I can’t believe it’s been a couple of years since we had gone out here, my google photos pop up occasional reminders- friends of our family had shared with us that Twig was going to be recounting some of her experiences growing up at Craighead- we had an absolutely wonderful afternoon there, listening to her tell some life- filled stories that were so wonderful and genuine- this little museum that is being restored is so wonderful, I am excited to take our kids back in the summer and we meant to go out again but our schedules are quite chaotic- if you have a chance, the grounds are beautiful, right on the treasure of Yellow Breeches; such an important family to the formation of natural sciences and literature, so glad we had this exceptional experience and we are looking forward to attending future programs that we can occasionally fit into our schedule

Went to go experience the land for the first time, was entirely respectful for the fact we were mourning our friend, and we were questioned and kicked off the property by the owners for no reason at all.... Maybe if the property is off limits and private property, then you should post it at the entrance and not along the waterway 🤷🏻♂️

Very nice and attentive volunteer staff.

Nice little museum, and free. Everything is displayed nicely, and the text to read is kept short and concise. There are a few interactive displays as well. There is currently a railroading in the valley exhibit in addition to the 2nd floor museum (July 2023).

Beautiful gardens. House is being restored.

Current railroad displays are very descriptive of our county’s railroad history in visuals and verbiage. Worth taking time for a walk through history.

Incredible wee nature park with educational classes for all ages. Super history here along the Yellow Breeches Creek by the new bridge.

Great place! Free museum right downtown. Great displays. Not just a bunch of junk shoved together. This museum is nicely apportioned. Well worth a look. Plan on 45 minutes give or take.

A wonderful hidden gem in carlisle… I enjoy the interactive exhibits! I especially like the printing press, but it wasn’t working super well when I was there. Certain areas need some TLC, but it’s an I credible place to experience a piece of Pennsylvania history.

It was awesome, loved the material in there. The clocks were beautiful. Will definitely be going back there.

Awesome fishing spot!

Parked in the parking lot until right around before dusk. Apparently their definition of dusk is a little early. Caught them checking out my cars and when asked to leave I agreed saying I totally missed the sign, it was my fault. When I was about turn around and leave the 12 year old daughter got in my face, and screamed at me saying she’d call the cops on me for... agreeing to leave..? My father and I left and then we caught them watching us outside our family’s home. Today we learned they called the cops saying we “hit” one of them w our cars and we were trespassing for “staying after dark” in the parking lot. We stayed no later than “dusk.” The police are taking no action, seems like this might happen a lot. I would stay far away.

Great little museum ,detailing the history of Cumberland county a must for any history enthusiast. And it's free.

Excellent site to relax along the Yellow Breeches Creek and explore the natural wonders of Boiling Springs. The historic site also has some literature posted and can be fantastic for fishing too.

I live in the Midwest and I can not be traveling to Cumberland County all the time to do research. It would be nice if they would digitized the various Cumberland County Newspapers. If you live there great, but when you live far away not so good. They are always sending me notices to contribute to them and I would if they had some resources I could use. Shippensburg, Harrisburg and Gettysburg have their Newspapers online. It is a great research tool. They say they are premier.

Stumbled on to this after a visit to the History Shop/Cumberland Valley Visitor Center around the corner. Check out the exhibits ... especially upstairs. Great way to while away and morning .... then go down the street to your choice of restaurants/coffee spots/shopping. Vintage small American small town.
