Making the decision to work with DC Fitness has been a game changer for me. Ambra and Dylan set you up on a program to not only be successful with them, but also teach you fundamentals one at a time to set you up for success long term. DC Fitness has changed my life. I have been stuck for the last 8 years and tried so many workouts, nutrition plans, and fads...and never really had any progress. Since working with Dylan and Ambra I've been working little by little on the daily habits and am feeling amazing. Currently (as I sit writing this review) I am the lowest weight I've been in the last 8 years. I am eating more food. I am moving my body. And I feel so good inside and out.

No trainer or exercise program I've ever done has helped like Shawn has. It's been a complete mental and physical health game changer. My chance of relapsing into bad diet habits, mental health struggles, etc. feels like it has gone to near zero. Shawn just knows what to do for your needs in particular — on a given day, in a given year, for any given program or goal.
He just knows, senses, and addresses what I need. If you want to truly change your habits and reach a goal — mental, physical, whatever — Shawn should be a part of it.
My energy is better, I'm down 30 pounds, nutrition is great, we're on a supplement program (never successfully stuck to one before), staying on top of my blood work and improving those results, I'm breathing better, and my sleep is much improved. I found Byron and Whitney as I was turning 43 and felt blah. I had a strong weight training background and years of personal training at Equinox, but I had taken some time off and wasn't thrilled to rejoin Equinox. I am so glad I took the leap! Almost 8 months in now, 2 days a week, and I am feeling great and seeing results. I have mainly worked with Byron, however Whitney has trained me a couple times and was my initial contact when I reached out. I was very impressed with the detail that was given to learning about my likes/dislikes/previous training/injuries/eating habits/goals, etc before we started. These two really know what they are doing! (not the case with all trainers). They are focused on form and preventing injuries. The difference I have noticed from my prior training experience is what has made all the difference. I have perfected my form in ways I have never been taught previously! Never did I know my trapezius muscles were working during much of my upper body training, leading to rounded shoulders and tightness. I can now work other parts of my back I was never able to and feel so much better. They teach an awesome home workout to compliment the in person training, which has made a huge difference in my waistline and core strength. They stress rolling out between your workouts, and teach you the correct way to do it! Whitney and Byron have helped me with my diet habits and I've learned great meal prepping tools that I am finally using. They really live what they teach and that has been an inspiration to me too. I highly recommend taking the leap.

I found Dylan during COVID, when all of the gyms were shut down, and I was looking for a new way to work out. I had used the same tired workout for years, and while I wasn't overweight, I also wasn't seeing any gains in terms of muscle or strength. I had never been interested in a personal trainer before, as I'm busy and my schedule is too variable to try and meet up with someone once or twice a week. However, Dylan was at the forefront of a new wave of online personal training, that encompasses my lifestyle in a much more comprehensive way. He plans my workouts and macros, checks in daily, monitors my weight and musculature regularly, and we have a zoom planning session weekly. This is much more amenable to my schedule, and more fulfilling than spending an hour or two with a trainer once a week. I have had incredible results, and I would recommend Dylan to anyone who is looking for a coach who can hold them accountable to their fitness goals.

I’ve been with DC Fitness for several years – first to lose weight, and now to continue to improve my fitness. Working with Dylan and his team, I’ve lost and kept off over 40 lbs. and am probably in the best shape I’ve been in my adult life. Dylan provides great encouragement and support to all his clients, and he’s also extremely knowledgeable – he and his team are there to help you meet whatever goal you might have. I can’t recommend them enough to others.

I had the desire to get in shape and had been mulling over the idea of getting a personal trainer. The diagnosis of a connective tissue disorder was the final push I needed to start looking for a great trainer that could address my specific circumstances. After a lengthy research process, I found Jason and was very impressed by his credentials, program, success stories, and responsiveness to my inquiry. After chatting with him in person, I was reassured that his program would be a good fit for my goals of gaining muscle to support my connective tissue and losing fat to be healthier all around. His diet plan is strict yet manageable, and I appreciated that Jason also had recommendations for supplements, protein powders, et cetera. He does a great job of getting people of all experience levels acclimated to the world of weight training, plus he is a pro bodybuilder so he definitely knows what he is doing. He paired me up with my personal trainer, Debby, who is a perfect match. She is incredibly knowledgeable (also a pro bodybuilder), motivational, has a very similar health history to me, and is overall great to chat with during my workouts. I have seen a lot of great progress in a few short weeks that I know I would not have achieved without Jason and Debby. Overall, I would highly recommend Jason’s program to anyone regardless of experience level, health history, or anything else that may be holding you back from finally working towards your health/body goals!

Amazing! Thanks to the help of Byron— who not only showed me how to workout, but diet as well, I was able to go from 34% body fat to 20% within a year! Within that year, I gained 11 pounds of muscle and lost about 30 pounds of fat. They make working out feel simple, yet they still manage to keep it challenging and the results show it. Byron and Whitney are amazing trainers, but even better people, and I’d recommend them to anyone trying to get into fitness!

The workouts and diet are tailor made to specifically who you are and what works for you - and I know that sounds cliche but with this kind of one on one training, it can’t get more personalized. I trained with Byron who is so great to train with but both Whitney and Byron work together to make sure each of their clients is on track to be successful. Such a fun place to work out - they’re funny and caring (and Whitney makes some bomb healthy protein desserts too lol) and they are just really invested in you. If I could, I would work out with them 5 days a week all year round! Hope I can be back in the gym with them soon. Stop thinking and sign up!

Can't be more grateful to both Byron and Whitney for all they do. I found them on google and Yelp when following through with my 2020 New Years resolution. They have been my personal trainers for ever since. I wouldn't have it any other way. Its beneficial to have a 2 personal trainers that could review your workouts and adjust accordingly. It is a warm and motivating environment!! You HAVE A ONE ON ONE TRAINER FOCUSED ON YOU FOR AN HR!! no excuse only results.

I hired Jason and Los Angeles Personal Training to help me get stronger (and fit in my old pants) after having two babies. Jason was super responsive and professional. He asked what my goals were and talked me through the process and sent the information in writing as well. He provided an 8-week postpartum diet, cardio, and strength plan. It allowed for modifications as a breastfeeding mother and was very doable, though it required a lot of dedication as expected. I worked with personal trainer Dennis who is very knowledgeable, prompt, and flexible with training times. They are both bodybuilders and are very knowledgeable about diet and fitness, including knowledge beyond just heavy lifting. I am fitter and stronger than I was before having both babies and they have refreshed my dietary habits such that I have been able to maintain my weight during the holidays with ease.

I have had several personal trainers throughout my life and my experience with Shawn has, by far, been the best out of all of them. This is because Shawn's approach is far more holistic than simply doing weights and gym training. For life-changing results, there are other, more important factors, like sleep and meditation that need to be explored. Shawn does this unlike other trainers and this is why I have seen better results than with those other trainers. For example, I was able to see my body start taking shape for the first time in my life and lift weights I was previously unable to lift. I also appreciate the fact that Shawn listens and responds well to questions, I am never afraid to ask him questions and this is one of my favorite things about him. Overall, he is not only an extremely educated and curious individual that knows what he is doing but he is also an overall great human being to learn from.

Within just a few hours after emailing, Byron called me to inquire about my fitness goals and tell me how the program works. At the end of our call, he had me fill out a detailed questionnaire to understand my health history, fitness background, past injuries, eating habits, etc. Unlike most personal trainers, Byron took the time upfront to learn about my body and health habits BEFORE signing me on, which put my anxieties at ease.
I spent the next 8+ months working out with Byron 3x week—and it was one of the best investments in my health I’ve ever made. He built a custom workout plan that drove REAL RESULTS. I'm sending a big thank you to Shawn, my personal trainer for the all directions and good advice he gave me during my sessions. I'm currently focused on sleep and fasting program, nutrition plans and getting personal training, and I have to confess that I have dropped over 15Ib in less than a month with a good health.

After a phone conversation with Jason, he sent a trainer to my home, Alisa who was very knowledgable about fitness and nutrition. She brings weights, bands and other equipment with her each session. I have been training for only three weeks and I am extremely pleased with my results, as far as strength, stamina and posture. Jason also has an online magazine with a variety of topics which I can access. In only a short amount of time I can see my strength increasing in a very favorable way and intend to continue with this trainer indefinitely. I couldn't be more pleased.

Jason’s a really great trainer. I do the virtual personal training program because I know form, I just don’t have the knowledge to build my own plan. Jason’s always been very responsive whenever I have questions. He doesn’t give you a cookie-cutter plan; I have a few physical limitations and my gym doesn’t have the widest variety of equipment and he was very understanding and helped find the right exercise substitutions.
I found the diet plan really helpful because it’s flexible enough where I can try different foods, but specific enough about how much and when to eat so I actually see results. Be clear with your goals and stick to what he says and you’ll definitely be happy with where you are in just a few months.

I live in Chicago so I used Jason's online personal training. It was a great experience especially for the price. He would monitor my workouts each week and let me know if I should be able to go heavier on an exercise based on everything else I was doing. He'd also review my recorded diet and tell me where to tweak things. He was also good about reminding me to update my weight and progress pics, and he'd adjust the workouts or diet based on that. He was honest about how much weight/muscle I should expect to gain and didn't try to make huge promises just to get business.

I am a 68 year old male and have been working with Shawn for 2 years. We designed a specific plan for me including special diet, cardio exercise, dealing with my lower back issues, and nutrition, etc. I have seen much improvement including my posture, my physique is more defined and am eating more nutritious foods including supplements, and healthy shakes. Shawn is more than just a personal trainer/nutritionist... he is a lifesaver. I found Shawn when I was looking for a nutritionist near me that could handle the complexity of my stomach issues. I was 31 years old, 113lbs @ 5'10" and nearly dead. I wasn't able to eat food, I wasn't sleeping and I was so weak that I could barely walk. I had seen many Doctors, been in and out of the hospital and received nothing but drugs I didn't want to be on. In a very short period of time Shawn had me off the drugs, eating food, sleeping well, and strong enough to start taking care of myself again. After 3 months Shawn had me up to 140lbs and confidently lifting weights.

Jason is the best trainer I have ever worked with - it's not even close. Over the years, I've trained with many professionals who never seemed to share the same goals I had. Jason is results-oriented, and he knows exactly what it is going to take to achieve the results you want. In only eight weeks, I have gone from 16% to 8% body fat, and have not lost a single pound of muscle while doing it. Jason is right next to you every step of the way. He vastly improved my form and strength, but more importantly, he motivated me to stick with a strict diet and push myself further than I thought possible. I am excited for another few weeks of training with Jason before I head back to school, and cannot wait to see how much more progress I make.

I worked with Whitney to get into wedding shape. As a former athlete, I had taken to corporate life with the food and weight that comes with a desk job. I was at my heaviest and had heartburn due to the weight.
Within 3 months, I dropped around 20lb and moved from 37% body fat to a healthy 25% -- my heartburn went away and I could fit my old clothes again! More importantly, I was stronger and had a good foundation for weight lifting. Everything just fit better due to the lean muscle.
She truly is a miracle worker (because if she can deal with my lazy ass ;), she must be). She genuinely cares about her clients - she checked in during the week, and made sure I was learning healthy, lifelong habits.

Follow up Review 11-6-19
This is a follow up to my previous review regarding Shawn Philips who is a personal trainer/nutritionist in Santa Monica. I see Shawn multiple times a week and my body and mind have continued to improve on an upward trajectory. In the last year my life has changed drastically for the better. Shawn helped to heal my mind and body well enough that I have been able to start dating, traveling, spending more time with friends and family after years of isolating behavior. I finally am starting to enjoy a normal life thanks to Shawn's mind and body training. I feel more comfortable about my body at the beach and elsewhere. My entire body has been changing for the better. In addition, my mind has improved as well. Thanks to Shawn, I am not reacting negatively to stress and have removed many unhealthy behaviors from my life. With Shawn focusing on Sleep, Diet, Confidence, Exercise, Supplementation, and Positive Response Training, I have been able to achieve a large amount of my goals. The best part is that I am not finished yet and continue to strive to improve. I highly and with a whole heart recommend Shawn's services if you are looking for an extremely unique and empathetic personal trainer in Santa Monica.

Shawn is highly intelligent, well versed in nutrition and supplements, and most importantly empathetic. Shawn understands the challenges we all face in our quest to improve our minds and bodies. Shawn is not your typical trainer. A session with Shawn is not going to consist of lift this and lift that and nothing else. Shawn looks at your life circumstances, your nutrition, your genetics, your obstacles, and many more things. In my case, I have suffered from mental illness for the majority of my life. Shawn started to look at the biological root causes of my symptoms through review of my diet and calorie intake, several in depth tests, and referrals to additional professionals who could help me on my journey to a better body and mind. Will is the best personal trainer that I have ever worked with. I lost 32 pounds in 4 months due to two main reasons - Personal training sessions with Will and an extremely strict diet.
I used a fitbit tracker and kept track of my weight. Here are the recorded weights -
I weighed 222 pounds on June 23
I weighed 214.5 pounds on July 23
I weighed 202.8 pounds on August 23
I weighed 196.9 pounds on Sep 23
I weighed 190 pounds on Oct 23
On average, I had about 2 sessions a week, every week for 4 months.
Will's understanding of the human body and muscles is really good.I have always had lower back problems when i worked out. I have had trainers in the past who did not pay too much attention to that. Will understands back pain very well because of his personal experience with it. He was able to suggest exercises that helped me strengthen my lower back. In general, Will was very particular about maintaining good form for all muscles throughout the workouts.
One other benefit of working out with Will is the diversity of the workouts. Since, my main goal was to lose weight, we incorporated boxing sessions into our workouts too. Will is a certified boxing coach. The boxing sessions were really intense and were a huge reason I lost all the weight.
One other major difference between Will and other trainers is the intensity of the workouts. I have never worked so hard in my life during a training session. During the workouts, I was able increase the intensity to really high levels while still maintaining good form.
Will was also able to suggest diets to complement the workouts. Will was constantly motivating me to make healthier choices with my food so that I was able to continue losing the weight.
I highly recommend Will. You will not be disappointed and you will lose the extra weight.

Byron and Whitney have been wonderful to learn from and work with during my effort to build strength and flexibility after I ignored the basics for too long. They listen well, they’re very flexible with schedule, they stay focused on results, and they can adjust workouts to help recovery from injury or improve on specific weaknesses.
