Like a walk in the park, this place is relaxing. Dog walkers and picnickers enjoy the trees, grass and fountains at this gem in the heart of downtown Westerly.

A stroll through an "ancient" park is an experience that is becoming difficult to find. This nook of older trees has made a morning walk delightful. The gentleman playing a wooden flute near the man-made pond had a calming note to the hectic week of the past. The walk was long enough and short enough to be just right. The name tags on the trees also made choosing the plant for future endeavors. The pond at the liberty has been marked by someone who may have no or just some respect for others' enjoyments, the down side is that taking a marker to something that is not owned by you is disrespectful.

A beautiful day in the park - what more can you ask for? We had a lovely stroll and stopped to sit and admire the beauty of the place for a bit. Relaxation achieved.

My visits to Wilcox Park have been enjoyable. The park has always been clean, grounds well kept, and feels safe. While one could jog here for exercise, I recommend checking out the nearby library, then relaxing by a fountain with a book or friend, or take a walk and the pause at the monuments to reflect upon some of the history of our nation, and the local area of Westerly, Rhode Island.

Beautiful location to park boat and enjoy beautiful, sandy beach right near Taylor Swifts house!

Great place to stay cool on a warm day. Enjoyed walking around the park, trees and plants are labeled

Well-built trail system. Good flow, nice features. Almost no climbing, so it’s a nice change of pace from many places in New England.

Nice beach, but look out for the birds, they're territorial

Deliciously fragrant roses frame the slightly challenging sandy path to a gorgeous beach perfect for walking and shell collecting. Always have a wonderful visit, worth the drive from CT.

Our local park is really a gem. Really well maintained, nice to visit year round, and lots of events in the warm weather.

This is a beautiful place to watch the sunset. You can walk down the road to the Lighthouse or you can drive if you are over sixty five years old. The road is narrow So drive slow and be aware of oncoming cars. It has a great view of the beaches. And for all the Swifties, you can see "The Holiday House" while you enjoy the views. It is a beautiful, historic place to take the whole family. You could even bring lunch and have a picnic on the grassy area infront of the lighthouse.

Anyone else feel like this place is haunted??? Had 2 experiences where I felt so ...

Beautiful beach walk, a little over a mile out and same back. Beautiful views of Long Island Sound, and Block Island can be seen from the bluffs. Note: no bathrooms or porta potties, so plan accordingly 😉

Beautiful, classic city park. Beautifully designed. Clean, right next to the library. Definitely worth a walk when visiting Westerly

Nice easy flowy trails. More for the novice than the expert rider.

Napatree Point Conservation Area is a stunning beauty spot. You will be full of wonder, especially at sunset. The sunset slowly descends at the tip of the Conservation area. Standing on the shore, you feel embraced by the sea on one side and a peaceful cove on the other; a pretty wildlife grassland divides the two. Meanwhile, sandpipers on their zippy little threadlike legs are scurrying back and forth with the waves, like a game of tag. Cormorants and seagulls bob along the swells like little back cut out shapes in an orange glow. The colors are sublime, the sky going from beautiful soft pastel pinks, grey blues and white, to the fiery hues of the sun--fuschia, orange, and fire-red. If you linger long enough, you might just see a full moon on the opposite side, like we did. What was especially beautiful was the way the sky opposite the sunset reflected the paler hues of the fireball once again, soft purples and pinks. There's a really pretty spot just at the crest of the sandy dune just as you enter the conservation area, so if you don't want to walk too far, this is a pretty and peaceful viewing place too. However, the best views are from the beach. When you leave, the light from the moon trickling over the water is gorgeous and the buildings along the cove are especially pretty. We visited at the end of October, and it was lovely.

10/2023 - had a hard time finding the entrance to the lighthouse, there is a sign which encouraged folks to walk down. It indicates for elderly and handicapped to be the ones to be able to take their car down the one lane road.
The lighthouse is privately owned therefore not able to get close, fenced and signed private property.
It was quite windy so coats would be wise to bring where this area is a peninsula.
Many people fishing for stripers along the very rocky with large jagged rocks shore line.

So serene. Loved that they had benches along the path to sit and enjoy the beautiful day.
The park is very dog friendly as long as the dogs are on a leash. Many canines and owners enjoying the park when I was there. While the map mentioned a restroom it was locked when I was there.

Visited October 1st, so we were able to park for free on the street and walk down to the beach. A beautiful location and the shops were adorable (though we just passed by; most of them were closed when we arrived).
Not the place I would pick to do a "beach day" (since I can't help but compare it to my beloved Jersey Shore) but we did enjoy walking along the point for a bit and seeing the birds, boats, and enjoying some autumn sunshine.

Beautiful venue for a wedding. Nice, helpful staff/volunteers. They have a lot of tables and chairs, linens, fridge, freezer, ovens, bar area, stage area, sound system, and disco ball.

Beautiful, picturesque, serene conservation area surrounded by a lovely beach and coastal town.

Such a lovely and beautiful park. Every city should have one of these.

During the summer you do have to pay to park, but it’s a beautiful walk, great beach and the shore birds are awesome.

Wilcox Park in Westerly, Rhode Island, is an absolute gem! The open space it offers is simply breathtaking, providing a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The well-maintained water fountains add a soothing touch to the surroundings, making it a tranquil oasis.
The abundance of trees creates a picturesque landscape, offering shade and a sense of serenity as you stroll along the paths. What I love the most is its convenient proximity to downtown, making it an easily accessible retreat for anyone seeking a moment of relaxation.
One fantastic aspect of Wilcox Park is its dog-friendly policy, which makes it the perfect place for dog owners to enjoy quality time with their furry friends. Additionally, the presence of benches throughout the park invites visitors to sit back, unwind, and savor the beauty of nature.
The large pond with fish and turtles is a delightful sight to behold, adding a touch of wildlife charm to the park. Whether you're a nature enthusiast or simply seeking a peaceful spot to read a book, Wilcox Park is an ideal destination to immerse yourself in nature's wonders while still being close to the heart of the town.

We've been sailing to the harbor at Watch Hill for about 15 years now. It is a safe anchorage and just a quick hop over the marked trails on the dunes brings you to thus stunning, uncrowded Beach. The further away from town, the less people there are. If you're a people watcher this is not the place for you. If you love privacy then you will adore this place. The beach has lovely sand and the water is so clear. There are occasionally people, including us who will walk down to the point at the end where there are gorgeous rock formations. It's so fascinating, especially for the little ones to watch and catch the little critters at low tide. We just love this place!

Love this place. Is very beautiful, good beach strips, best sunsets are scene here although you do have to walk up the sandy hill (can be tiresome). Parking can get full, and sometimes there is flooding can occur. Does get super dark when leaving. The stores are cute.

If you want to see incredible sunset and enjoy ocean breeze you should come here. You can park your car in the city, walk around the fairy tale town, have an ice cream or a cold drink and come to the lighthouse to enjoy the beautiful sunset. Also you can see a sunset from the city streets or beach, or enjoy a diner with amazing view on sunset.

This historic building has been completely restored and has a fascinating and comprehensive museum highlighting the lives and traditions of the Westerly community. Most notably, the museum features military artifacts, including uniforms, but there are lots of other interesting exhibits and stories on display, too, including the Armory’s own history as a community gathering place over the years.

A bit hard to find as sign for the road says private drive, no vehicles but walkers welcome. People still drive in there. We walked as it was a nice scenic walk. Lighthouse was nice, beautiful scenic views from every side of the lighthouse.

There is so much cool local history in such a small area. Non-profit that can always use help and money. Great group of people running it.

Nice hiking trails

Great conditions only slightly buggy by the water

Not much of a trail but a pretty sight and good birding

Love it here. Dogs welcome all day off season (after labor day til end of April.) On season before 8 am and after 6pm. Must be on leash. Gorgeous 😍 every single time. Consider donating to their conservation efforts if you are able. Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!! A must see.

Great trails clearly marked.

Nice day walking on the beach with the family. Visited in mid-March 50°f day, so parking was not an issue. Parking would be much more difficult on a nice hot summer's day. Get out and enjoy what RI has to offer.

Great day to visit home

Go before they take down the beautiful lights! They are spread throughout more than the park but if you have wee ones it would be fine to just hangout in the park. Plenty to see and lots of space to run! Thank you westerly for this beautiful display!!! 😍 it's a pretty park to have a picnic at during summer time as well! Year round shenanigans can take place here !! However do not go swimming. That would not work in your favor as it is contaminated waters

What a beautiful park in RI. We decided to enjoy our wraps from Sandy's here on a bench and lookout over the beautiful park. It's super dog friendly and the grass is really green. I was impressed by the variety of trees and that the garden was still flowering in November.

It’s a nice little walk down from town to the lighthouse but unfortunately you cannot see it close up as it’s fenced off at quite a distance.
The current lighthouse was built with granite blocks in 1808 and automated in 1968.

You cannot walk close to the lighthouse for photos and the house blocks the view of the lighthouse, so if you’re looking for a photo opportunity it’s not great. The grass field is fun to throw frisbees or relax. There is a road to the lighthouse, the line says for only over age 65yrs, however, it is low season, not busy, so drive there. Or if you want exercise, it’s a nice walk. Watch the sunset, beautiful.

This park in westerly is of great size! It is large enough you can see other people yet enjoy your own peace and space. Its a great place to have a picnic because just about anywhere is a spot to sit down and enjoy whats around you. The history there is fascinating and you can easily learn more by talking to the library staff! There is also bathrooms in the library. It's a very dog-friendly park and there are many good boys who stroll around with their owners. I also just love love love how many squirrels run around, and they get pretty close to you! If you throw some nuts they love to grub on them. I come to this park often because it is such a gorgeous and fun place to be! I have met many wonderful people here. They hold all sorts of events, even plays on theatre stages!! I have seen zumba too, you can ask the library staff for more about events and times. I love this park!

A great place to visit and see local historical items.

It's a nice sunset spot.

A gem of tranquility in the middle of Westerly. Stroll around and marvel at the variety of mature trees. Stop and sit on a bench or get up close and hug one of your tree ancestors. There is a packed used book store within walking distance and a great Mexican restaurant if you want to Bring a book and a taco and spend a serene afternoon amongst these beautiful trees.

An absolutely beautiful place to hike. Great trails that are well established and blazed well as well. We saw some amazing things while we were here and some wildlife too. Very easy hike as well. Absolutely recommend.

As a kayaking spot it's fair. Stay along the southern shore to avoid shallow water, especially at low tide. Beware of the current as you get near the narrow breechway. Fast enough to sweep a kayak out to open water.

Wonderful town, with lots of great things to see and do

Definitely beautiful, but as the group of 6 of us...who happened to meet together were beginning our MTB sojourn, someone from the trust stopped us and told us we needed to call her first for permission to ride on the land. It was an aggressive and strange experience.

The lighthouse is now private property, but you can still walk or drive up close enough to see it from the back. The beautiful part was watching the ocean crashing up against the rocky shoreline and experiencing the sounds and smells!

My favorite place to visit @ Watch hill in Westerly. People who are 65yrs and handicap are allowed to drive through the rest of us have to walk and it's short walk with spectacular homes along the narrow road and wide open where the lighthouse is located. I was given a tour inside and got educational about lighthouse. The view all the around was absolutely stunning. 😍 This is my 2nd visit here. Definitely a must see the tour is free so is parking. Bring your water bottle with you. There are no bathroom. So closes to bathroom short within minutes to town.

Great little walk for my Littles! This is a walk, not a hike, it's less than half a mile out and back, but a lot of fun for my 4, 6, and 8 yr old. We looked for birds, bugs, and plants! Found a tree that reminded my 8yr old of the Womping Willow from HP which she though was so cool! The parking lot is small and not very visible from the road, but its a cool little walk, something different to do.

Beautiful - there were many mergansers in the pond, making this hike/walk a special treat. Paths are well-kept and delineated. Despite the large amount of cars parked in the lot, the beach/dune area is so large that one doesn’t notice the crowds. Don’t attempt this in sandals!

Great trails. You feel like you are in the middle of nowhere.

.3 miles round trip and only one path
Nice view of the pond at the end though
The turn into the parking lot is pretty bumpy

This driveway and parking lot needs some safety upgrades. A bike path would be great here to give pedestrians and bikers a chance to get off of Shore Road for a bit.

Terrific afternoon walking downtown, in the park by the library, shopping at the Savoy bookstore, and lunch at Malt and Barley.

Great place for a nice hike or walk. There are several trails depending on how long you want to walk. Nothing to challenging and all paths are marked well. Along trails there are points with information boards. There is a great app that has maps of the park and more information. Definitely worth your time if you haven't been there yet.

All trails are easy to manage . Running through the MTB course was interesting.

Such a cute down town! There are some great shops and fantastic places to eat & drink. Plenty of parking and safe!

clean, quiet place to walk... make sure to wear orange during hunting season

Westerly has the nicest, I mean seriously, the nicest city park that I've ever been to. Very old established trees, with many being labled. 2 fountains, 2 overlooks and meandering paths throughout. Truly amazing!!!!

RI version of Central Park. Great place for meditation, yoga or just enjoying company of others. Great venues during the summer .

I love living in this town but it's lacking with retail shops and it needs a broader range of restaurants.

We had an excellent and extensive tour by Roberta Humble and I learned a lot! So many different uniforms and artifacts from our armed forces and local history! Thanks Roberta! Suzy and Kevin

...one word..fantastic opportunities to bash your face in on rocks, roots and trees.....best mountain biking!

Woody hills is the best of Westerly trails period pines and oaks Beaver pond the town Forrest is a commercial this is boss I m partial there's ravens and I live ravens caw!!!

Very nice place to hike & bike. Wide paths. Cannot wait to go back to explore all the paths

Westerly has got to going on! Great shops, restaurants, theaters, art scene, plenty of parking, and an amazing library & park.

A wonderful museum inside the armory to visit. A lot of rich history inside.
The Armory is avalible to be rented for private fuctions.

Wasn't sure what the Armory was used for. The have a nice military museum with knowledgeable staff. Everything is done well. It is worth a visit.

Nice place for mountain biking.

Very old and historic building. The museum has some very interesting artifacts. And the architecture is beautiful.

Wonderful former Girl Scout camp, with walking paths. Great place for a quick jaunt in nature. Also an excellent place to hold a special camping event (requires special permission from the Westerly Land Trust).

Wilcox Park is Westerly's Gem. It's a beautiful place to walk and full of historical information and sites. Be sure to stop by the Westerly Library as well if they are open. You won't be disappointed.

Cool building with a museum in it. Reasonable price for renting the hall, but no AC. They have kitchen for renters to use for food. Just being in this place is pretty cool.

86 acre Audubon preserve that is really just for wildlife. The parking lot is impossible to access unless you have a Hummer, and there is only a short trail that ends abruptly at a salt pond. Nice to know this place exists for wildlife, but if you want to hike the nearby Dr. John Champlin Glacier Park, Misquamicut Beach, Ninigret National Wildlife Refuge, or Burlingame Management Area are better options.
