Better movies usually come here in comparison with Civics...and it's cleaner.

Excellent atmosphere, large reclining chairs, helpful staff and very clean smaller theater rooms. This place is by far my favorite cinema in Auckland.
A Great local Cinema with Clarence Road Eatery next door. Across the road The Engine Room Restaurant.
We hosted a private event here. The team went above and beyond to cater for us. They were exceptionally friendly and great communicators.
Cute little cinema tucked underneath the city library. Great selection of old/current movies and a great third place for avid film fans or just anyone wanting to catch a $5 Wednesday movie. Only qualm is how inaccessible it is - have to walk down several flights of stairs, no lifts
So much to love about the Lido: great movie selections, really comfortable seats, excellent ice creams and refreshments, loyalty card with a movie free after 10 movies. I like popping in for a latte and enjoying their magazines in front of the fire. Love the flowers in the downstairs’ toilets. It’s the many little things Richard the owner does to create this haven.

I love this cinema, but I wish the seats were clean. Truely not for the faint hearted 🤢 I did try to email this feedback less publicly but listed email did not work.
A good place, always featuring classic movies. And the Wednesday Deal it's amazing.
This is a very cool cinema if you can locate a parking slot allowing for 90 minutes. It's my place to watch an exotic but excellent movie. Seats are comfortable, staff are nice, toilets are clean, nice coffee, even can read the Herald while waiting. The film selection is not the mainstream blockbuster type, but almost always about human spirits. My favorite chillout place, you can hardly go wrong with their selection, perhaps more so for the mature audience. The nearby shops are nice too.
Love a cheap night Tuesday at the Lido. $14 tickets and $10 for a generous pour of wine. There's lovely spaces to relax in before the movie and the theatre seats are large and comfortable.

Lido is such a great place to go watch a movie. Purchase a glass of wine prior and one to take in and you have typically paid 1/2 the price you would pay at a restaurant or bar. (Nice wine also). But more to the point is they have a nice waiting area, clean bathrooms and clean cinemas. Sound quality is excellent and seats comfortable. Highly recommend for a date night or watch a great movie by yourself.
Screen is small. Guy behind the counter is rude and obnoxious. The numbers on most of the seats have worn off so people were very confused where they were supposed to sit and some were telling others they were in the wrong seats, but no one really knew. Very unpleasant dealing with that. Wouldn’t come back for that reason alone.
FLEA BITES
Both my friend and I were severely bitten by fleas after watching a movie at this cinema in Jan 2024. They have also taken their time getting back to my complaint.
The cinema is also unkept with lots of insects flying around and unclean surroundings.

I love the Lido Cinema! We live locally and I have been coming here for years. Took my husband over the weekend for his 'first' visit... he was very impressed and loved the lazaboy chairs... he will be back for sure. : )
Consistently busy little independent theatre 🎥 Nice familiar atmosphere and really well positioned with Clarence Rd Eatery alongside. Make sure you allow time to find a park, and expect a queue for tickets.

Is wheelchair accessible and staff could not have been kinder or more supportive in making sure we were comfortable.
However. The access from lift to the theatre was difficult because the hallways were littered with furniture etc.
And
The theatre is an old one and only place wheelchair users could access was at the very front. Difficult physically if you are longsighted or have neck/spine issues making looking up difficult.
Despite the issues I would go again. 💖

The staff were friendly. I was being dumb and had bought tickets for something two weeks from now. Only found out when I had already got there. The website seemed very strict and said no changes, but fortunately the people there are much nicer in real life.
The rest of the experience was alright. The kind of movies they show is good, including some good reruns, but the interior is starting to look a little worn for wear if you ask me. The chairs in particular, although very comfy, looked a little seedy and could use a deep clean.

Loved the vibe of this cinema! I’m dropping two stars because the seats are SO uncomfortable :( I was wriggling around through the entire movie and it was hard to concentrate because of it! Popcorn only comes in one size which is small, wish it were bigger. They play old classic movies which is cool.
Great cinema playing both recent and classic films. The fe l of an old cinema and great boutique menu to match. I really enjoy it.
I enjoy rialto Cinema especially since I have a museum membership to use there 😀 I have usually always encountered good customer service. Menu is good. Lovely atmosphere.

An overall enjoyable experience but no points for the coffee making at the Cafe
The food court is just empty with no explanation. Aroma is amazing, but I miss when this place had Nando’s. Bring Nando’s and McDonald’s and this place would be alive and well again.

We were going to grab something to eat before the movie it was just part 5, and everything was closed except for one Indian place.
The staff were very friendly and helpful despite being very busy. The theaters were clean and comfortable, and the selection of movies was much wider than most cinemas.
I go here for $5.00 Wednesday which is pretty awesome as mainstream flicks are sometimes screened and you can then watch it for $5.00 (or $6.00 if you book your ticket online). I tend to buy my ticket in person and just go a little earlier to secure my favourite seat. Popcorn, ice cream and other snacks and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are also available to purchase. There is no lift unfortunately.
Comfortable seating however the theater had not been cleaned after the previous screening, so we were sitting on popcorn. Other patrons had to remove wine glasses before they sat in the allocated seats.

Went and saw the secrets of dumbledoor
I had a large popcorn a kumara fries and a coke to share with my partner. The cinemas were nice and clean and the bathrooms very tidy. Good experience and the lady at the counter was friendly and welcoming

Amazing cinema , very comfy seats and yummy ice creams , the movies was so good and would defo come back here to watch another movie again soon , great to see that the theater has a restuarant close by to have a bite to eat before the movie , parking can get a little hard at some stages not to sure if they have dedicated movie parking but would be worth a ask , the price was made even better once we found out they were on grabone , so instead of paying upwards of say $ 15 for a ticket , we played 12.50 $ each and got the ticket to the movie and an ice cream for $ 12.50 each which was amazing value for money , it was very busy when we went so there were a few lines of people wanting to get tickets and food I would suggest maybe going a little bit early to try your best to avoid these lines , it's great to see that they also have a bar at the cinema and you are allowed to take in your wine glasses to the cinema to enjoy your drink while the movie is playing, there were to may as playing before the movie actually started which meant instead of the movie starting at 730 as originally stated it ended up starting at 745 which was a bit disappointing , less ads would be ideal , especially on a busy night, thoroughly enjoyed the experience and cant wait to go back there again soon I hope lol
Excellent cinema, has a traditional cinema theme, but very modern facilities. The screens and sound quality is good as always. The cinema seats are more on the floor, not very tiered so you need to bend your neck more to see the screen.
An extremely spacious lobby was the first thing I noticed, followed shortly by the classic cinema decor from carpet to signage ... Idk if this was a recent thing or if it's been like this for decades, maybe even both. There's a completely separate bar room from the main snacks and ticket counter, and then the bathrooms look somewhat new yet I think part of the men's was under repair plus was very dimly lit. As for the theatre, it had what I believe were decent leather seats from memory, but not stadium seating (wasn't an issue when there was nobody at our screening).
Spectacular movie! I went to see JOKER. I thought it was brilliant.. I understand.. my movie choice had nothing to do with the theater. The theater was wonderful too. Staff: helpful, friendly, smiley. Atmosphere: exciting, positive, happy. Toilets: classy, clean, great facilities. Definitely returning.
It's not super modern, slick or really flash and it doesn't always run seamlessly - it's more homely, comfortable and caring.

They have their Silver Club for 'Seniors' like me, a movie nibbles and Bar spot served by smiling helpful people, a good Web presence and Hockey Pokey icecream. ❤️
Tucked away at the end of Queen Street in Birkenhead Point on the North Shore, this endearing Cinema is well worth many visits.

Currently enjoying the comedies of the French Film Festival at the Bridgeway. None of the reclining seats that my bad back prefers and the screens are not large. .. but it's very 'comfy' and greatly assisted by caring staffers and tasty goodies.
Well worth a regular visit for genuinely interesting 🎥s. 👀

Big Hint: If you don't want to stand in a loooong queue for each of your movies, buy and pay for all your tickets in advance so you can go directly to your cinema seats as soon as you arrive. 😊

You would be thinking why is there so many dog photos in this review? The reason is that it was the first time dogs were allowed to watch movies with their owners and this event took place at Academy Cinemas in Auckland City. It was a full house and what a cool movie it was 'Secrets Life of Pet 2'. All the dogs and their owners had so much fun. You wouldn't believe how quite it was throughout the movie. You could buy ticket for your fur baby or they could sit on your lap or on the floor. I believe there will be more movies for the owners to bring their pet. Ticket was $20. So cool. As you can drr from the picture there were all types of dogs. This historic moment was covered by local TV station as well. Would you bring your dog next time if there is a movie where you can bring your fur baby?
Hadn't been here for years and took my 2 year old for her first cinema experience. Went for an early mid morning session to avoid queues. Clean and tidy. Comfy chairs. It's a shame the time out aracade has been removed and found there to be too many adverts prior to the movie.
Nice venue, building etc. but the seats weren't tiered vertically - instead the screen was mounted high, so you have to tilt your head back regardless of how far back you're sitting (cinema 7). Sound was good across all frequencies although it seemed to lack spatial depth. Roomy and comfy leather seats, plenty of legroom. Fine for shorter movies i think.
This place is great, we almost always go here because it's not too busy, so you get tickets last minute. It's not a mad rush, everything is calm, the place is actually quite nice. The seats are comfy, although the screens are a bit smaller.
Lovely cinema that was nicely refurbished. Pitty the staff aren't the best and the cinema rooms aren't very well cleaned! We found popcorn from the previous session all over the seats and floor soon as we were seated. Pretty half ass job if you ask me. The person collecting the tickets also wasn't very friendly. A simple greeting such as "hello, how are you" would be simple courtesy. People pay money for an experience and it's gonna be memorable - whether it be good or bad.
