I was quite disappointed that after paying them over £400 for my cover for 5 years they would not flex on my renewal when the premium went up yet again this year - I have never claimed from them - would have been nice to have been valued as a customer - from what I have read here I'm kind of glad I left

Fantastic service from this company yes it's the quotes that take so long. But not photoguards fault.

If I could give it 0 star, I would do that. The worst company to insure your photography gears, my claim has taken far too long. This company is worse than the thieves that might rob your equipment in the first place. I’ve experienced more trauma while dealing with them that the robbery itself. Photoguard will happily take your money but have no doubt they will do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING to get out of paying out a claim. Basically, I’m a portrait&street photographer and I was attacked in the street on June, 1st. Unfortunately, my backpack including all my camera equipments were stolen. The incident was so shocking moment for me as I never experienced anything like that before. I reported it to the police, have gone through counselling sessions and still have not fully recovered. Photogouard has been a nightmare to deal with. They keep delaying processing the claim by asking irrelevant questions and requesting irrelevant documents. It’s been over 11 weeks now and I’m still waiting, this is absolutely nonsense and totally unacceptable.
Based on my experience with this company I ask you not to insure your gears with them as they have been awful for theft as is in my case and why I have given this review. False advertising and lies. They advertise themselves on RPS website saying they have 10% discount for the members, the problem is there's no way of using the code on the website. If you call them they will tell you that the discount has been "magically" applied already to your quote - which is a lie.
Another thing is that they offer £5 amazon gift cards for new customers, the problem is if you read Terms & Conditions you will find out it's only available between 15th march - 31st August 2021, we have November 2022 right now.
If you put your details on the website but don't buy insurance they will be calling you everyday for a week trying to push you to do it over the phone.
Avoid, there's better and cheaper places to insure camera gear.

Will not pay out if you lock your bike up to metal rails with d-lock and another metal lock outside your property if the area is used by your neighbours. Has to be kept inside your flat which is completely impractical if you like on the 2nd floor. Insurance industry living up to it's name as very dishonest and parasitical.

If I could give a half star, I would. We had treatment for our furbaby in Feb 2022, they've now paid 27th June 2022, they only paid because I threatened to report them to the financial ombudsman.... The service is terrible and would not recomment them at all.....

Be very wary of using this Company. They have done everything they can to avoid paying my claim (£566) despite having been with them for 3 years with no claims! They take over 8 weeks to pay a claim even if they accept it. They use any excuse to to delay making a payment. There is no actual contact except emails and leaving messages. i am reporting them to the Ombudsman so please BEWARE - this is the worst company we have ever dealt with.

Avoid this company. Paid insurance on my kit for 6 years and spilt tea on my laptop a few weeks back. I had to pay for the assessment myself, then they finally got back to me and are only covering me £500 with my excess deducted. On a £1700 laptop. And won’t let me leave the policy. The customer service is appalling. Had to deal with so many problems over the years - not sending me documents, automatically renewing policies and now wasting so much time/money on my first ever claim with them.

Thistle insurance are extremely judgemental when it comes to spent convictions I had a conviction from 2002 nothing to do with arson or fraud etc but this was through the local council housing service and I got rejected based on this they have not talked to me in person just going off a piece of paper pure judgemental personal company. Don't bother trying to apply if you have previous convictions

My housing association recommended Thistle to us when we moved into our property last May.
We paid our premiums every month, went through a financial rough patch and considered cancelling the policy, what was the chance anything would happen? We did keep the policy, because it was not worth not having it, just in case.
The worst happened. My life was turned upside down. We were the victims of an arson attack. Someone had deliberately attacked my family and blew up our outhouse next to the house. It had damaged the house itself and my car and cars across the street the explosion was so intense. In the midst of the chaos, the confusion and fear for my life and fear for my two year old in the back of my mind I was so grateful I had insurance. I had lost so much, thousands of pounds of stuff destroyed, burnt, disintegrated, covered in glass, impaled with fence posts.
I contacted Thistle, all very concerned for us, we were living in a homeless hostel for over two weeks, then a homeless flat until we could be relocated.
My last correspondence was them saying they were not going to pay a penny. Not one thing. I had paid over £250 of insurance premiums to cover us in case of something horrendous happening. Something horrendous did happen, and Thistle and Ageas that they work with won't pay out. The outhouse and subsequent damage was covered for theft and damage due to theft. Not a malicious attack. So, anyone thinking about taking out insurance whith Thistle, don't. In your darkest hours they will not help you, they will push you further into the darkness, further into despair as bills rack up and laugh and say, sorry, it's not our problem.

Horrible company. I haven't taken out any policy with them, but from their customer services team and the way they are ran, here's my observations:
-) Customer service team do not get back to you when you say they would check with the underwriter, you have to chase them up to get your questions answer

All the questions I've asked are pretty easy to answer and standard, but no one seems to know. When it comes to claiming something, it would be extremely easy for them to turn around and tell you that you've not understood the Policy correctly, or that you've missed something. Try calling them yourself and see, my advice is to STAY CLEAR!

I've Been insured with this company for years and not had any problem but this year they renewed my policy without notifying me....(which had gone up) and when I phoned up to ask why they just said sorry. I then cancelled the policy same day and they said they would refund straight away...Over a month later I'm still on the phone asking where my refund is...Just been told it could take ANOTHER 5 working days....that's over 2 months to pay me back ....Waste of time,,,

4 years with the company, come to making my first claim and I’m not covered for the damage to my lens. What a waste of £400 across those years. I’ve recommend to friends in the past who ill be advising to cancel their insurance. AVOID.

Didn’t think I could change insurers due to pre-existing, managed to better my cover and save a great deal of money without exclusions - I would recommend them to anyone!

Worst experience ever . This lot are 100% useless as had a boiler leak effecting whooe of ground floor .They sent so many different people to photograph the same damage it became ridiculous and on top of that they had atleast 4 companys involved in the background .
This IS one to avoid unless you want to keep taking time off work for all the different people they send to photograph the same damage.
They DONT respond to emails and rarely call you back.

Been with Thistle insurance for over 12 months with no claim. I have just cancelled my policy due to moving home and I have been told that I will not be reimbursed any of this months payment which was taken on 1st of the months even though I moved out on the 4th.
Today is the 6th so I have used 5 days worth of this insurance which is paid for 31 days. I have been told that I can not transfer this money to my new address as I no longer reside in a housing association property.
Thistle changed payment takers at one point last year (August time) which resulted in 2 payments being taken from my account which left me in an unarranged overdraft with my bank. To contact them was also very difficult with me being on an hour long call. I have never made a claim so I'm unsure whether it would be as difficult in that situation.
I also feel that their insurance is highly expensive in comparison to most companies. My parents and my sister both pay less than half the monthly amount I was paying for contents AND buildings. I would not recommend Thistle and will not use them again.

Switch Health were very professional and very understanding i have never done any business over the phone until now and will definitely return year on year to review my medical insurance . Alex helped me save £1000 this year and are looking to do the same year on year. i would highly recommend.
