Saw a couple of rattlesnakes right on the trail as I got closer to the top. Be extra careful. Keep ears open for the rattle.

Very short hike. There is one pretty steep area at the last leg but just take it slow and you'll get there. We took my 3 and 5 year old and they did it by themselves up and back with no problems. It is a very scenic area. Lots of wild flowers and lots of butterflies when we were there. Great place to look into the valley.

This is one of our very favorite family trails. Lots of pink, white, deep purple, yellow and blue flowers. Amazing view of Utah Valley, the lake, surrounding meadows and incredible mountains.

Slate Canyon is pretty and is usually less crowded than other hiking trails. However it's not one of my favorites as the scenery is not incredibly stunning.

Beautiful at this time of year! Dirt road getting up is pretty rough for a passenger car. I was glad we were in a Jeep. The drive is beautiful too, so you don't need to hike to enjoy it

Lovely hike, great area to take photos in the fall. Gorgeous views and it isn’t too crowded. You may want a four wheel drive vehicle because the road can get a little intense at times but if you take it slow a Prius can handle the dirt road. It can get dusty and there are some great views of wildlife.

Great little hike super close to Provo/Orem. Very sustained and steep so bring your game face! Also probably not for kids right now... The trail can get super rocky and slippery, especially close to the falls. You will most likely be getting wet, so prepare with the proper boots! Also, you can't hike this one too early in the spring or you'll run into glacier snow pack. 😅 It's never been greener than this year though... 2023! 4 stars because trail conditions can be sketchy AF.
To get there, park in the bridal veil Falls area, go under the freeway and cross the bridge on the right, then follow fence left around and go up to the fire road. Turn right, follow it to the shack looking thing and turn left... That is the trail head!

A BEAUTIFUL HIKE. hard though. We clocked 1,400 feet of elevation for the total 4.47 miles. The hike up is steep and the trail is narrow, would not recommend for kids and dogs could potentially be risky as well.
Park at squaw (kjhv) peak overlook and then the trail is to the left of the parking lot. Not too many bugs and we only saw one other group hiking.
It’s definitely challenging but rewarding! So beautiful.

Quite a difficult hike, I started at slate canyon. Early may. The trail was flooded from all the precipitation this year, the snow map said 2" snow max. There was at least 4 and a half feet hahah. At that point the trail was unseeable. The elevation gain was steep. Not sure how much though. It's a really fun hike! Word of caution if it's early spring

Not a bad place for a fun quick easy trail! During the summer we hike here a decent amount. I also go here during the evenings when I do my summer moped rides. It was a great view especially at night! Go visit this place and see for yourself!!
Love this hike, this is not super well known and a great place for getting away from the hustle of the valley. I usually only see one to two other groups of hikers on this path. Pretty steep but not bad if you are in good shape.

Beautiful drive up to Buffalo Peak with all the fall colors, but did not know there would a LONG rocky drive to the trailhead. The road starts off paved but then becomes very rocky. If I had known, I would of taken a truck so that I wouldn’t have been so slow in the sedan. Now would it be worth another visit? Probably not. The hike was short but the views were definitely spectacular. There is a steep rocky incline to the very very top. IMO not that worth it. I would stop once you see the view of the valley. There are views of other places that are less of a drive. That being said, there were like no people. Amazingly quiet. About 1 other group but even then we had the trail to ourselves. Took my dog and 4 year old. Wished the hike was longer but glad I checked it out anyway.

Super fun hike especially during the fall when all the colors come out. It’s quite an incline so if you skip leg day this hike is not for you lol. If you’re wanting to see the waterfall at the top bring shoes or boots you can get muddy and wet. Definitely don’t bring kids unless you plan on carrying them most of the way. Great views great workout!

A dope alternative to Bridal Veil. While the falls aren't as big as Bridal Veil is, it's definitely still worth it, especially when you add in the fact that it's way less crowded than Bridal Veil gets. Went there with a friend and we only ran into like 3 other small groups the whole time. To get to the falls, you just follow the creek up. On either side of the creek there are small dirt paths that you can follow up, but just beware of rattlesnakes, which like to hide in the foliage that hugs the dirt paths. It also gets quite steep as you continue up.

Parking was easiest from the Nunn’s Park camping lot north of the highway off the bridal falls exit. The trailhead begins along the road, across the old roadway bridge, then follow the trail up and eventually to the right along the service road. The elevation profile is straight up, no switchbacks, and the lower 2/3 is very exposed, so hike early or late to avoid the scorching sun. Once the trail joins the creek you can pretty much follow it up any way you would like to the falls. Great views await!

This is a short but taxing hike, so water, sunscreen, and a reasonable level of fitness are required. Avoid the temptation to climb the upper tiers above the falls — the rocks are loose and slide easily, and the consequences of a fall would be sever. Note any wet rocks in the creek are very slippery too, so mind your ankles and use caution when traversing. A great morning warm up hike just minutes from Provo!

Let's keep it a secret. Steep is the name of the game here. Hike the Bonneville Shoreline trail from here or wonder up until you tire. It's all good.

The initial hike up the dirt road is grueling but once you get past it it's a fun little hike. We like walking up the stream jumping from rock to rock, the waterfall at the top isn't the biggest but it sure is pretty!

A very pretty but VERY rigorous hike. The first half of the trail is fairly easy up a gradual incline, but once you reach the creek bed it becomes a steep scramble over shifting rocks and crosses the creek several times. There are a series of waterfalls up the canyon and the views are absolutely gorgeous. I wouldn't recommend children go on this hike, but if you're careful and familiar at hiking it can be a lot of fun.

It's a beautiful hike! It's a lot less busy than bridal veils, which is right across the street. The trail is fairly long and gets a little steep sometimes, but if you are in pretty good shape you'll be fine. The views are beautiful and a lot of the trail is right alongside the river. Once you reach the falls you can climb up and find several more falls. Definitely worth the hike!

Very calm and peaceful. Not nearly as crowded as neighboring Rock Canyon or Y mountain. Beautiful view of the valley and mountains. Great hiking and walking from here.

Easy access, paved parking lot and restroom at trail head. First part of trail (a mile or so) is basically a rocky road, but keep climbing and it becomes more of a trail. It is steep: We gained 2900 ft of elevation in ~3 miles. It was still early May, so there was still quite a bit of snow up at the top and we couldn't make the connection over to an adjacent trail.
This is a hiking trail. We were hoping to find more of a running trail, but you're not going to run much of this trail, at least not up. We could only run about 1/3 of the way, I think you'd have to be an ultra-runner to run the whole way up. Once you get back up in there, it feels like a different world, like you're hundreds of miles from civilization. Great views!

This park is a beautiful addition to Provo's park system. It provides access to yet another scenic vista overlooking Utah Valley, as well as prime hiking trails up Slate Canyon and the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. This park did not exist in my youth, but I'm glad it is here now to share with my kids.

This is an underrated canyon so it is not visited nearly as much as it's crowded cousin, Rock canyon. The trail up the canyon is very steep but is surrounded by a rugged beauty of soaring, mostly inaccessible peaks. The trail to the right is nice for a short walk (but fades off from construction & does not continue after a while). The trail to the left is Bonneville shoreline trail and is a well-maintained trail leading to the start of the Y-trail.

The Bonneville Shoreline Trail is the perfect place for a short easy hike. From the slate canyon parking lot it's about 2 miles to the Y parking lot. There are bees along the trail and there's a beehive in one of the gates you pass through on the trail. If you're allergic to bees I recommend bringing your EpiPen, we always do. Also, watch out for snakes. I've seen snakes on this trail three days in a row this week Great view of the valley though.

The Slate Canyon trail is pretty steep at beginning. It is gorgeous in spring and early summer but can get really hot the later you go in the year. It's a really nice trail for hiking, but I wouldn't recommend going mountain biking here just because of how steep it is and all of the loose rocks, there are much more enjoyable places to go.
