I had a very disappointing experience at this Japanese restaurant. The service was absolutely terrible. Both the manager and the waitstaff were far from courteous—they were unfriendly and unhelpful throughout the entire meal. While the food itself was okay, it was nothing special and definitely not worth putting up with such poor treatment. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone looking for good service or an enjoyable dining experience.

Food takes way too long to be served (over 30 minutes). This is why we were only able to order 4 rounds instead of 5, in the 2 hours. Our orders were also canceled multiple times, and this cost us also time.

The meat and squid is being served in 1 trey. No regards for cross contamination. Most of the time, you don't even know even if you received all the meat you ordered because it's all being served in 1 trey.

The meat is seasoned with a weird type of seasoning that makes it inedible. I have been to many Asian restaurants, and this is by far the worst tasting meat.

No deserts are included in the buffet. For the price of 40 euros, you would think it would.

The sushi was the only good thing, but for this price, there are many other better restaurants.

To be fair i did go on a busy day, but that does not excuse all the above-mentioned problems.

Alternatives: for 5 euros less, you can go to Sumo or ShabuShabu. For 8 euros more you can go can go to an all you can out Korean barbeque which had better qaulity fish and meats. And also includes deserts.

Service was abysmal. Disgusted and will not go back there ever again. First the waitress was not clear when asking whether I wanted all you can eat or not. She sort of just assumed that that's what I was going for. She mentioned that you can only order two dishes per round, so I was confused and asked why there were rounds at all (it should make her realize that I was not going for all you can eat right away, but obviously she did not). Then when I couldn't finish my food and asked for packing up, she finally realized the misunderstanding. Then she was discussing with her manager, very loudly, criticizing me and blaming me for the misunderstanding.

My advice for managers of this place: hire waitors/waitresses who are smarter, more respectful, and mature enough to take responsibility for one's own mistakes and misbehavior.

Quality of the food is excellent. Service is also good. The only thing I'd change is not counting side dishes as part of your order. Each person can order 4 things per round, but if you want lettuce or another side dish with your meat, you only have 3 choices left.

Been here many times, I think food wise it's one of the best all in sushi restaurants of the Netherlands. Beautifull, fresh sushi with a great taste. Unfortunately the restaurant itself has become a little outdated during the years. It's a bit torn out. It won't hurt the owner to invest in a complete makeover. The personel is nice and fast, although if you want to take it to the next level, their hospitality can improve.
I used to come here much often before and it used to be a great restaurant.. Unfortunately my last visits were such a disappointment, even tho I tried to give it a chance.. Service seems like getting worse and worse.. Staff is super unfriendly, they even look bothered when you ask something from them. While there is only few tables in restaurant, they are more talking between each other than come to the table. We totally felt like we bothered them by coming to eat there. Such a shame.

We went here to celebrate my birthday, and I love it, we got nice cocktails, a good bottle of wine. Staff really had patience with everything because I changed a lot of things a lot of times.. But luckily they were really really nice and patient. The food was delicious and you had many variations. Different type of meats and sushi’s, we had a great evening and for sure will come back!

Terrible Experience with Rude Manager
非常恶心的店长

We had exactly the same experience as describe by other reviewers (in the screenshot). At the end of our meal, we were FORCED to order a drink, which no one informed us in advance.

When I suggested they let customers know upfront, the manager was extremely rude and said, "Everyone knows they must order a drink. If you go to McDonalds, a drink is mandatory.” Clearly, my friend and I didn’t know. Then the manager insulted us by saying, "Normal people know it. If you don’t know, it’s your problem, not mine. Just a drink, can't you afford it?" This treatment is completely unacceptable.

I've seen lots of recent reviews complaining about the hostility and rudeness of this manager. We won't be coming back and will warn others to avoid this place too.

Came there for all you can eat, but our tablet was apparently not working, which found out after waiting for our first round for 40 minutes. No one came to ask if everything was okay. We had to approach the personnel ourselves multiple times. Eventually they gave us cards to manually fill in for each round. Every time we had to look for someone to hand it over to so that they could put our orders in the system.. Rounds that we ordered from the tablet were never served. And at the end they did not even offer a free drink. Terrible experience for €45 per person dinner.

Food was great, although when doing all you can eat a few items seemed to get lost or didn’t arrive but we didn’t mind, only thing that would have made the experience better would have been if the staff were a little more kind/hospitable… there were a few tense moments between staff and other diners around us and it really made things quite awkward and we felt like we needed to rush out of there.

This is on my top 2 places for all you can eat sushi place in the Netherlands. The must orders include salmon flambé nigiri, tuna trio, Japanese fried chicken, and fried shrimp rolls. All the “classic” orders are there (different options for maki, nigiri, and other rolls).

We came at 19.15. There were 6 rounds and you order using a piece of paper that tracks your dishes and number of rounds. After you mark the dishes on the paper for the round, they take the paper, place the order and return it back to you for the next round. Since it was Friday evening, the service was really slow and we had to wait a lot for our food. After round 5 around 21.15, we didn't receive our paper back. Then, without warning we were told that the kitchen was closed at 21.30 after we had only 5 rounds. The staff was completely unapologetic about it. The fact that they charge you the full price, do not allow you to finish your meal and are not even apologetic makes for a really bad experience.
For a sushi spot it missed the marks on quite some points amd was overall ok. Service was often missing a spark of hospitality (the local joking waiter was amazing though). Food came in little portions (only 1 or 2 items) or got completely lost in the kitchen. The atmosphere eventually was calm and the styling is cool, but lacked a bit of warmth.

I mean its alright and close to a lot of facilities like the cinema but the food is mid at most and nobody serves your food with a smile.
Paid 100 euro for 2 persons without Alcohol which is too expensive for the quality of the food.
Only good thing is the location so dont go out of your way to go here

I’m Disappointed 😣 This is my first time at Sumo Oriental and the last time. I usually went to the Sumo in Markthal. If you choose « All you can eat» I believe that the customer is king. He has the right to settle for this service option, no more, no less. They make you feel like you're a bad customer because you don't want to drink anything.
They bother you 7 or more times with the same question. This is called a sales strategy (Forcing), a sales strategy forcing you to have a drink in order to pay more. It's as if the €40 we paid was a favor on their part! . and the waiters don't smile, and the little girl who keeps whispering and making faces (because it's terrible not to ask for a drink 😱😱😱) there was only one who was kind and smiled, he deserved a tip for his good behavior.
The customer is king and free to consume what he wants. Stop your forcing sell.& 🙂SMILE . Because you scare away people who have their own habits and choices.... We were even 3 people, but you were very disappointed with €119. You thought you had lost the prices of drinks.
But NO, you lost customers who maybe next time would also drink a few things.
I will come back to Sumo Markthal, for me the service is better and I have more choice and freedom.

Stopped in for a quick bite and were very surprised with the quality and service after reading previous reviews. The sushi is excellent and the staff were very friendly. Two sushi rolls came out within 5 minutes or so. Tables were very clean and overall everything was great!

My experience was overall negative. The mandatory app is awful. It forced me to spend the whole dinner looking at my phone instead of enjoying my meal, and I spent quite some minutes without eating nor having the possibility to order, just waiting for time to pass. Since you can only order 4 dishes every 10 mins, the system drives you to prioritize "large dishes" (such as noodles). I wanted the sushi but one dish is literally ONE nigiri. So you can technically order 4 nigiri dishes, but you will get only 4 nigiri and you will need to wait 10 mins to order more food. In addition, the quality of the fish was extremely low, so I just gave up the sushi for cooked dishes. I heard other clients in the restaurant complaining about the taste of the fish. Water costs like 6-7€ so at the end the minimum is 45€ per for a dinner, which is way too much imho to eat a few low-quality nigiri and a lot of vegetables/noodles. Some plates (e.g. sashimi) are charged extra, as well as sweets and all the drinks. On the other side, pleasant ambient and kind waiters.

I had the Crispy box with the strawberry tea boba and it was delicious and filling! Definitely worth it!
All you can eat is worth a try! Huge menu to select from and it’s really tasty!
My wife enjoyed so much her birthday dinner there 🙂

This place doesn't understand customer experience. It's not worth the price.

The food was okay. I like the sweet sour cucumbers. It really soaked up on flavor, although it was a tad too sweet. Most of the meat taste okay but it's adjusted to Western taste (sweet marinade). The fried prawn was oily though. The fried rice was really plain, it lacked ingredients. Uncle Roger would disapprove.

What really showing is that they don't understand what it's like for customer. The pictures on the menu doesn't match with what you get. E.g. the picture of the beef rolls show multiple beef rolls, the name literally says beef ROLLS. But you only get one beef roll. Other dishes like you can get multiple items, so it's really confusing. They have really rough wooden chopsticks. No scissors to cut up the meat.

The beef rolls were fine at first. When you order more, you will get more and more onion instead of enoki mushrooms in the rolls. At the last round, we counted 4 onion pieces in one beef roll.

The unagi sushi was the smallest I've ever seen.

You have to pay additionally for dessert (2 euro for a scoop of icecream).

Some pros: the exhaust is on the side of the grlling area, unlike the pipe in the middle at Korean bbq restaurants. They do constantly change the baking paper. We got extra candies.
We went here before, and we enjoyed food, so we wanted to visit again. But this time we were “greeted” by a waitress who did not want to deal with us. We did not reserve a table and asked if it was possible to dine in, as half of the restaurant was empty. She said that’s not possible and then waived to me as if I should have waited. She seemed kind of busy with two other customers, so I waited. Then she looked at me astonished and asked what I was still doing there.
We left really disappointed. The same information could have been communicated in a much more friendly way.
Typical Dutch service. Never visiting again.

Very good food and fast service. The premises are neat and there is a nice atmosphere. One server was a bit rude and rushing us to get some drinks, but other than that the service was good. Buffet is 20€ but you have to take a drink so keep that in mind. I will go again

really good all you can eat restaurant, the quality of the food is worth it for the price you pay. the desserts section is nice too, maybe add some mochi’s or cheesecakes. the rib eye is quite tasty and the variety of sushi is great. i will return!
This place is excellent. The fried foods are exceptionally crunchy and satisfying. The sauces are tasty. The ramen is flavorful. The service is good, and I appreciated that they asked if anyone at the table has allergies. They’re thoughtful and their food is amazing. Definitely come here. It’s authentic and delicious.
Delicious!! Very delicious!! We tried the special Miso and it was the best i ever had. The service was incredibly polite and caring. I absolutely recommend it! The portions are super fair:) and the prices are worth it.

Hinoki is one of the best places to have a ramen noodle soup 🍜 if you miss it from your trip to Japan. The ramen is delicious and the spicy option is bearable compared to original Japanese hot ramen. Hinoki offers Japanese beers (e.g. Asahi) which I highly recommend. A must visit place that I suggest regular visits.

The starter came with the main course. I had to hurry with the starter so the main course didn't get cold... starter was already cold... the egg for bibimbap shouldnt be cooked, the bowl should be hot... service wasn't paying much attention. Order, pay all with QR-Code. To expensive... wont go again.

I saw this restaurant was rated quite high and I passed by it often. Luckily I was able to finally try it. When we got there, there was was about 4 groups of people ahead of us but it was a short 15-20 minute wait. Cozy place with just enough room. We ordered the Special Shoyu Ramen, Tonkotsu Ramen Red-Special, gyoza, kimchi, Karaage Miso Ramen. Really nice food and everything really did taste good. The ratings really uphold the quality of this restaurant.

Very flavorful and tasty authentic ramen! The restaurant itself is very cozy and the service was really good as well. If you love ramen definitely go here 🍜 the fried octopus balls are also worth a try!
Really lovely time here! The staff was very friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious. It didn’t take long at all for our food to arrive and they were very attentive to the customers.
We went there on a Sunday for lunch and there were many empty spots.

The atmosphere was nice, no complains at all there, and the food was delicious. The ramen flavor was so intense, the broth was incredible.

The waitresses got a bit into my nerves. They were really rushing us, checking constantly if we were ready to order, like every minute. They were really impatience. I do understand that you want to be agile and move people fast, I know they are usually really crowded, but that day they weren’t, so it turned out to be annoying. I don’t eat ramen every day, and their menu has a lot of options, so we really needed to take our time to find something that we’d like. I’d appreciate if people are rushed a bit less!
that was an awesome experience! everything was spot on: the staff, the atmosphere, and above all the food. worth noting it didn’t even take 15 min to be served.

we ordered the traditional and the black garlic and both were among the best we had. the broth was just perfect, not too salty but not blend either. the char siu pork was tender and tasty and the noodles were al dente.

absolutely recommended! 🍜🍜
Overpriced and quite underwhelming. Waitress was friendly, but was not trained well - a simple question about a dietry restriction (swapping rice for noodles) was met wit a hesitant "no" - the query was not checked with either kitchen or management. Flavour of Pad Thai was very underwhelming. Jasmin tea was a bog standard Twinings bag. We've tried this place on several occasions but will give it a hard pass from now on.

Great atmosphere, staff very very kind and helpful 👍 We got Tonkotsu ramen Black special and Red special, both were delicious, Red special was moderately spicy, prices were OK, I can gladly recommend this ramen restaurant 😋
We came to have lunch at Takumi and ordered the soup with Ramen and breaded shrimp and another soup with Ramen, chicken, and shrimp. The soups are very delicious; they could have a bit more noodles, but other than that, they were great. We also ordered the strawberry and pineapple lemonade, but we didn’t like them, but it’s a matter of taste. The staff was very friendly, the service was excellent, and the ambiance is super cute, with all the Japanese-style decoration. It was definitely a great experience! :)
Service: When we got there, a few people were waiting outside, and we were told that we would need to wait around 15-20 minutes to be seated. But in reality we got in less than 5 minutes later!

We got a 2-person table (booth + chair) but we both wanted to sit in the booth, so the waitress nicely offered to turn the table around so we could be more comfortable!

Atmosphere: The restaurant is nicely decorated and pretty cozy. Great for going with dates, friends or family.

Food: We were on a budget so we ordered just 1 ramen bowl (extra noodles and extra meat) and an order of fried chicken, that was enough to just fill us up, as the ramen bowls are pretty big. Everything was so delicious! I was scared because I've tried ramen in several other places and its never any good, but here it was right on point!

Amazing ramen.
One of the best ramen ever tasted I found it over here. Tasty and creamy, I had the kitchen teriyaki miso ramen. In the menu you can find a lot of variations for every taste and kind of diet. Also the tapas look amazing. Very friendly and kind crew, it is really a pleasure to eat over here. Recommended the matcha soda to drink along with your food. It was really fresh and tasty. If you like ramen you need to visit this place Asap!

You literally get per order
1 nigiri
2 of the smallest inside out i have seen in my life (not very fresh)
3 wobbly gyoza
1 very sad little duck stick with 3 tiny pieces

Ok was
2 ebi fry
Spicy korean chicken

All deep fried things were fresh so was the nigiri.
The rest I'm not sure about that.

I was there for 5 rounds and 3 things never showed up

Of course the forced non included drinks (overpriced) aren't mentioned.

excellent noodle texture with thick but not greasy tonkotsu broth. the best ever found in my experience of europe travelling. Dipping noodles were also fantastic and very rarely, cooked in a perfect way. Every japanese food lover should try their ramen - we emptied the broth all in all.
There were three of us visiting Wagamama Rotterdam.

We ordered 3 main courses and drink. Once we received a bill it is brought into our attention is quite (too) high.

We called a waiter and he started crossing main dishes which we ordered and pointed „everything is fine” and run away. We called him again and pointed we DID not order „yasai yaki soba”. Ah, ok. I will refund this. No apologies, no explanation, nothing.

If the management is reading this, they should pay extra attention about doggy things happening on the till in Wagamama Rotterdam.

In regards of food, below the average (arrived cold) but the most important was:

1. Extra items added to the bill
2. No apologies, no explanation

Fast service and nice atmosphere.
The curry flavor was way too strong.
But I had a nice experience. 😁
First came through here as a take away worker last year.
I decided to save this place and come back to try this out.
At first the staff welcomed us and gave us a choice where to sit, regardless of how busy it was.
Very friendly customer services, both in dutch and english.
The food is amazing, mainly the ramen, but curry was really good too.
The only feedback I could give is that they maybe should switch from tea bags to actual fresh tea leaves (hot japanese tea).
The waiting time was perfectly fine, even though is was pretty busy.
I'd recommend anyone who likes ramen to try this place out.
They have some cool history to the restaurant too!

Really good ramen! One less star for only one vegetarian option. Broth was also not the best i have had but noodles are to die for. They come from Sapporo so thats probably reason. Staff was so lovely and friendly. Nice location. The takoyaki were not perfect (not really crispy) but octopus was bot too chewy just perfect since they were not super expensive so its fine.

It’s the most convenient sushi place next to my home. I often go to pick up the sushi myself and then eat at home. There is a particularly rude lady serving there, the one older than the rest of staff. I am a regular customer, she forgets to put soya sauce on my sushi box and when I ask for it she charged me 80 cents for it!!!
So I have made a habit that if I see her when I go to the door of the restaurant I go away and go get sushi in Albert Heijn instead. She might be the owner because she is grumpy with the staff as well. However the staff is kind, polite and helpful. The sushi is average quality, Albert Heijn sushi is better, I just feel lazy to walk 4-5 minutes more sometimes.

Tis restaurant has a very relaxed atmosphere. I had gunkan maki , yakitori, gyoza and miso soup with Heineken. Both were delicious.
I had a great lunch through a social deal. It's quite cheap but the service was great! The food is tasty and flavorful! The tepanyaki was so yummy and not dry at all. The ramen noodle is great, but I think the broth can be thicker. It tastes like an asian fusion meal instead of an authentic one. But the Bang bang prawn is something to die forrr. Overall it's worth trying for!
Surprisingly good and simple. Price is extremely fair compared to all the ramen places. The only minus is that they do not serve alcohol

- great atmosphere with kind staffs, felt welcomed. The place was clean and well decorated( as Japanese city food street vibe)

- as an Asian person(not Japanese) who grew up with Japanese food culture, it was still good not so much “westernized”

- I tried Mala tonkotzu Ramen, it was epic! Broth was deeply boiled and Mala was spicy and salty getting along soo well with pork piece and soft noodles.

- also tried a meal with chicken and rice. It was good but not as much as Ramen which was so good that I still can remind the taste quite vividly.

- Definitely willing to go back anytime!

This is an all-you-can-eat restaurant with a variety of foods to choose from. I have always enjoyed it. I have mainly visited the Rotterdam branch, which is located in the center of the city, a bit away from the shopping center (not far). The people are friendly and quick. Compared to other similar restaurants, I think it is expensive but okay. Prepare yourself for an extended food party and enjoy.

The tables had oily foodstains from earlier customers. When asked for assistance to clean the tables where me and my lady were sitting: the guy behind the counter blaitantly ignored me at first. Very rude behaviour this. Me, thinking Im about to spend hard earned money here, at least the tables should be descent right? So, I politely walked up to the counter, made clear eye to eye contact with this gentleman, and asked if the table where me and my lady were sitting could be cleaned before we got served food on them… Well, well well… this guy started muddering and cussing in a brabbeling manner, while he angrily abliged to my polite request and was damn near nearly stamping towards our table….with the sanitizer spray. Sprayed the table in such an agressive manner while my lady is still sitting at the table….totally not caring that the spray was also now landing on my lady and her bag and stuff….
His attitude was: Here! Here! Yu want clean table?! Here!! …(while agressively spraying and wiping the table)
Totally not the right vibe you would expect from a sushi joint in rotterdam, on the coolsingel of all places?!wow!

I do not wish this way of Shabu Service to anyone.

If you like Japanese flavors, this is the place to go. All the dishes are just mind-blowing, with strong, authentic flavors and a little bit of experimentation. Chef Yamamoto is a joy to watch, taking care of every little detail of every dish. It's a must-visit, and I will surely return.
Very good experience voor a great price. Food was all well marinated, tasty and even quite creative. These were not the most common options at normal Japanese restaurants. Paid just over €20 each, even including the sukiyaki. Definitely recommend just to try some unusual dishes. Will try the ramen some other time.

Not the best Shabu Shabu, or ayce restaurant in the city. But food was decent, service was decent and the place could be cleaner.

It really depends what you order here. Grill dishes taste well, but the sushi can really improve. More variations and better quality dishes.

I hope they were just having a bad day, since some of the other dishes were way too salty and not fresh.

The host was friendly and they do serve fast. But the rest of the staff could really smile or communicate more.

Come here you meat lovers!!
Staff is friendly and the place is really nicely decorated.

this restaurant is all about BBQ'ing that meat! so be prepared to get some protein overload...and please come here with your empty stomachs...YES that's right don't eat breakfast and lunch and skip everything to this dinner...it will be a feast that counts as 3 meals.

the Bibimbap is also tasty! we ordered it twice (the portion is quite big so if you're with a group it should be no problem)
i was surprised by the Curry rice..it was really nice to eat :-)
a neat feature is that some of the seafood things they serve in aluminium tins so it won't stick on the grill...(usually some of those seafood things are quite saucy and things can get messy if you grill everything on the pan) but with this it's no problem!

Still lots of options besides sushi’s, like cold and warm pokebowl’s, as well bento boxes. Prices have increased a bit, but the quality and quantity have gone down as well the service. They used to have friendly staff, but they don’t greet you anymore and even looked annoyed that a customer has come in. I don’t understand what happened to the friendly staff, especially the older man at the counter was very grumpy like you are a pain to come in. It will be the last time to come here to eat, really a pity.
It was just a fate to find this place, we were searching the place where to eat by walking on a street, and suddenly I noticed hidden (kinda) door, firstly we thought it's a drinks shop but after we were surprised to see that it's a nice restaurant where you can eat noodle soup(exactly what we were searching for).Well, it was worth to visit this place-rich bullion, amazing texture, huge portions. My recommendations!!!

Super tasty ramen, I added extra noodles so I got very big portion (I really thought it would be small that was why’d added noodles and I could not finish it. So, I think normal size would make you full)
Pork is very soft and soup is sooooooooo good.
Located nearby the centraal (less than 10 minutes walking distance), this place saved me from starve in the midst of raining during after-office hour. I ordered chicken curry don and miso soup. They were quite tasty! The portion was satisfying for considerably affordable price. The vibe there was also nice. Probably I’ll come back sometime to try their ramen

Initially, we went for dinner but the place was really really packed. We came back the next day for lunch instead.

The easier who waited on us was quite patient. We dint speak Dutch and his English was accented. He explained the concept, the price, the specials and how to order. The food was fresh, yummy and the waiting time was short.

Recommended for anyone who loves sushi and sashimi - but please make a reservation, especially for dinner, as they can be very packed.

Amazing vegetarian bowl, but the sushi was not that great. Prices are OK. The place is calm ànd you can watch people from the inside. The overall experience is worth it.

Quality food and sushi with a soothing environment. The sushi is delicious and Itami offers a better experience than all the all you can eat places. You may end up paying a bit more, however in the end it is definitely worth it.

Good place to visit if you are just looking for something simple for lunch. They don't have many options on the menu. If you need a more extensive choices of Ramen, I would recommend Takumi, which is on the opposite side of the street. But €24 for 2 persons (we had curry chicken rice and a miso soup, plus a beef ramen) I would say it's pretty cheap or fair in today's price.

Please note: menu was for 2017-2018, taking the picture of it just for fun XD

The nice thing about our visit here is we could have both sushi and BBQ all you can eat at one place!

The choices for both sushi and meat are not that much, but they surely serve good quality of meat. Most sushi also tasted good with a right amount of sushi rice (some places might give you a bunch of rice just to make you stop eating haha!). Another plus point is we could have two scoops of ice cream for dessert :)

Ordered online with delivery. The food is so good! Fresh, and yammy. Spicy ebi Maki, nigiri, poppin’n salmon bowl 👌🏻🔥 edamame was perfect. And everything was securely packed. Definitely recommend this restaurant.
My favourite place to eat sushi! Centrally located near Rotterdam Central. The restaurant is nicely arranged, so you have privacy while eating. About the food: the sushi is very good. They have an extensive menu with different kinds of sushi. The sushi is fresh and tastes good. Service is quick and very friendly.

The food is really nice, we loved the sushi and the meat dishes. The drinks were also very tasty and the staff was super friendly! Only downside was we didn’t have the best spot, we were kind of tucked away in a dark corner of the restaurant. But still it was a very nice experience!

Food was delicious but the service was mediocre. A waiter spilled our drinks and didn't apologise nor come back to clean it. The waiters were running up and down the whole evening like they were in a hurry. It was a shame.
We had 2 different 5 course menus, one with Wagyu beef.

This is a very nice place to eat! The food is delicious and the employees are kind. Unfortunately there’s always something that go’s wrong. This time we had to wait a while before we could order dessert and coffee. When te desserts came, they forgot one and there was no coffee. 15 minutes later, there was still no second dessert and no coffees. When we asked again it turned out they forgot about it. After that we got a dessert we didn’t order and still no coffee. This time it only took 5 minutes to get the dessert we did order and the coffee.

Fortunately the food is very delicious, that’s why we keep coming back.
Highly recommend this place if you like Asian food. The food is delicious, kind of modern twist to Asian food. The menu is mix of Japanese , Korean and even Thai. Dishes are presented beautifully. It is a great place to sit with friend and share food. The order comes from different kitchens so you may not receive all of them at the same time and a person can receive with a bit of delay and that’s the only reason I give them 4 not five star. The staff are friendly and they’re very attentive. They have Dutch and English menu. I will definitely visit again.
The experience itself was simply wonderful, Chef Yama definitely pays a lot of attention to the ingredients he buys and puts a lot of thought into his dishes/creations. He chose many local items from both the Netherlands and his home country Japan, and turned them into amazing dishes. I must say I was skeptical of a few dishes, simply because I was not used to eating them but I tried everything (even the foie gras) and I could not have been happier with my taste buds. Chef Yama is also very humble and friendly, and you can see that he loves what he is doing. The lady serving us was also very friendly and lovely. I’m very happy with my experience with Japanese Cuisine Yama.

The first thing you notice in the menu is that unlike in other Sumo restaurants you can’t order individual rolls or pieces (you can if you order takeaway) if you want to dine at the place. You can order from a pre set “menus” that they prepared, but you cannot e.g. order just salmon nigiri. Which makes it a little expensive, even if you don’t go with the all you can eat. The sushi tasted okay, but it was a little worse than in other Sumo restaurants.

You can also see that restaurant focuses more on the local clientele, as some of the staff does not speak English or as the all you can eat is done via Good old pen and paper.

The food here is amazing, especially the specials. The items are expensive however, and you shouldn't expect an "all you can eat" concept. You order sushi per 1/4/6/8 pieces and pay for those individually. The "red dragonroll' special that you can see in the picture here is especially great.

The night I ate here for the first time I felt like I literally had dinner for the first time in my life. This is what eating is all about. Chef Yama did an amazing job at curating each of the 10 (!!!) Dishes and 3 appetizers in a way that takes you on a journey. The hospitality was perfect, and I'd recommend the roasted green tea to anybody who doesn't drink alcohol like me.

What an amazing experience at Yama!

Former Yamazato restaurant 1* (Hotel Okura Amsterdam) chef creates wonderful combination between Japanese and Western style cuisine.

This chefs tasting menu is based on the actual season and contains small dishes that is beautifully prepared in a open kitchen.

Yama uses high quality ingredients and the combination of flavors are spot on.

Made a reservation 3 months in advance.

Let's have a moment to discus the food. Perf👌🏼fresh sushi's. I would recommend everyone. You don't have to go to Japan, while we have it here in the Netherlands.

EXCELLENT. We had very high expectations due to the good reviews and when you start testing the dishes you quickly realised why, everything is surprising and delicious. From the starters to the dissert, all with amazing flavours, not one mistake and very good service. Without any doubt one of the best restaurants I've ever been (if not the best).

Very lovely little Diner. They serve ramen aswell as rice dishes. They have chicken, pork and seafood. The prices are not too high and you get a full meal. The quality of the food is good.

The staff is very friendly and attentive. Always feels nice walking in here.

Coming here for six years now and this is one of my favorite places. I recommend placing a reservation if you come with a group.

Their Chicken Curry is very good!

Highly recommend this place!

Update: added more photos of different dishes.

Amazing sushi! Really good customer service. I enjoyed my dinner with different kind of sushis and a shrimp teppanyaki.

Cons: The explanation of the plates is just in Dutch
Surely a unique experience of authentic Japanese food in the Netherlands. Delicious dishes and very good service create a great atmosphere, but considering the months long wait and the price I was expecting more or more curated interiors.

The starter was great, beef rolls. The thinly sliced duck breast main was OK. The green tea ice cream was good as well.

I've been here several times. You have to make a reservation as they only have limited seating and it fills up quickly. Check their agenda on their website to plan your visit. A thing is, you can't be a too picky eater. The menu is basically a surprise menu. You can choose between 5 or 7 course menu. I always choose 7. The 5 course menu isn't less in food, but less in diversity. At the end of the meal I am fully satisfied and not extremely full, which is a good thing. The portion are small, very pleasant for the taste buds and a beautiful sight for the eye. Last course is always sushi (see photo) but the kinds of sushi may differ. They may be able to take dietary wishes into account (depending on the kind of request you have) so make sure you mention them in your reservation request. Also, you can choose to sit at the table or at the counter. I experienced both, and I recommend sitting at the counter if you want to see the food being made. I recommend table if you are with (a bigger) company and have a lot to talk about. Your reservation is only confirmed when they mail you a confirmation. The experience itself is extremely good, very friendly staff and they explain every course. Of course, it is expensive because the food is more exclusive. But very worth it. They change the menu per season. If you haven't yet, and you aren't a picky eater and love Japanese food: at least try it once ;)
I'm so thankful for my lunch at Shabu-to-go today. I was having sushi craving and I know they prepare fresh sushi varieties but as I'm pregnant I can't eat raw fish. However, the kind waitress that took my ordered went out of her place to help me choose safe California rolls to combine. She even got the inside-out salmon roll extra grilled and changed the normal covers for sesame seeds. It was so good and the service so nice that I had to write a nice review.
Thank you for helping have my sushi wish!
Excellent. Expensive. Quite an experience.

Almost discouraging reservation procedure. But, a warm welcome. Nice, simple place. Relaxed. Friendly people, who explain all you get served. Food was wonderful. Very special, and original. Exquisite.

One detail: the sushi. Makes ‘normal sushi’ really boring. It was fantastic. Any sushi place is bound to disappoint after this.

Just great, our evening here.

Even though it's not the best sushi I've eaten, the quality was very good.
The menu offers packs of sushi which will safe you around 1.5€ so I think you're better off buying what you like the most.
I have to recommend sashimi which while expensive it was so delicious that melted in my mouth and felt like a Spanish piece of ham.

Our meal for two costed around 30€. Being Spanish I'm used to have more sushi for that price but it's ok for Netherlands. Btw WC is free for customers.
