The museum is a beacon of contemporary glass art amidst of the historical charm of the Tianzifang arts and crafts enclave since it is located in the neigbourhood and near to the French Concession Area. This museum is not just a visual spectacle but is also a profound exploration into the depth and diversity of the Liuli arts and crafts, marking itself as Asia's first museum dedicated entirely to this art form.
Many of the displays are nice and unique, in various colours and stand out! If you are into liuli or glass related arts and crafts, this place will be a must visit for you.

A very unique and informative museum in Shanghai. At first I went to Shanghai Museum but fully booked so cannot get the ticket. Then I tried to visit this museum and have a pleasant surprise.
A lot of students and some tour come here. It is a nice museum to visit.

This is a pleasant surprise for us. As a native growing up in SH, it never occurred to me to visit this place until coming back after 9 years. The exhibits are very well laid out, mostly having English translations (so my American friends can enjoy as well). It does a fantastic job showing Shanghai’s past, present and future through many models, pictures and interactive exhibits. We spent 2 hours here but felt we could have spent more. Upon finishing the tour, it made me proud of being born in this amazing city.
This is a must-visit if you are interested on learning the history and future of China and Shanghai. There are many exhibits to explore. Foreigners can enter for free by showing their passport. Don't miss out on this interesting place if you have time on Shanghai.

You can get one of the best views to Lujiazui（ 陆家嘴), including the Oriental Pearl TV tower. It was not so crowded compared to other spots on the Bund. I would totally recommend to visit for taking pictures in the early evening.
Interesting exhibition on the history and ideal future of urban planning in Shanghai. Tickets are free which you can pick up outside the entrance at the reception - you'll need to show your passport. Some of the exhibits are visually stunning, although a lot of the info is only available in Chinese, so you may get more out of the experience with the audio guide.
Definitely worth a visit to understand China’s and Shanghai’s roadmap for 2030 and 2050 as well as a good dose of Chinese propaganda. Lots of innovation planned without much scientific backing. Rent the audio guide and plan on two hours to be able to view each exhibit which spans several floors.

Great museum. I gave only 4 stats, just because it is very hard to reserve entrance ticket for weekend. The ticket is free, but you need to reserve it via museum website. You will need Chinese telephone number for that. They open slots in week before, but all slots for Saturday and Sunday are immediately reserved. I visited this museum twice. My second visit was not so successful: only several halls were open, others were closed for renewing. Very often there is a special exposition on the ground floor, and it could be not free.
Very nice park near xintiandi where you can see crowds dancing in the morning and evenings. There are little lakes and it has a very relaxing atmosphere.
Small yet interesting museum worths a visit, especially if you are looking for a place somewhere silent to avoid crowd of Nanjingdonglu.

This museum is the largest we have visited in Shanghai so far. We spent a whole day there. It has four stories, with entire wings dedicated to chinese bronze, jade, calligraphy, money, ceramics, furniture and Chinese paintings.
The most fun part is its gift shop. It has replicas of the exhibits available to purchase (vases, beautiful tea cups, paintings, even bronze containers) if you can afford it.

Amazing historical park at the side of Huangpu riv. looks now absolutely modern and beatiful. It is must for travellers to get a great view of Shanghai. One of the best time to visit - late evening
Honestly the best spot to get a great „Shanghai view“ and a must for tourists.
In winter the benches are heated so you can enjoy the view longer. There are a bunch of nice restaurants nearby and restrooms are available.
I recommend starting here and walking south along the river to see more of the Skyscrapers and the Bund, or west along Suzhou creek (the small river) to discover old Shanghai.

This park is established more than 130 years ago. Its first name was "public garden" before World War II as it was the first free park for the Chinese. I saw the view of the skyscrapers in Shanghai at this place.
The Bund (80 feet tall) is in between the Huangpu River. The bund depicting three rifle barrels that are made of concrete was erected as the monument to the public heroes of Shanghai such as the monument of the People's Heroes, the Bund History Memorial Hall and large relief sculptures. There are some coffee shops here too. I visited this place during the day, but I heard that the nights of this park are amazing.

Big pot shaped building just at the side of famous Peoples Square of Shanghai had enormous collections depicting Chinese history. The building architect was inspired by the priceless big circular tripod pot with two ears bronze vessels called Da Ke Ding from Zhou dynasty (1046-771 BC). Inside of the building looked glistening with granites, marbles & art works. A lot of rooms were exhibiting various periods of Chinese cultures & arts. Basically, it was a modern world class museum in ancient style building showing historical priceless Chinese cultural relics.

Now the park looked modern & beautiful. The Bund was on the west & beautiful Lujiazui on east, in between was the Huangpu River. About 80 feet tall, depicting three rifle barrels, made of concrete was erected as the monument to the public heroes of Shanghai. The pearl tower, Shanghai tower & classical buildings of The Bund & cruising ships on Huangpu River looked beautiful especially at evening from the park.,
The last time I saw an art exhibition here was in 2016 and I remember the artist was called Yunxia Zhou. The gallery and exhibition was super good , best gallery in Shanghai 👍🏻

Great view on the bund with great dinner served by Ce La Vi
My very favorite place, quiet place with ponds and fountains, every weekend accompanied by people singing and dancing. I used to live around 200 meters away, therefore I had opportunity visiting park daily... if you like karaoke, dancing, chatting to people or even just a stroll with breakfast, this is the place where all can be offered.
Gorgeous park with a rose garden and fountain. Perfect for people watching if you’re a tourist as there’s people practicing martial arts and traditional calligraphy
Nice to see some displays from up and coming artists. Some of the video displays are quite useful as both a visual spectacle, and as a learning tool for when I work on my mandarin.
Loved the sculpture section on the ground floor, the ceramics was pretty good. I didn’t really get into the ethnic section and beyond learning that China had weird spade shaped coins the rest I could have missed and not noticed.
Pick your visiting time carefully, the tour guide said that the queues the previous day were over an hour long, on my day no queue delay at all.

Wonderful park. The space is clean and well used by both locals and visitors. Don’t miss the rose garden. You can grab a coffee and relax after a long day of shopping.

Relatively small but beautiful with taste design museum!
Really amazing art gallery, we loved the exhibition. Not too big, into took us about 2 hours to see everything. No English descriptions next to the artwork, but if you scan the QR code next to the image title on your WeChat it will show a few details about the artist.

This is a really well kept retreat in the busy city and a perfect place to spend either a few minutes or a number of hours relaxing. There’s loads of seating and a good mix of grass areas and flower beds with a number of statues giving plenty to admire. It’s a busy area during the day and offers lots of opportunities for people watching - groups of youngsters playing card games on the paths, couples singing by the water feature, and collections of locals practising on their varying musical instruments; it’s certainly a varied mix of local culture.
Good value if you're into glass art. It's really easy to get to via public transportation. Check before hand what exhibits they have. Right now they have an exhibit with more modern glass pieces.
Complete rip off at 80 yuan. It's actually mind boggling that they would charge this amount compared to other museums. I have no problem spending money for entrance to a museum, but not for something of this quality. It's a small museum over 3 floors, with an uninspiring street art exhibition on when I went. No popular at all; there were two other people in there while I was there. The venue is pretty rundown as well. You'd be better off going to the Natural History Museum for 30 yuan, or if you'd like to see some actual world class art, go to the Powerstation of Art for 60 yuan.

Exhibit is small but very interesting and presentation is good. The surrounding park is really nice and quiet also.
Look inside the history ofnold times. On the museum are many exhibitions with various things to see as coins, status, pottery and many many more. You will spend here few hours and if you like museums in general this is right place to visit. To know what to expect I put examples of exhibition.
Perfect place to relax. There are a lot of elders playing games, dancing and talking with each other. It's a nice place to have a break from the vibrant city and maybe strike up a conversation with a local.
The best sightseeing place in the city center, in the riverside we could seeing the modern highrise building around town

The Museum is a very well curated collection of amazing items from China's long history.
Its free and open every day except Monday. Tour guides will advise that a passport is needed for entry but we were able to enter with no ID at all.
You can get a free (English) audio guide - for this you'll need to leave a 400 Yuan refundable deposit (or leave some ID such as drivers licence or ...yes.. your passport!)
Its an oasis of cool and quiet and you can easily spend a few hours here marvelling at the age and beauty of the exhibits. Good printed guides in Chinese and English.
Guided tours offered but with the audio guide I think you better off doing it yourself and spending time on the things that intrigue you the most.
There is a good cafe inside (with good coffee!) and on each floor you will find a souvenir shop with some good (easily packed) treasures to take home :)

Nearest Metro train station is People's Square (a fair walk just the same which can be tiring in the hot, sticky weather).

This is a must see every time I am in Shanghai. The best of Chinese modern art. BTW the address is actually the third floor on "Three on the Bund" and the entrance is on Guangdong Road and it looks like the photo below. The position on Google Map is a bit off.

Really great place to see a view of the skyscrapers in Shanghai. A really popular spot at night for when the lights are all turned on for the evening. There is a monument at this park and a few vendors that sell soft drinks. A few cafes on the lower level. Not much else here. PS - personal drones are prohibited
Ticket costs 50RMB (really high for a museum). Gallery is on the second thru fifth floor. Three floors were empty and they said the empty space was art... what kind of scam is this? Looking at the other reviews, seems like they are artists. Coincidence? Probably not. Stay away from this scam and save yourself some money.
I agree with those who've said to go at night. It's beautiful at any time, but going at night has the tall buildings lit up with their lightshow, it's usually cooler, and the breeze is nice. There are usually food and drink venders along the way, so you can get snacks at nearly any time.

Very solid contemporary art venue in Shanghai. Good shows and amazing space. Do not miss the rooftop terrace with its views over the river and Pudong. Entry ticket can be redeemed for a free coffee upstairs.

I went through this museum in 2002 and marveled at the historical dioramas that were on display there. Unfortunately there were signs that no photographs could be taken inside the museum proper so I don't have good documentation.
It was clear that the dioramas had been around for decades and I gather the the museum was an "Indoctrination museum" aimed at Chinese students and citizens, but with signs that had recently been translated into English (among other international languages).
What I found amazing was the dichotomy between the nationalist communist propagandistic words used in the signage and the local pride evident in Shanghai and its history as a cosmopolitan and international center of commerce and culture.
I gather that Shanghai has long been viewed with suspicion by much of the rest of China, given that it was opened by the Western Powers and Japan. It's morals and ethics were suspect -- perhaps like some of us view Las Vegas.
The signs would read like, "Here in Shanghai in 1883, the first modern waterworks in all of Asia was built by the capitalist running dog imperialist forces from England." and
"Here we see a model of the first electrical lighting system complete with streetlights built by the European Imperialist Capitalist Running Dogs in 1884."
There were revealing photos of a bank building with a sign in English carved into the stone edifice reading,"The Japanese Bank of Tai-Wan" with a detailed history of the imperialist Japanese and the modern banking system they introduced and how the bank personal were overworked and lead to the first strike by workers in China.
It was all very thought provoking. I suspect that they displays have been revised substantially since the Olympics, but I would love to see photos of those dioramas and signs posted on the internet. History should be preserved even when it doesn't serve propaganda agendas.

Nice little art museum + great architecture building ! I fell in love with this little art museum, the arts exhibitions are on 5 floors, big space + good lightning, the last floor is a small coffee + a terrace with a nice view on Shanghai skyline, you will just love it. The cost is only 15 rmb, you should consider visit it, if you love art + architecture like me, enjoy !
