I went there on Saturday but it was almost empty. There was no event at that time so I can only access 1/4 of the museum. So the entry was free.
They have printing and writing history from all over the world and a dedicated section for Japan's history as well.

Nice place to learn and enjoy. A museum that every graphic designer must visit
Visited w my family in early Dec. Browsed the wonderful gallery before going upstairs to the paper workshop. Although it was a weekend and there was no work going on, there were signages which tried to explain the paper-making/dying processes, and a kind elderly lady (who seemed like she could be the boss) came by to try to explain things to us, albeit in Japanese which we could not understand. She was v enthusiastic and it looked she really wanted us to enjoy our visit. I believe she strongly recommended we go visit the shop to attend the Director’s demo, which we did. The Director was in the house (shop) and he was v generous and patient, and tried hard to get everyone involved (including the foreigners) as he did demo after demo of simple yet refreshing origami items at his desk. Some of the items we got to make on the spot was a simple page-corner bookmark and a Christmas (tree) ‘ornament’. 👍👍👍 So glad we did the trek from the train station to visit.
Amazing shop that we discovered by accident. The origami master is fun and loves to talk. His skills are incredible! We had a demo by chance and it was mind-blowing.

An amazing place, 4 generations dedicated to hand-dying beautiful paper. Staff were friendly and particularly accommodating to the children (who loved watching the live demonstration). The gallery is definitely worth checking out, as well as the workshop.
A lovely place for origami geeks like me. There’s also plenty of other types of papercraft, since they have a paper making studio! I saw the gallery on the first and second floors, and the origami and papercraft store on the third floor. I really enjoyed seeing the origami displays which feature absolutely ingenious models, and the ways in which origami is made into beautiful cards and gifts that just about anyone can make. The origami kits are especially nice because they feature beautiful choices of paper along with diagrams that I’m pretty sure are unique to this place. They allow cuts and glue in their origami designs, which I didn’t mind but it might come as a shock to some. In fact, traditional Japanese origami has allowed cutting the paper in ingenious ways, and starting from unusual shapes (for example, the Kayaragusa/Kan-no-mado dragonfly). There are still plenty of models on display that don’t involve cutting if that’s not your thing. For foreign visitors, this is an excellent place to get origami books and types of paper unique to Japan, along with getting to admire some truly creative and ingenious designs!
A must visit if you like origami. The exhibition are pretty limited, but it’s free. They also have an extensive shop upstairs where you can buy various books, washi and origami paper, cd recording, and if you’re lucky you’re gonna get to meet the origami master himself providing free lessons.

Truly a feat for the eyes! After looking at all the different origami displays, there was a man there responsible for writing the origami books. I was in awe watching him fold and not even pay attention what he was doing. While talking to my aunts he came out with a pair of lips that opened and closed, I was shook. He also made a pair of maple leaves (upon hearing I'm from Canada) and then a golden goose from Jack and the Beanstalk. Amazing! And it's FREE!

Highly recommended regardless of your background, but of course for those interested in the history of printing, graphic design and art in general.

Very nice place to visit. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Museum (General Exhibit) shows the history of printing in Japan. The workshop with printing press(e-mail registration required) was very fun. Thank you
Brilliant!! We booked the printing experience. We were the only people there so our amazing guide took us through every different stage of equipment at our own pace (in English). It was a lovely personal and informative experience. The museum takes you through every era of printmaking in Japan and the history and influences happening at that time - all with English subtitles. This was my favourite art gallery/museum in Tokyo, would hugely recommend to anyone with an interest in art and/or history.
Museum itself is not big, but if you start reading descriptions and watch videos, it will take some time. Almost all videos has english subtitles, so you can easily know about all the history of printing and what impact it had on live.
Not bad for very cheap admission. Quiet place.
Pretty small and quiet museum. The 1F has a free gallery that displays a print exhibit or some variety. The B1F has the museum proper, which is small and, even on a weekend, rather quiet. If you time your visit right, they occasionally have printing workshops you can participate in (on weekends they are at 3pm; Japanese only). All in all it’s a nice place to visit if you’re already in the area, but not necessarily worth going out of your way for.
