We enjoyed some tasty sushi just before an event at the huntington theater. Very quick walk after so super convienient location.

Our alaska rolls had some dark meat on them but the taste wasnt affected. We tried some of their minty alcoholic drinks, and though they were good we found them too minty since the fruity flavors didnt come through.

There is only one bathroom which is common for boston but still counts as a downside.

If we are in the area would happily come again to try another menu item, they get bonus points from me for also having noodle soups or ramen.

We had a great meal here! Really enjoyed the vegetable rolls - I had the sweet potato, avocado, and pickled turnip rolls. Sleek decor and plenty of seating. Pretty busy here on the weekend, but we didn't have to wait long. Excellent waitstaff.

Just love it here!!! They have fantastic Japanese food. I highly recommend it. I really love their katsu chicken. The chicken was perfectly fried with a light batter. I also love their potstickers.

Bostonians don’t know the taste of real sushi. Fish were all dry, thinly cut, tasteless. Unnecessarily complicating menu. Sushi rice was hard and not cooked well. I don’t understand why this place get reviews of 4.3 average. Never recommend to others.

Went for Sunday Brunch at Zuma. There are 2 types of set “unlimited” menu and if you’re just there for the sashimi I do recommend choosing the lesser menu. The food is good, miso cod is the best as well as the unique dessert selction.

What is not fun is good food will always be trumped by bad service. We were assigned a main server (taking orders, making sure orders are delivers) who seemed like they did not want to be there, always disappearing and took lifetimes to bring in tea order as well as an order not being delivered however charged. When our dessert was served within 5 minutes the check was pushed forward to a hand trying to pick ice cream with their spoon.

Too bad. Food is really good one just must not care about service to eat there. I do hope you are aligned with a good server and waitstaff.
The drinks are amazing and well worth it. Service is great and the atmosphere is great, far superior than most of the common sports bars in the area. The food is great and reasonably priced, it’s not gourmet, but it doesn’t claim to be. Highly recommend typhoon if you are in the area, don’t listen to the negative reviews, they are probably from tourists or college kids.

Went with family of 4 for lunch, we all chose the Ebisu Business Lunch ($45/person). Selection of two appetizers were delicious, very fresh sashimi, especially the sea bass. Ribeye (cooked rare) was my favorite main course, there’s a $19 surcharge for the ribeye and black cod, so be aware. Wish the business lunch could include a desert, but had to add $9 for the desert.

Overall, the food quality was great and atmosphere was pleasant. You can also opt in for the $35 lunch option if you are on a budget.

Outstanding food and really great service. The staff also acknowledged our special occasions. Can't wait to go back.
Empty place on Friday evening, but I’m not surprised staff some mean, some unpleasant, you will not see the smile at all. Service is slow and no parking in the area.

My name is Mia, and I am Arnaud's wife, whose review you may have read below. I too felt sick—experiencing a severe headache and nausea—the day after our meal, which only confirms our concerns.

Arnaud has a particularly sensitive reaction to food quality, evidenced by past experiences where he’s had to discard meals. In one instance at a Thai restaurant, he saw a rat, and another time at a small Chinese restaurant, the food made him feel ill almost immediately. When he reacts like this, it typically indicates a serious issue with the food.

Aside from our concerns about the freshness of the food, which can occasionally be an issue anywhere, what truly suprised and disappointed us was the way our concerns were handled. Being called liars when we were simply expressing our dissatisfaction was incredibly unprofessional and RUDE. We showed a photo of the aftermath merely to be believed, not to cause a scene.

It makes no sense for someone to induce vomiting just to get a free meal. There is nothing logical about this.

We moved to a quieter part of the restaurant because our baby was crying, and we wanted to be considerate of other customers, not because we were unhappy with our seating or something else.

Your accusation that we were seeking a free meal was offensive and baseless. Please consider with your CONSCIENCE what kind of food you are actually serving, particularly because the prices do not seem to reflect the standard of the food served. Also, using cheap disposable chopsticks could save you some money but really lowers the overall impression of your restaurant.

Anyways, if you care about your health and mood, please avoid this place. We've never seen such a rude owner, and the staff's attitude was dismissive.

I had a horrible experience. I threw up my meal in their bathroom and when I told the waiter that it made me sick, she gave me an attitude - as if I was trying to get a free meal.

I then spoke to the owner, who also happens to be the sushi chef. He took no responsibility at all and even tried to make it sound like I must have an eating disorder. I even showed them what I threw up. (This is their bathroom in the photo.)

I can't believe we even sat in this empty restaurant. Never sit in an empty restaurant: why did I forget again... it's a simple rule.

Stay away from this place. Just because they are next to expensive restaurants doesn't mean they are thriving. Here goes your $100.

Ordered two lunch set bentos! (Salmon Steak & Fried Chicken) Both were fresh and the portions generous! I especially liked the variety as it included a few pieces of sushi, a spring roll, and a fried dumpling as small additions to the bento. Service was fast and overall it was a great experience!

Quick and easy lunch. No problems at all. Ordered a pork katsu bento box and came within 5 minutes.
EXCELLENT! We ordered from Basho repeatedly via DoorDash while my son was being treated in the hospital. He loves sushi and this was such a comforting treat for him and us during a difficult time. Everything we ordered was consistently good. The rolls are creative and the quality of the seafood is excellent. Thank you so much for making our hospital stay so much better.

Sushi was good, we really enjoyed the Newbury Roll and the Dragon Roll (pictured). Service was slow and the place was really tightly packed. We ordered the edamame and got a tiny portion… half of what you would expect a normal portion to be, wouldn’t get again. Good sushi, recommend those bento boxes that seemed to be a much better value for your money.
Delicious meal! We especially loved the Rib Appetizer and Miso glazed sea bass. Definitely would highly recommend

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Zuma Boston, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. The restaurant's sleek and modern ambiance immediately captivated me upon arrival, setting the stage for what turned out to be an exceptional culinary journey.

This is a staple must go restaurant for my sisters and I everytime we visit Boston. (We're from NYC) Their sushi quality is super fresh and their Baked Alaska Tuna Maki is absolutely amazing -- super buttery melt in your mouth quality. I always order that one, witht the Butterfly Maki and one new to try everytime (This year I tried the Prudential which was excellent). We've been here once every year for the past 8 years and the quality is still the same as we remember it each time. Staff is friendly and welcoming. They've had structural interior renovations within the past 8 years and the atmosphere is very homey. I crave for their sushi when I'm back at home in NY -- I haven't found this quality at this price. I highly recommend!

We had our anniversary dinner here as it was one of our first date spot dinner places as the restaurant opened in 2019. The experience and food did not disappoint.
We had the signature omasake, with some cocktails. Each plate was prepared with care and attention and we loved every single bite.
Thank you all for the service!

The food at this restaurant is average at best. I tried their lunch special featuring chicken teriyaki with rice saturated in teriyaki sauce, a sad salad, a bland mushroom soup, and an unremarkable California maki. I requested a miso soup instead of the mushroom soup listed on the menu, but they don't allow substitution which is sad. Despite the steep prices, the quality falls short compared to other Japanese restaurants nearby that has lower prices and better food.

So my group and I mostly went to this place for drinks and appetizers so this review is based on that experience.

Firstly, the area was beautiful. Warm lighting and large wooden panels line the wall. The aesthetic felt modern and sleek with influence from Japan. The music was not overbearing and even when the restaurant was full, it never was loud.

The service was great. From the bartender to the waiters, everyone was kind and professional. They were patient and we never felt rushed to leave.

In terms of food and drinks, the biggest highlight were the drinks. If you're coming here, I would recommend ordering the cocktails with a few appetizers to snack on. All of them tasted delicious and unique and would be the main reason if/when I come back. The food was alo very good with a solid selection. As I mentioned earlier x most were appetizers but all the ones we ordered were tasted great with the exception of the tuna/salmon dip, but it was mostly an issue with texture for me.

The biggest issue for me was the price. As great of an experience as it was for me, the price was a bit much. I think the food was overpriced relative to the taste, portion, and experience. But if you're looking to impress and for a special occasion, I would recommend!
I've had the salmon burrito three different times. The first two times were SUPERB and perfect, but tonight, my salmon burrito had barely any sauce and wasabi, which left it pretty bland and tasteless. The tuna and crab burritos I got, however, had the opposite problem and were dripping sauce, which made it feel very heavy and soggy.

I've talked about this place to so many different people because it was quickly becoming my favorite, but now I'm afraid the quality and taste aren't consistent.

Edit: I ordered the salmon burrito again, and thankfully, it was of similar quality to my first orders, which I loved!

We have ordered from here many times and remains one of our favorite local places to get take out from. The maki sushi is fresh, fun and filling! They are so nice and will make any changes to your order you would like. The scallion pancake burritos and sushi burritos are so tasty as well.

Great food and okayish service. I ordered veggie tempura and a Newbury Maki. The tempura was the best I’ve had in awhile with Umai putting a variety of veggies in the appetizer. The Newbury Maki was good, a decent size, rice nicely cooked, and the whole thing tasted good. Loved the play with textures from the tempura pieces, salmon, avocado, and small roe.

I was surprised miso nor a small salad was served after I ordered, but maybe those are only given alongside bigger entrees, like bentos.

Service was a bit slow when I visited in the late evening (not too many customers). When I was brought the Toast machine to pay and tip, the waitress stood next to the machine watching how much I tipped, which seemed a little off to me. I’ve found most waiters will turn their heads when customers decide on a tip or aim the machine more towards the customer, so having the waitress stare down at the machine felt somewhat rude to me.

Overall, Umai was good for my first experience. I’d probably visit again only after trying a handful of other sushi places in the Boston area.

Most of the reviews seem great, I got sushi and pan fried pork gyoza and nothing was that great. The gyoza were fine if rather bland. The sushi was very mushy, especially the spicy tuna roll. Once upon a time the spicy rolls were actual pieces of tuna with some spicy mayo on top and now it’s just mush inside some rice. The sushi was also very fishy tasting. The spicy shrimp tempura was ok but I got the one topped with spicy tuna. So again had to wipe it off. Altogether this was $40 with tax tip and “fee” for the takeout so absolutely not worth it.

Great lunch specials at this sushi restaurant. Very fresh fish. We ordered the symphony Don Buri bowl and the maki lunch combo of spicy salmon, tuna and yellowtail. Our son had the side order of beef udon soup. It tasted like French onion soup with udon noodles that he loved. The maki rolls are huge, way more than what I was expecting for the price. Shout out to our server beau for getting our sons food out of the kitchen first and being super friendly
I love it here, can't complain. It was my first time trying the chicken satay, it was tender and seasoned well. The dumplings are my go to, so tasty

The sushi is passable, but pretty disappointing given the fairly high price. The eel was cold (maybe because service was slow) and octopus and squid was too firm. It's in a nice area, Newbury St, but next time I'm around I'll probably commute elsewhere to get better sushi.

Miso soup was respectable as was the lobster fried rice. My wife had the pork ramen and was rather bland. She did enjoy her salmon sashimi.

Neighborhood is a little rough.

Also odd was the place was 1/2 empty, yet they sat another party at the table right next to us. Just strange atmosphere.

I love this chicken!! It’s also so fairly priced for the quantity. A few years ago there used to be more on the menu (and quality of chicken was better) which I miss, but it’s enough to eat the chicken alone still. The little sliders were not my favorite because the quality of the meat was a bit meh. Too much fat.
Really tasty and fresh. The staff is super kind. The prices are fair. The crab fries are my favorite thing to eat when I go to Boston. Also, it’s super fast.

Top notch place. Love their food and especially poke bowls. Posting this review because I am very impressed with their customer service. I placed an online order and must have accidentally clicked the wrong protein. I went in and they rectified it and gave me a whole new bowl even though I insisted I paid and it was my fault. Normally I would have eaten it but I really dislike salmon. Very impressed with the customer service as I was already a big fan of the food the couple times I had tried it.
Kimchipapi is the perfect spot in allston if you want casual and quick cheap eats. They have such a wide menu so definitely something for everyone! I loved their potato Korean corn dog (crunchy, savory and sweet) and their fried chicken sliders! We tried the sliders with honey teriyaki sauce which was bomb, would definitely order both of these items again.

Came here on a whim for dinner Wednesday night, and it was just the two of us around 6pm. More and more people trickled in but we were given our choice of seating. It's a unique space with different seating options and lots of window seats.

We ordered the Party Boat, which was more than enough for the two of us. Each piece of sushi tasted fresh. Next time we probably would opt for ordering smaller dishes to share, but the boat was pretty good value for the amount of food we got.

The service was also very friendly and attentive. Every time my water got low, it would get filled back up right away. Would definitely come back for a casual meal!

Lots of great seafood options and drinks had us eating here two days in a row. The sushi especially stood out as delicious, going beyond the basic options and into interesting rolls with sauces and lightly seared fish. Tiki style drinks are on the sweeter side.
This place is such a vibe. The food, service and atmosphere is Top of the Line. Definitely a hidden Gem 💎 in Back Bay. I honestly can’t believe I hadn’t been here before tonight. Some of the best sushi I’ve had in a while. The lady serving was such a sweetheart and when above and beyond. She had a genuine smile the whole time and for me that goes a long way.

The soy garlic was such a good flavor and the strips had such a good crisp. I was they had some Korean beer options or really more beer options in general.
Comfy seating, friendly host, price and food just didn’t meet 5 star worthy. Wagyu beef fried rice was 80% rice and 20% (literally 4-5 slices). Just feels bad having to eat only rice after? I’d rather pay more to have a better proportion. Otherwise, sushi overall was pretty good.

Food:
I ordered the bibimbap bowl and added shredded beef. The takeout presentation was a bit messy, but I enjoyed the dish anyway. The gochujang sauce is all mixed in, so make sure you can tolerate a mildly spicy dish (mild for Korean food). The egg on top was cooked just right, with a runny yolk. The shredded carrots, shredded radishes, and bean sprouts were good, but the cucumbers seemed overripe and were slightly mushy in the center. The shredded beef was sweet and delicious. The rice was just right as well. When I finished the food, there were several tablespoons of red liquid at the bottom for some reason, so something was watery. The bibimbap seems to be on the small side compared to other restaurants, but I'll just have to order more dishes next time. Despite not being perfect, it was still yummy overall.

Atmosphere:
This looks like it's primarily a takeout place. There were just a few seats along the window and wall and the rest of the space was blocked off for takeout orders.

Service:
I easily picked up my takeout order.
I was a bit disappointed in the food and service actually. It looks sad and not tasty as before. **but food still taste ok… tho… I came back here because Bonchon was so delicious in the past. There are many changes here and I don’t feel the same about this restaurant.

We were craving for Korean fried chicken. We decided to give this restaurant a try. Bonchon restaurant is a large chain restaurant across the country. Street parking was a little difficult to find at this area on Sunday night. The restaurant was clean, but the seats were a little worn out. Staff were aloof. They had an electronic menu that could access it with your phone. Price was reasonable. Spicy fried chicken was delicious and crispy. I hope other Bonchon restaurants have more friendly staff and better seats.

First started ordering from here for the sushi burritos, but now our go-to is the bowls which are easier to eat. The online order ahead menu has very good software and it is easy to customize your order. I've always been impressed by the fresh ingredients in the sushi rolls and bowls, but it is also hard for me not to order the Scallion Pancakes every time.
We were visiting Boston and ordered take-out from here.
The menu had a good variety of selections.
The order was fulfilled pretty quickly, and everything was freshly made.
My daughter and her friends got the Kimchipapi Bowl and the Bibim Noodle Bowl. They said they were delicious.
I got the Bibimbap Bowl with shredded beef added on. It was DELICIOUS! I could eat this every day, if it weren't so far from home. 😄
I also got a regular korndog and a potato korndog for my son. He said they were great. I did get to try a bite of each, and I agree. We especially like the potato one, which was a neat take on an old classic. Even though we reheated them in the airfryer because it was a long way home from the restaurant with his items, they were still yummy!

A classic! We lived in Boston 5+ years ago and revisited this place to experience old times as students. Didn't disappoint! The portions are still generous and prices are comparatively cheaper to all other restaurants nearby. Fantastic sushi and service! Everything we ate was delicious - this place is a hidden gem. The employees here are very kind and the service is excellent. Our favorite things were the salmon-tuna tartar and the tsukiji maki. The lychee martini was also amazing!

The staff is incredibly kind and friendly, the ambience is amazing and perfect for a romantic dinner. The food is insanely good. They have classic dishes and ones with a newer twist to them. Price is worth it! Definitely recommend!!

Not sure why the reviews here are not great. But we had a fantastic dinner and great wine! Most rolls are in the $8-12 range and the sushi boat for 2 is $60 and perfect amount of food with good quality and variety. The bottles of wine are reasonable ($30-40 most of them) and the servers are super knowledgeable. We’ll definitely be back many times.

Delicious! And so aesthetically pleasing! The lunch menu is perfect. I felt full after leaving and it only cost $10! The staff was pleasant, and very hard-working. They made sure we were comfortable and our water glasses were always full. They also were super sweet and easily helped us by accommodating 15 people during lunch. I’ll definitely be back again.

I have been many times never disappointed. Always great... one of the best places to eat sushi. I can’t wait to go back! I loved the shrimp tempura and the tempura ice cream is to die for! This is one of the few places in Boston every time I go to Boston I have to go to seiyo. Staff is really friendly and attentive.
We came here for dinner with a large group and it was mostly empty. We had a great time and everything was delicious!

We got the Matcha Matcha and Mango Whisky drinks, both of which were super good, looked beautiful, but weren't very strong. For apps, the tuna tartare was the most tasty. We got an assortment of the special sushi rolls and honestly they were all super delicious.

The service was prompt and knowledgeable; the ambiance was hip. I would come back here again!
