Really cool place, would definitely recommend checking it out if you're in the area lots of cool planes and staff is very informative. There are also some much larger planes outside that you can actually go in and walk around in! There's also a really sweet Vietnam era medic helicopter in there that's totally worth seeing 😁
Interesting history of the Fairchild aviation factory. Very active during WW2 and into the 1960s.
My family and I visited for the first time during Father’s Day for the Open Airplane Day and we had an amazing time. There were a good number of aircrafts on display and there is so much time to explore everything. You don’t feel rushed at all. Our toddler couldn’t stop getting in and out of the planes😂 we also found out they have annual membership available and mostly have events throughout the year. Great place to visit with kids
I worked at Fairchild from 78-83. It was a wonderful day being able to show my youngest grandson the older aircraft. Now if they can get an A-10 that would be the icing on the cake! If you have a chance stop by when it is open, you won't be disappointed.
We throughly enjoyed our visit to the museum. All the volunteers were very knowledgeable and enjoyed taking us from airplane to airplane. On a weekday, you might even get a chance to fly a PT-19 with a donation to the museum. ($200)
We come here regularly, and it's always a great time. There's a large variety of exhibits to see, activities for kids of all ages, and regular teaching events and workshops. It's clean, well maintained, and the staff are always friendly. Memberships are available, and we bought one right after our first visit a year ago. They have continued to expand the number of activities, and have changed and improved the available offerings over time. Highly recommend this for STEAM exposure.
Great little aviation museum. The guides really know their stuff. Everyone was friendly. And of course, say hello to the museum cat!
What a hidden gem! When we visited, the museum included a Picasso print/pen exhibit and a special display of children’s illustrations that was simply spectacular. Their permanent collection is excellent, including Titian, Rodin, Pearle, and so many others. One highlight is a working tall clock made by David Rittenhouse in the 18th century — and it still tells the right time and date. Divert off the highway and visit this museum!
This place is fantastic! They have a great selection of art work. Admission is FREE! They currently have works by Pablo Picasso. There is a small gift shop that has christmas ornaments and Christmas cards that feature the museum. I highly recommend for the art lovers. I will be returning in the future as their art work is rotated in/out so you have new stuff to look at.
This place is a dump. $50 for broken toys, a scattered assortment of stained dress up clothes & absolutely zero staff. If you want to see what a low budget daycare looks like, better brace yourself. Also, good luck finding parking. Save your money on entry & doctor visits from HFMD and go to the park next door.
Definitely the best art museum in western maryland! They have rotating displays, local artists, famous artists, and nice events like the treasure sale and talks.
First time was ok. Came a second time on November 12 for a “Christmas at the roundhouse.” Everything was the same as in the summer. You would think that since it’s advertised as “Christmas” that there would be lights, trees or decorations in the displays but nothing. Very disappointed and won’t come again. Don’t need to pay twice to see the same thing. If you advertise it as a “Christmas display” then do it!
Update—The woman at the desk told us as we were leaving that the Christmas display is being done for next weekend. Then why does your ad state it starts November 11??
Went to treasure sale they have once a year. The only bad thing is parking because the lines you park between are not wide enough! They really need to redo those because when you have special events you have to worry if someone parking beside you is gonna hit your car with their doors. Not enough space! Love the museum. Love the treasure sale!
The place is quite rundown especially for the price. The Titanic model is awesome. My kids still had a good time so if that's your only criteria then you may think it is more than 3 stars.
The volunteers who run the museum are very knowledgeable about everything to do with trains. They know all of the history of the roundhouse and all of the local area. There are pictures of the old trains and buildings on all of the walls and they have different scales of model train sets on the main floor and upstairs. We had a great time.
Fun day with my toddler. For the price I thought we would see a bit more but it entertained her the entire afternoon.
If you or your children like model trains then this is the place to go! They have many trains and diorama's and setups and it's really cool!
Went for the Wings & Wheels event this weekend. The whole family had a good time. Lots to look at and learn about. "Donated" some money to ride in a PT and there was little to no organization about the order of riders. One of the ride along planes was down so they had to cram 2 groups of riders into one plane and they could never sort out who was next and who wasn't. Waited about 2.5 hours till it was finally our turn. I would recommend more trash cans for the next event, we had to search for one when we needed one. The food trucks and orchestra were fantastic! The plane exhibits were good with info cards placed well with some great info on them.

Wonderful place to learn the history of the Roundhouse. My 3 grandsons loved the model trains and especially the one they could run. The people are knowledgeable and so enthusiastic about trains. Able to get on a real engine and caboose and learn about them. 6 dollars for adults and one dollar for each child over 3
I really enjoyed this art museum which has many different styles of paintings and even some Rodin sculptures. Really enjoyed the fashion exhibit! And it's free!
A Hagerstown gem that always impresses with traveling exhibits and wonderfully preserved and well documented local history. The museum is appointed in a beautiful way that is cozy and inviting nestled city park. You won’t be disappointed!
Beautifully maintained piece of history
Awesome museum with free admission. Not busy on a weekday there’s also a park nearby.
I had no idea what the Patsy Cline concert was all about tonight. But this is what I do know.
-It was very hard to locate.
-I walked in 5 min late and no one greeted me.
-I was told that if I wanted to sit, some time in the next 2 hours, I would have to bring my own chair
-the performer was dressed casual
-she did not try to impersonate Patsy Cline at all
- I paid to see this; what should have been a free concert- at best
-I only stayed 5 minutes, but - what exactly did I pay for?
- was this just a donation for the historical society? I could have mailed that in, instead of circling the city 3 times - having cars beeping at me because I am parking downtown on a Friday night???????- and see a sign, pointed to go back the opposite direction- and no other sign pointing to where to turn...but turn i did...into this scary ugly walking alley to the rear of the buildings address.
- after this experience, I will never support the historical society.
-after this experience I wouldn't even mail in a donation.
-fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me for ever falling for it again. The historical society used a big name to have people pay to attend this event. Shame on them
Great place to take the kids and explore Cool hagerstown history on a nice day. Lots of cool planes are being shown, lots of history to learn about our town. Does not cost money. Just accept donations.
I've lived here for years and never knew about this place. very cool model train tracks and landscape. They have model trains that the kids just love. They have real trains out back that you can get into. They also have a whole area of the history of all of the trains in hagerstown. I highly recommend giving it a shot. i promise you will not regret the trip
Great train museum. The volunteers were stellar . Full of information and friendly. Great prices in the gift shop. The best part was climbing up on the trains outside and peering into the past through the windows. We go to train museums all over America and this was one of the best.
Enjoy the history! My mother attended school here as a child.
Had a tour yesterday. This is a great local museum with a lot of local history and exhibits.
My kids enjoyed here, with so much of space to play, painting, do some creative activities, drawing, reading..., They had so much fun and they don't want to leave. Great place to spend the day with kids where they can enjoy their time with new friends. Entry is free only for under age 2.
One of the best tours our group has had the pleasure of doing. Very happy with Abigails information. I learned so much.
We weren't there we went to the cemetery that is there. But I would recommend this place for anybody that hasn't been there.
I almost don't want to share, but it's a great place to rent out for up to 150 people. They did a fantastic job renovating the old school house. I'm going to find a reason to have an event there. And the owner is wonderful to work with based on what I saw. Pavilion, paver patio, school house are all included. I think it's limited to 50 people inside the school house.
This an event center where we had a 40th birthday party. There is an outdoor pavilion, fire pit, fireplace and the old histoic school house has two decent size rooms with a small kitchen. Very nice for parties, small wedding receptions. Etc. Not sure the number of people that it can hold.
Nice free art museum for a small town. Recommended duration 30 minutes to 1 hour. A collection of art by William Henry Singer and a beautiful piece by Norman Rockwell or among the highlights. The museum is situated in a lovely city park with the lakes and short trails to walk through. Worth a visit
My 2-year-old grandson had a blast here I his grandmother was keeping him over the weekend and it was a rainy weekend so I decided to take him to Discovery station and I could not get that kid to leave a little guy was actually falling asleep on the airplane he was sitting in. Finally he allowed me to scoop him up while he was asleep and take him out of there if my grandson would not have fallen asleep I have no idea how I would have gotten him out of Discovery station. I moved here to Hagerstown a year ago and I'm sorry It had taking me so long to discover this place I've always driven by it and never stopped in and I'm so glad I did for my hunter because now it's a once a month thing that him and I have to do together when he's here at my house. This place is fun for all ages even up till the age of 10 it's very Hands-On and active place and it's all learning while having fun how does learning get better than that.
Similar to the children's museum in Winchester, VA; its an inexpensive visit the kids will enjoy even if an adult will realize it's nothing truly that special... Not greatly maintained but clean enough to feel comfortable. The best part is the creativity room in which there are plenty of arts and crafts, paint, supplies, etc for the children's (and yes adults as well) imaginations to run wild. Overall cool place for the kids. I would recommend, I'm sure they will enjoy for 3-4 hours.
Went to cover the 25th anniversary, lovely time, place looks great, and they are the first children's museum in the country to offer mind control robotics. Highly recommend supporting however you can. Wonderful people with terrific activities for children of all ages.
The church rebuilt a beautiful building.

My kids enjoyed making Christmas ornaments. The place is bigger then I expected.
An amazing restoration of the 100 year old school.
This is a fantastic little museum with a modest but interesting mix and of rolling stock just adjacent to the CSX local yard which is on open tracks right next to the museums stock. This offers a great view of active trains which when we visited were busy shunting cars around and getting set for runs. The real show stopper at this museum though is the large model displays of which there are at least 4 separate displays. The cost of entry is modest and the staff was all very friendly. Definitely worth a visit especially if you love model trains.

A very nice lady greeted us and gave us a brief history. We were free to wander around on our own.
This place gets a 4 mostly for the delightful train enthusiasts who are here to talk to visitors and each other about their love of model trains. There are several models running, and a very elaborate Christmas train room, but the folksy train guys are the main draw. Come ready to visit and chat.
Very, very boring and overpriced. I went for the Halloween tour and it was not scary or fun. $21.00 a person was just too high for the experience.
I liked the fact that I was part of the crew that did the roof 😀

Took the family to see Spaceballs at The Miller House, and had a blast! Staff was wonderful and the House is absolutely beautiful. It's a must see in Hagerstown.

A great little hidden gem. A nice place for history buffs. Staff is very knowledgeable about artifacts and owner of the house. Friendly staff as well. They had a craft going on while I visited, create your own Christmas ornament for children.
