One of the permanent exhibitions of Houston Museum of Natural Science in Hermann Park (Museum District) is Wiess Energy Hall.
This hall consists of energetics, petroleum geology, and oil exploration themed displays. The most interesting show is the display of Houston city's entire energy value chain with a city model and laser projectors. There is a big sitting arrangements in front of the model to enjoy the periodical laser projections.
It is in the top floor of the museum. No extra fee, included with the museum entrance fee.

Beautiful! Very small and cozy butterfly house with lots of tropical plants! We also got free tickets to the rest of the exhibits at the natural science museum today and went to see the dinosaur exhibit too, definitely recommend!
We were on vacation, me from Wimberley, Texas and my travel partner from Chicago and the live butterfly exhibit was on top of my list. The place is truly amazing. It's a little bit like Moody Garden's Rain Forest. We went on a Saturday. We went early but there were still more people then I would have thought. Get your tickets on line or use one of the kiosk's they have all over the place. They have a ticket window as well. We found the best way to enjoy the butterflies was to just sit for a while. Camera's are allowed but no flash. You really shouldn't need a flash as there is plenty of light. Also, they have butterflies you can buy but you have to release them there. I saw several people buying them for their children. Besides butterflies they have a large, live, beetle collection
So cool! Exotic butterflies in an indoor simulated rainforest free to fly about, so beautiful and delicate, like a lovely silent dance. A few lucky visitors became landing sites for the butterflies. A wonderful experience.
Best $12 exhibit you can buy! Starts off with an interactive and informative exhibit on all kinds of insects. Then you can enter the “Rainforest” to see the live beauty of the flying butterflies. You can also release your own butterfly for an extra $15 🦋✨
Very cheap entrance fee if you only do butterfly center ($12) Lots of kid friendly exhibits on the way to see the butterflies. The center itself is going to be warm so be ready for that, it's basically a greenhouse. Beautiful plants and tons of butterflies on my last visit. Friendly staff who are very attentive to the butterflies making sure no one grabs them or steps on them. Lots of pretty photos to be taken. Many cool plants as well, if you're a bug or plant enthusiast or your kid is you'll enjoy a quick visit here. Beware of clueless Instagram "models" blocking walkways or being unaware of their surroundings though.
This place is wonderful! Not just the butterflies or the plants, or the flowers but overall it is a place to be. The ambiance is very peaceful, it smells amazing, and of course butterflies are beautiful!
Also, the small exhibition at 2nd floor is a must see, you can actually see a butterfly coming out from its caccoon 🤩. Seing the lifecycle makes the impact. I definetely recommend this center.

Very fun and unique experience for both kids and adults! It was $10 per adult and $8 for child 3+, children 2 and under were free. The building was very clean;multiple places to sanitize your hands and a designated washroom area. They have a gift shop and a movie theater. The movie theater was open at the time and they had a cartoon segment playing.
There are a lot of interactive activities you can do: giant walk wheel, see how high you can jump, how long you can hang, giant intestine for the kids to crawl through, mind games/puzzles, etc. If you really wanted to browse the place and do the activities, it’ll take about 1-2 hours of your time and with kids probably more.
The possibilities of discovery was endless! They even have a real time lab you can look in one. So many activities for younger children and even adults. I even saw infants having a good time. You can go in a group or even solo, and still have an enjoyable experience. My family enjoyed the museum and all its contents. Definitely worth visiting and having fun.

Fun experience to do. Museum was small, lots of interactive activities for kids. Make sure to check out the lab.
The only thing I can complain was that the AC was too cold. It was 100 degree outside and I was freezing inside.

A good place for kids to learn about their body as well as the germs.
Young kids can feel the difference of each body part, older kids have puzzles and lots of games to play and have fun.

Wonderful place to take children. Very educational, even for adults. We went on a free admission day, Thursday, so it was packed. Very fun though!
This place was really a good bargain for your buck. It was totally worth the price of entry and my kids loved it! There are a ton of cool insects and spiders and really neat information before you enter the butterfly habitat. The being in with the butterflies themselves was really cool. We spent maybe 2.5 hours in total. I would highly recommend it

The enchanting atmosphere and the opportunity to witness these delicate creatures up close make it a delightful and educational experience for visitors of all ages.
Its smaller than expected, lab section was closed so entry price is not justified for just half a section. Other than that it was fun experiment for kids to discover the internal mechanisms of human body.
As a scientist, I love this place. There are many rooms interconnected with different body parts and senses, activities for think about, and temporary expos always great. You need to know it. Go!
Good educational exhibit mostly dealing oil production. Good location for kids to try the many experiments.
My son, granddaughter, and I had the most amazing experience and so much fun. From learning about our bodies, the interactive games, to the awesome Cell Lab. This museum is very family friendly, well organized, and very clean, with an engaging and friendly staff.
We had such a successful, wonderful and educational field trip!! The students were able to learn so much about how their systems works and functions. The Museum is very clean and restrooms are close by. The Gift shop is great, full of fun things for parents to buy for kids and adults.
The exhibit is extremely biased. Probably about 90% is about oil and gas, with a tiny little enclosed space about renewable energy. They also make the oil and gas areas engaging to interact with, while the renewables get sad little screens with a few pictures and very little information. They were also quick to point out the problems associated with various renewables but somehow “forgot” to do the same for oil/gas. I’m a little surprised to find such blatant propaganda inside a science museum.

This place is so fun and educational great place for family to lean the chemical and energy like how we get the power, how those power coming from. You even want to know more the nuclear fission and any engineering about the green or renewable energy. It is a cool place go with your kids and have fun there.
While the exhibits are all well done, it seems to really make oil look good, which makes sense when you see their donor list. There wasn't much focus on other sources of energy. Even the "Energy City" was very focused on oil and renewables were a side addition.
There was obviously a lot of money pumped into this exhibit from the many "generous donated by" mentions seen when walking around. This results in an amazing presentation of the technology used to obtain the energy we need. I have seen reviews criticizing the lack of information about renewable resources, and although I see their point, I don't believe the focus of the exhibit was ever mainly the energy. The focus is on the technology and process taken to get that energy. I personally was impressed with the presentation and would wholeheartedly recommend visiting to check it out.
We were so excited to hear that the newly redesigned exhibit was opening and then to finally see what they’ve done was incredible. You could spend hours here and with all the interactive items kids of all ages can enjoy this huge new attraction.
