Had a very mediocre experience with Saravana Bhavan. Hands down amazing food, however lacks quantity with misleading pictures on the menu. Service is below par; had to ask for everything. The quality of food pretty much makes up for the experience. Would recommend takeaways for best experience.
A very cozy places. Too bad there is limited time they serve avocado menu.
So when we got there around 3PM they gave us menu with no avocado word on the list.

Disappointing Experience

I had an extremely poor experience here. First, the food took an incredibly long time to arrive – we waited 50 minutes, and when it finally came, it looked like leftover food. On top of that, the drinking water wasn’t clean, which was very concerning. To make matters worse, it took them 40 minutes just to bring out 2 vadas, and that was only after we reminded them. This all happened on a Tuesday, which wasn’t even a busy day! Overall, I was really disappointed with both the service and the quality. Definitely not worth it.
Food was absolutely delicious, and loved the options in board games... So much to play, and cozy vibes

Good coffee as well

Tucked away in a bustling street in the heart of Melbourne CBD, this café offers a unique and inviting vibe that sets it apart. The service is attentive, and the menu focuses on avocado, featuring a variety of delicious options. The poached eggs were cooked to perfection, adding a balanced touch to the meal. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and look forward to returning for another lovely coffee or brunch. Well done to the team for creating such a delightful spot!

Situated at the heart of Melbourne city, this vegetarian restaurant is at walkable distance to Southern cross station ideal for those who are missing their vegetarian south Indian food. Took a little more time to see several options available in the menu and finally filtered ghee roasted Ragi dose and coffee. The place is highly hygienic and suits for those who are badly craving to fill their belly.

Saravanaa Bhavan is a true culinary paradise! Whether it’s breakfast, lunch, or dinner, this spot serves it all, and they do it right. During my stay, I had breakfast here every single day, and it never disappointed. The ragi dosa was crisp and hearty, the aloo puri and gobi paratha were bursting with flavor, and the classic idly was soft and comforting. I also tried their rava kesari, which was sweet, perfectly textured, and a real treat. As a pure vegetarian restaurant, they offer lots of options to choose from, catering to every taste. However, the wait time for any paratha we ordered wasn't ideal. The flavorsome elichi tea was a standout—fragrant and refreshing, perfect with any meal. Each dish felt like a warm, comforting hug, making it hard to leave. If you’re looking for a variety of authentic South Indian delights, this is the place!

A must visit for avocado lovers. The food was delicious and the prices were reasonable. There is also a corner for board games and the other end for karaoke! The service was outstanding. We had a pleasant experience :)
Introduced by an Indian friend of mine to this Southern Indian cuisine which I've never had it before. Overall verdict, the dish were good, the staff was attentive and serving time was pretty quick.

If I can describe the menu, it is basically a variety of dosa, with their signature three chutnies. Started my dinner with Dahi Poori, a popular Indian street food which consist a yoghurt drizzled in a very thin hallow bread, with chickpeas, onion, and corriander.

Followed with Idly Vada, steamed fluffy rice cake and a crispy fried lentil savoury doughnut.

Next, flavourful Paper Roast Dosa (thin rolled crispy dosa), Cheese Dosa, Tomato and Onion dosa are served.

Both the idly vada and the dosas are served with sambhar (lentil based vegetable stew) and a various chutney, from tomato, coconut, and mint corriander.

Last but not least we close our meals with Madras coffee & Cardamom tea which is comforting and warm.

They don't take booking, but has lots of seatings and serving time is reasonably quick. I guess, taste of the Southern is truly delightful, humble, and obviously a heaven for vegetarian.

Great vegetarian southern Indian food with a really wide range of options to choose from. You can order co a QR code and it’s brought to your table. It gets quite busy around lunch & dinner but tables move fast.

Super delicious food. We had South Indian thali and North Indian thali. Coffee was so good! It was a bit busy, and people were waiting to be seated. So we vacated our table as soon as we finished our meals.
Great food, fabulous music and lovely staff! What more could you want…as out of towners this little cafe was the perfect Melbourne brunch location 😍
We enjoyed our stay here, food was nice but service was ok.

Great Indian vegetarian restaurant located a short walk from Southern Cross Station. The menu is bewilderingly long, with a huge range of options available. The good thing is that whilst it may take you a while to figure out which of the lovely dishes to order, the efficient and attentive staff will bring your order out in no time. There were so many dishes we wanted to try, we over ordered a little. All of the dishes were delicious and the value for money was exceptional. On both occasions we have visited, the restaurant has been very busy.
Dosa hut is a very authentic and excellent restaurant. I enjoyed coming here with my family and having a nice meal. The atmosphere is very welcoming and makes customers feel at home and comfortable.
Had a goat biryani here. The biryani was little, enough for one kid. The spices were very mild and suitable for the Australian pallets. They call it Hyderabad dum biryani, must change that name. The atmosphere was good. They charge you before you get to taste the food. Bit different, must have a lot of trust issues with the customers. 😜😄. The prices are way too premium for a normal quality foods.

Overall, an average experience.
One of the quick things to fix in city, if you are feeling hungry just give a try for chicken 65 starter and biryani..! Sometimes the taste is very nice and sometimes it’s an offset…! The taste fluctuates a lot..! Nice place to eat for couple of times but not most of the times…! Their chow mein is good as well. The chicken noodles are good but lamb biryani no good…!

Calling all avocado lovers out there - this is a must visit if you love avocado. The options are both healthy and delicious! They have helpful pictures of each dish to help you decide which combination/options you’d like in your dish. Plenty of hot and cold drink options as well. I had the Good Start and Avocado Strawberry smoothie, and a soy chai. The chai was so-so but everything else was amazing and pretty too!

This place also had board games and karaoke if you’re looking for something fun to do after your brunch! Plenty of seats so I didn’t need to book on a Saturday morning around 10am.
Worst Dosa Hut by far. Zero customer service and the experience was immediately off putting with music blasting to the point of not being able to hear my friend next to me. Thankfully it was turned down after requesting, but the food was the worst Indian I've ever had. The Gobi Manchurian was a pass at best. The Butter Chicken was sooo watery to the point of being physically inedible - we couldn't eat it with the tiny wooden spoons provided. On that note, v environmentally unfriendly with all cutlery, plates and cups being disposable. No naan on the menu which was v disappointing and the garlic roti wasn't even garlicky. Everyone knows a good garlic roti/naan leaves your fingers smelling for days (in the best way possible).
Can’t go wrong with any of the dosas here. The paper dosa, egg paneer dosa and chicken schezwan dosa are all great but the egg is my favourite. It’s got a decent level of spice, great flavour and a balanced consistency of crispy edges and a chewy, spongy interior. It’s also pretty decently sized for the price.

We are from out of town so when we spotted this place we didn’t have any presumption of what we were walking into. One of the wait staff was kind enough to point out a safe spot for our luggage while we sat at a table nearby.
The atmosphere was nice, someone did take our drink order quickly however for the amount of staff working this morning it did take a while for someone to take our food order. But oh boy we LOVED the food. So deliciously good. The one thing we want to give genuine feedback on was with the drinks. I did kindly ask when my iced long black came out in a rather small short mug if they wouldn’t mind putting it in a tall glass for me, and my friend loved the apple juice, but it went warm because there was no ice in it, a couple of ice cubes would have been the cherry on top. If I’m back in the area I’d definitely pop in again.

Food was yum and service was mainly good! Second time here. However, the manager (it seemed she was), was really rude to the other staff and I felt bad for them. Only reason for the four star.

Great atmosphere on a Sunday morning. Great staff and was ushered to a table almost immediately. Their service is superb and they are all extremely friendly.
Food is great too.
Yummiest Indian food in Melbourne!! So tasty and we love the wide variety of dishes available here! We loved their biryanis and 70 mm dosa. Definitely a must try !!
Nice place to get affordable and tasty dosa.

Tried several different dosa here now, including a 70mm podi dosa. Surprisingly filling given how crispy they are!

The flavours here are strong and punchy, which i usually love, but there are a couple of misses here. For example, way too much podi. Also, the sambar could be more balanced. But the chutney is great, and so is the potato in the masala dosa.

Overall, the prices and the food are good.

It's one of my all-time favourite brunch places in Melbourne. It serves consistently good food, which is fresh and cooked well. There is variety, and the food is always spot on. It's very busy. Often, a line up. The coffee is great.

What a great surprise in down town Melbourne! A fantastic menu, great coffee (like almost everywhere in Melbourne) and lovely busy atmosphere. We didn't book and given it was Saturday morning felt lucky to get a quick walk in table. Highly recommend for Brunch.

Dined in for lunch and I would say it was so good food was spot on and customer service was 5/5. I would say menu was bit overpriced as compared to portion size. Tables are so close to each other there is hardly any privacy.
Talking about place I would recommend this for good food and good coffee.

Cute little spot. Food was nice, although small fillet for the price. Plate was mostly sides.

Pretty empty on a weekday after the lunch rush (1:45ish). Service was just okay, however the host was lovely!
On 15 October we went to this cute cafe and we got:

☕️ Affogato & Iced Coffee
🥑 Avo Chookie
🥑 Berry Good

This place is located at the same place as Marche the board game cafe. The coffee was nice, the food had a big portion (look at the amount of avo we got!!) and it’s a great value for sure 💰 The dishes were presented beautifully too!

The Avo Chookie is the classic savory dish, but don’t miss out on the Berry Good! I swear Avo belongs in a sweet dish 😍 The strawberry cream perfectly combined all elements together, and the soft bread soaked up all the flavors.

Overall, a great place to visit with your loved ones! ✨

Really good food and service.
Bit of a wait to get in on a Sunday morning (bout 20 min), the floor manageress was in constant communication with customers out the front which I found was great service even before we entered.
Table of 6, seated and attentive staff all the was through the dining experience.
Decided to try this Restaurant/Cafe due to the great reviews online, and wasn't disappointed at all.
Highly recommended and will be coming back soon.
Big shout out to all stall including behind the scenes, a big thanks and keep up the great work
