This place is so fun. I recommend going if you live in the area, especially if you are with friends

Basketball court needs serious TLC // chasms in the backtop, bent rims // playground area is nice // the majority of the reviews are not for this park. A lot of wrong "local guides"

Google always gets their stuff wrong. Here, for example, they are asking me to rate Basilone Park (which I've never been in), instead of the Raritan River Greenway (which I've been in, a lot), just because the entrance to the Greenway (and the parking lot where I was parked), is right across the street, from Basilone Park! No offense to John, our amazing great war hero and patriot, but I've really never been in the park, named for him, but rather, just across the street. I guess I can see why there's some confusion here. I saw a photo of a swimming pool in this park, and wondered why I'd never seen it, until I looked on the map and realized that that park isn't exactly where I was, though close by. And to further confuse everybody, Google has photos taken on the Greenway (like of the canal and the old bridge over it), that are really part of the Greenway, and not part of the Basilone Park. Then, to really confuse everyone, the Greenway, which is a phenomenal hiking/biking trail, starts in Raritan (home of John Basilone), goes along the Raritan River, and keeps on going into the Bradley Gardens section of Bridgewater Township, where it becomes a big part of Duke Island Park, which is a Somerset County Park, not a local municipal park, like Basilone Park. So, you got it now? Yeah, total confusion, I know--unless you've actually lived around there, for years, like me. At any rate, perhaps Basilone Park is good (although I wouldn't know--I never went in it because it always looked too small, and mostly for kids), but the Raritan River Greenway and Duke Island Park, and the whole area along the river, and the trail that runs alongside it for miles, are SPECTACULAR and BEAUTIFUL and AMAZING. (But, what do I know? I only like it because I'm an Eagle Scout, woodsman, animal lover, herbal medicinalist, and avid nature lover...) Of course, while you're at it, you might wanna check out the 700+ acres of land, set aside on top of the mountain, in another part of Bridgewater Township (the Martinsville section), in Washington Valley Park, spread out on both sides of Chimney Rock Road, as you head up the mountain. The hawk watch is a spectacular scenic overlook, and Buttermilk Falls is as good as Watkins Glen, in upstate NY--yet not nearly as far away. The scenery in both Washington Valley Park, and Washington Valley Park East (where the Falls and overlook are located), is priceless, natural habitat, on top of the mountain, preserved by the government, as Somerset County Park. (At least our insane property taxes in NJ, are doing something good, right?)

Nice park. Even though 40 mins away from my home, i visited this thrice. Thanks to my teammates who organized get together in this park. This has very good tar biking trail, walking trail beside the river. Plenty of grounds, parking, open space, not so crowded, good air quality.

This place is great! Very nice and peaceful walk or bike ride. I even spotted turtles and chipmunks.

This is a great park adjacent to Duke Island Park. You can follow the paved path that runs along the river to Duke Island or take to path along the canal, West to Duke Island or East to the Basilone Statue. Either option provides a good, quiet stretch of the legs.

Nice place to walk around enjoy ing the wheater.

This is the East end of Duke island Park. There is parking here for about 10 cars. The paved trail starts here. No restroom at this spot. Easy access to the river. The road is one way, so no access off old York road. Have to go around the block. The history at the monument is amazing. He was a real hero.
