Roti on the menu… CHEAPER, even the color of the curry looked seasoned….. but I hoped for the best!

I should’ve read the reviews first… they would’ve surely scared me off 🤯

Well, now I know better…. Never again!
The food was delicious&fresh, the host was o.k, but you must notice the bill at the end, cause we almost was charged by a mistake on double price! Compare your bill with the menu's prices. Only after we let the owner know about the mistake, the total price was changed&corrected.

Vom Geschmack her mega lecker und hochwertig.

Das Personal spricht auch englisch.

Gerne wieder 👍

For me it’s more like 3 1/2 stars. First of all, I’m Indonesian who live in USA, came here for vacation. Every country I go I make sure I eat Indonesian food. This one is ok. Service is slow. Quantity is good. It’s little pricy for just mediocre indonesian food. I kinda enjoy it tho for afternoon dinner and drink.

Incredible food. Very satisfying. We had the tasting menu, which was a really great value. A little taste of everything if you aren't sure what to order. Despite being just small plates, it was very generous portions overall. Excellent service too. The gentleman who was serving (I think the owner), asks for your name when you come in, but ACTUALLY remembers everyone's name in the entire restaurant the whole time you're dining! We also dropped a bottle on the floor and it broke and glass went everywhere. He was so nice about it and didn't make me feel bad. Super nice service. Highly recommend this restaurant if you aren't sure where to eat in the area.

Sparingly and tastefully decorated restaurant in a nice area. Excellent rijsttafel - and that goes for starter and dessert, too. One of the best meals I‘ve had in a long time! Pleasant and friendly staff, always keeping an eye on customer satisfaction and asking if everything is alright. My impression is that it’s often fully booked, so reserve a table if you intend to visit. And you should.
This was so delicious! The portions on a two rice table and two extra sides order were more than enough to feed four adults. The flavors were complex and amazing. I would definitely visit again when in Amsterdam. Bedankt!

The owner is always grumpy and not really friendly, the staff instead is super! Food is ok but not great, I only like the ‘spice chicken sandwich’ they make. The spicy sauce that comes with it is gooood and worth 5 stars.

This is the best Japanese place i know in Amsterdam, i have been here many times and have never been dissapointed. Very friendly staff with great service and amazing food. I hate fish, but here i can easily eat it because its that good. It is kinda pricey tho. Lots of paid (till 7pm) parking places around the restaurant too!

Amazing dining experience. This is my husband's favorite restaurant. Seems like all servers cover all tables because we had at the minimum 4 servers come to our table for different things. Amazing teamwork and environment. Perfect Panna Cotta and beef rolls.
We ordered the 2 persons meal menu and get to taste a wide variety of selections.

The food are all well prepared and taste more than great. They come in small portions like tapas size, more like one bite per dish, good thing is by having small dishes you get to taste so many different cusines. Strong recommend for the beef and chicken swcrews

The price is very good for so many food
