Beautiful and clean.
This is a great place to visit if you are into dinosaurs, paleontology, fossils. Very impressed and we were at 2 previous places in Utah prior to this one.
Had some fossils for sale in vending machine.
Had several "touchable" items clearly marked. Worth the stop.

Free museum of amazing excellence for its size. Kids love this place.
A fun little museum with lots of interesting specimens, and we got to see a few students at work too.
The playground is currently fenced off and closed. It will probably be great after they finish renovations, but right now it is closed.
This is a fun little museum. It says student parking, but there are about 4 museum parking spots. It's usually pretty empty and self guided. Recently when we've gone parts of the museum have been closed off, but it's still worth a quick visit if you're in the area. It's free.

Very small and much of it closed off for construction. Viewing windows to see live action in the workshop. Free, but there us a donation box and a vending machine selling a few gift shop style trinkets.
It’s free, but does that mean it’s good….?

As much as I love seeing dead animals, I was getting major side eye. Especially from the zebras. Don’t even get me started on the second floor because I don’t even know what’s going on up there.

A nice hike and a good place for rockhounding, if you don't mind hauling your finds all the way out. The stream is beautiful here in the spring. There is also a short but intense mountain biking course just below the trailhead that's worth checking out. Also a good spot to hike on the Bonneville Shoreline trail. I like the stretch just south of Slate Canyon.
I’ve never seen so many people give COVID and Climate Change exhibits such glowing 5-star reviews. Let’s go to a life science museum to look at COVID-19 masks. Seriously?

Besides the 2-foot slide and tree house, tell me what there is for children to do here? Same animals on display for the last 40 years. Please update (and throw away the masks and plastic water bottles exhibit upstairs, nobody cares). Maybe install an exhibit on… animals?
We LOVE the Bean Museum for our kids! It's a nice, short visit that's educational and entertaining for when we need a short outing. They always have a good variety of exhibits that our kids like to see, as well as a small play area that they love.
Small, but fun museum. Lots of fossils and bones. And it's free!

Great trailhead for a hike along the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. Good views and nice public areas and restrooms in season. Out of season there is usually plenty of on street parking by the gate which provides for pedestrian or bike entrance. Trail is shared by himself and mountain bikers and readily accommodate both.
This was worth the visit. They have hands-on exhibits and some really neat displays
Cute free paleontology museum located on BYU campus! It might not be too big, but it's definitely family-friendly and can be done in about 30 minutes. They have a QR code to a self guided audio tour near the entrance, so if you're looking for a more in-depth experience, I'd recommend checking it out!

We went hiking the day after Thanksgiving in the snow. It was beautiful and we had a great time.
The parking lot is nice and has a bathroom that was locked when we were there. The trail is made of loose rock and was quite slippery on the way down in the snow. The trail is pretty steep.
The younger kids decided to stay at the base of the trail and sled. It worked pretty well with using the trail as the sledding track but there wasn't anywhere else to sled. So I don't really recommend that.
All in all, it was nice but not my favorite trail around here.
Moderate to Advanced. Pretty steep hike that has loose dirt or sliding rocks. Trail can be difficult to follow, but the stream bed made the hike a lot easier during the dry season.

Like many on here, saw this good boy. The dog came up to us pretty far up the hike and was incredibly well behaved. We were delighted to actually see him like the other reviews going back several months

Great view for fall foliage
Slate Canyon Trail in Provo, Utah is an outdoor enthusiast's dream! The trail is well-maintained and offers stunning views at every turn. It's perfect for both beginners and seasoned hikers. A 5-star experience for anyone who loves nature and physical activity!

Provo Canyon is a beautiful scenic drive with a reservoir at the top. There is a smattering of communities along the sides. One of which is Vivienne Park. Fun area to visit and start tubing the Provo River. Train tracks, pond, park amenities, small community to the right, and scenic drive to the left when you get in there. Great memories of this beautiful area!

Great trail access to Provo River Trail. First of many parks going up Provo Canyon. Trail is easy, paved and great for kids, but is very busy and has a lot of traffic (bikes, e-bikes, strollers, skateboards, runners, etc).
Love the Bean Museum! Such beautiful animals. They just opened up the new Utah exhibit too! Last time I was there, they had just begun. I had a fun time going to their opening night event, and won a little prize:

Great place to chill. Lots of grassy areas with a pavilion and a playground. Never really busy and there's always parking available.
Rock Canyon is absolutely beautiful and the views are breathtaking.

One of my favorite parks to visit on weekends. Usually pretty quiet and easy to find an open spot.
It is being remodeled with new and updated exhibits not much here now should very cool when done. Four and half stars when all exhibits are open just not worth a visit now.
This museum is curated very well and is well worth the visit. It is unique in the fact that it focuses on fossils and ancient life found specifically in North America, and many are from Utah. I only saw two or three fossils that weren't found in North America, so I felt it made it more real for me knowing what dinosaurs actually lived where I "roam."
I gave it 4 stars because it was rather small, which I wasn't expecting because the building itself is quite large. Having said that, it is a research laboratory, as well, which I assume is what the extra space is used for.
Also, be forewarned that there are not a lot of hands-on things for little children, to be fair their are things for them to touch it is just not as easy to find those things as you would hope. So although my 4-5 year old really enjoyed looking, it wasn't as easy to not touch it. 😉
Great little park. Nothing super special in way of equipment but the views of the mountains from the park are unbeatable. It’s a quiet part of town with lots of parking, as long as it’s not during school hours (it’s next to the highschool). Never seen it crowded, which is nice. There’s been some construction but I think it’s almost done. Every Tuesday evening and Saturday morning you can catch a local pickup game of ultimate frisbee here too, if that’s your thing.

Nice park good place to fish.
This is a steep stony trail, largely in a creek bed. Though not a casual hike by any means, the trail does reward with some great cliff and valley views.

Nice little canyon. Also know as Tribble fork canyon or amaerican fork canyon. This is one of the entrances to the alpine loop and cascade springs. High traffic during camping season and weekends so adjust for that.
Quiet, small, out of the way place. A spot to sit in the shade, a picnic area with grills available. Neighborly and worth it.
Small but fun paleontology museum. Fun thing to do when visiting campus. Very quiet.
This is a special year with all of the water. The trailhead is a perfect access point for a few trails and the DH bike trail. The creek has surged over its banks and requires multiple water crossings.
Super fun hike! Hidden gem in Utah county.
A bit steep but really pretty, we didn’t walk very far before turning around and choosing a different hike because we were looking for something more flat, but there was a really cute dog who I see in some pictures others have posted here that ran up to us and walked with us for a little before going back home. We saw some lizards and butterflies and we went in late may when there were a ton of wild flowers so overall really pretty, I would recommend for experienced hikers.
Save it For the Summer:
Probably the longest two miles of my life! The hike seemed easy on paper but quickly became a steep hike that I had to do on all fours. The hike lasted for us about two and a half hours. It was also bad timing on my part because the higher we got the more snow we began to see and feel—there was one time on the trail I sank to my waist.
The snow furthermore was the reason we couldn't finish; we were following what seemed to be a path before it snowed, but after the cutback, that path disappeared.
Needless to say, I'll be back in the summer!

The highlights were the two random dogs accompanying us to the top and back, and the large winter icicles.
Make sure when you arrive to get your license plate number for your parking voucher as I didn't see any signs saying that until you get to the entrance.
It is free and they do take cash donations.
The place is a good size museum. Lots to see.
It is part of the BYU so there are religious pictures there.
They have a small little play area for the kids to get their energy out.
Really nice museum. Loved everything. My kids loved it. Very educational.
The Bean Life Science Museum at Brigham Young University (BYU) is one of the best natural history museums I have ever visited. When I entered the museum, I was in awe of the stunning exhibits that showcased the natural world in all its glory. As a biologist and nature enthusiast, I found the displays informative, educational, and inspiring.

The museum is located on the BYU campus, and it is easy to find, with ample parking available. The building itself is modern and spacious, with large windows that allow natural light to flood the exhibits. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by friendly staff eager to help me navigate the museum and answer any questions I had.

The museum is divided into several galleries, each focusing on a different aspect of the natural world. The galleries are beautifully designed, and the exhibits are arranged in a way that is easy to follow and understand. One of my favorite galleries was the Life Through Time exhibit, which showcases the evolution of life on Earth from its earliest beginnings to the present day. The exhibit features various fossils, specimens, and interactive displays that help visitors understand the complex history of life on our planet.

Another museum highlight is the Birds of the World exhibit, which features a stunning collection of over 800 species of birds from around the globe. The exhibit is arranged by region, and visitors can learn about the unique adaptations and behaviors of birds from different parts of the world. The museum also has an extensive collection of insects, including butterflies, moths, and beetles, displayed in their natural habitats.

In addition to the galleries, the museum also has an extensive collection of preserved specimens and research facilities that are used by BYU faculty and students. The museum is actively involved in scientific research and conservation efforts, and visitors can learn about ongoing projects and initiatives that are aimed at protecting and preserving our natural world.

The Bean Life Science Museum is a must-visit for anyone who loves nature and wants to learn more about the amazing creatures that inhabit our planet. The exhibits are beautifully designed and informative, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend a visit to this museum to anyone who is looking for a fun and educational experience.

One thing that stood out to me during my visit was the museum's commitment to sustainability and conservation. The museum has implemented several green initiatives, including the use of energy-efficient lighting, recycling programs, and sustainable building practices. Additionally, the museum is actively involved in conservation efforts, and visitors can learn about the important role that museums play in protecting and preserving our natural world.

Overall, I was thoroughly impressed with the Bean Life Science Museum at BYU. The museum is a beautiful and educational space that showcases the wonders of the natural world. Whether you are a student, a scientist, or a nature enthusiast, there is something for everyone at this amazing museum. I would highly recommend a visit to anyone who is looking for a fun and informative experience that will leave them with a greater appreciation for the beauty and complexity of our natural world.

This place is great for kids to come and learn about the animal world. For a small location they have a LOT of exhibits. They have a recently constructed kids area that is very fun. There's a lot of cool things to see here. Definitely worth a visit, especially because it's free admission!

I haven't had the chance to do the whole loop yet since it's been winter in the 2 visits I had but it is beautiful and super accessible.

It's a bit of a quick incline the first mile or so. Helps to have teeth for your hiking boots but not required. Good traction works just fine.

Beautiful views of the Peaks as well as Utah Valley and Utah lake.

There is a pretty sweet looking mt. Biking trail also.

You can connect into the Bonneville shore line trail here as well.

Cell Service Quality- Good
Dog Friendly - Yes
Picnic / BBQ facilities-Yes

One of my all time favorite canyons. Provo Canyon has over 12 different parks that offer unique experiences, from the provo river, to well kept trails and beauty that’s incredible. There’s always a photo opportunity, so don’t forget the camera!

Mt. Timp/Canyon View Park on the Provo River is a great fishing spot. There were trout there and bass in the deeper end of the river. There is a hiking trail for bikes and a walking trail. It's a nice place to picnic with a play area.

Wonderful short hike to the upper falls. 2 dogs and a 4 year old in tow. It’s secluded enough to feel deep in nature but short enough to complete within 30 minutes. We started from the bridal veil falls, walked on the paved trail towards the the upper falls. There is a building with graffiti on it and that was where we started up the mountain. Not a lot of people were on this trail which was a huge plus, especially with the gazillions of people at bridal veil falls. The hike up is rocky and steep but nothing a 4 year old can’t handle. We took our time. As you walk up you see more and more of the canyon mountain across the road behind you. The waterfall itself is beautiful and feels like a cove. It’s all slanted, rocky and steep so people don’t stay for very long because there’s nowhere to sit. We just sat on the rocks and enjoyed some time alone. It actually got a bit chilly so I had to move from the shade into the sun. There is no where to play in the water like the bridal veil falls, but to me it’s worth having a secluded place to yourself for a little while.

I actually climbed up to (almost) the top of bridal veil falls instead of going to the upper falls. I just parked in the upper falls parking lot... It was sprinkling and raining a little bit on and off the whole time but the trails weren't too bad, not too slippery, a little muddy though...And if you end up on the ridge we did, just below the top of bridal veil falls, just a warning….almost at the end of the trail, there are 2 or 3 steps only a little wider than my foot so I had to sidestep, hooking my fingers into cracks in the cliff to make sure I didn't fall down the mountain... If you are afraid of heights, do not take this trail!
This is such a beautiful place to overlook. I’ll have to come back with my drone. The road is a little rough but even a passenger car should be ok if you take it slow.

Great canyon with a lot of parks and a great river to fish in. There are many other places that branch off of this canyon as well. Midway at one end and Orem and Provo at the other there are a lot of things nearby. Squaw Peak road comes off of this road as well and has one of the coolest off road adventures in the area. The only complaint I have is continuous construction and over crowding, but that is to be expected with the area ever growing.
Good playground equipment, but not much room for bigger crowds. A little dirty and unkempt overall, could use a little maintenance.

No covered areas for gathering to weather. Access to nice open hills and fields, which is great for outdoor sports and play.

It’s really pretty here and there are various parks you can go with family. It’s good for walks, bike rides, and other activities. The scenery is pretty. I think you should still be cautious though because I’ve heard of dangerous and creepy stuff happening here too. It’s probably not always safe to go alone.
As we all know, I love parks. I also love taking my dog around, and having her model all over. Haha.

This park is a pretty great one, and I was really surprised how there was no one here on a Sunday afternoon.

There is a baseball field attached to it, which is pretty cool, and it is right next to a school.

I like how there is a playground area for children, as well as a few spots for some afternoon barbecue.

There's no covered meeting spots though .. so if it's really bright outside, or raining, it may not be that great of a place.
My puppy loved it though, and because of that, as do I

I came her in January and it was amazing. The trail was packed down and it was beautiful. The snow made the rock structures become even more exaggerated. When the sun set it was also the perfect canyon for photos. If your looking for a good place to get out during winter this is the place, even when it’s snowing.
The dirt road is a little rough to get to this point, but the views are worth the drive!

Canyon View Park is a great place to spend a evening with the family especially for a BBQ or a gathering.

The parks landscaping and play ground as well are the restrooms are all clean and well maintained. Grills are available to use. It has a large grass field to play lots of different types of games. Very nice place to relax and go for walks or bike rides.
This viewpoint is so amazing. Absolutely incredible view if you walk out onto the rocks!

Enjoyable walk.
In summer 2023 still recovering from the avalanche in the winter. Pics included were taken 4th of July, and still more than 6 ft of snow pack melting.
The stream is full.
At the base of the falls, the trail is currently covered and need to be careful there.
Parking is challenging.

Nice series of falls viewable from the road or you can park in the upper falls lot and hike up to them. The sun was setting so I just enjoyed the view from the road but this area looks like a great place to pack a picnic,, park, get your bike out and spend the day hiking and biking.
A beautiful day for a hike! In the mid 50s. There was only about 5 cars in the parking lot at noon. When I left 3 hours later there were about 10. Only a couple of bikes and all the dogs I saw were on a leash. From the parking lot you only walk about a hundred yards to see the falls. A great shirt hike for all ages, levels, and abilities! Several benches and picnic tables along the way to stop and have a lunch.

Parking Area is good. They have restroom and sitting tables under shade. Trail is very good for cycling and roads looks new. Sign for getting to falls is not clear so look for walking path starting ahead of bridge. Hike to falls is steep but its worth climbing. Now we have little snow at top and it's difficult for kids other wise nice place to visit. Will be difficult hike for elder people.
This museum isn’t too large but it is really cool. Entrance is free and they have several unique Utah dinosaurs on display. They have several replicas that are available to touch and feel (great for little kids) as well as real bones behind glass. They have full skeleton replicas that are great for pictures. This is a working museum. There is a large glass window where you can see into the workshop. We talked with one of the employees who works as a paleontologist which was very interesting!! This is a great activity.
A shaded mountain trail to a rewarding hike to a waterfall. The trail is a bit rocky and steep for kids, but take it slow and you will find a refreshing 30 foot waterfall with beautiful views of Provo canyon. At the base of the falls, the water disappears into the rocky gravel base. Pretty interesting.
Trail uncertain. Ended up climbing half a mile up a rock field and scratching up my legs. Don’t make the same mistakes I did. There is a hidden path to the left just as the field gets bad. Good luck and have fun!
Great place to take kids. It's not usually too crowded. There is one covered pavillion, some places to grill food, a kids playground, a sand volleyball pit and lots of open grass commonly used for frisbee or soccer.
Not for children but still awesome... perhaps because there were no children... ;)... The trail starts off well defined but slowly fades away as you hike up the canyon. It picks up in spots but there is a little bushwhacking in places. Sometimes it's best to hike right on the bank of the stream. However, there are some sections of path on the north side that are reasonable. Make sure to check out the double A-frame rock pile, the treasure chest, and, if you want to keep going, the rock spire. (See pics). It can be difficult in places so come prepared. It started raining on me so I didn't make it as far as I wanted. When I go back I'll update this I suppose. I'll try to post my GPS waypoints too.
A great place to bring your family. It sits right below the bluffs and has several trails that go into Little Rock Canyon if you want to do some light hiking.

So far I have hiked Slate Canyon 6 times. I first hiked this canyon because I wanted to experience something other than Rock Canyon. I quickly realized why Slate Canyon is not as popular, the incline. It is a far steeper canyon than Rock Canyon. Going up doesn’t seem that crazy, yet coming down you realize just how steep the trail is. That being said, if you are looking for a trail in Utah County that has unique beauty, very few people on it, and provides a good workout then look no further than Slate Canyon.

One of the big perks of this canyon are the options it provides. Though there is only one trail up the canyon once you’ve gone through the canyon you can connect to the Heritage Peak trail which connects to the Provo Peak trail, you can go down the Y Trail and/or connect to the Y Mountain summit trail, or go down Side Canyon to Rock Canyon.

The Slate Canyon trail crosses the canyon stream 9 times. This is only an issue if you happen to be hiking the during the spring, at peak runoff, following a big snow year. There are no bridges over the stream. The rest of the year the stream is most likely dry. I recommend hiking it in the spring, early summer, or fall.

If you are into cool rock formations Slate Canyon is a good place to fix your fancy. With vertical sediment layers, spires, stone ribs, variety of colorful sediment layers, and large cliffs the canyon is quite beautiful.

You can hike, horse ride, or ride mountain bikes in Slate Canyon.
Very good kids love ! Is very larg Park.
Kids have a lot fan.
The view is very nice from the mountains ⛰.
Ive lived next to this trail my whole life! Its really fun to go up there and relax, mayne because im a kid but this trail really isent that big, id recommend hiking up until the pines and there is a place u cam rest and theres a fire pit, this trail is very unknown to many, the entrance is a little small and kinda hard to tell, also its really fun if u go about halfway up and detour (north wards) and hike up to a ledge that has a great veiw!< the picture i posted. There is a few small spots along the trail where u could pitch a one or two person tent and have a fire, also there is a great few good climbing spots along the trail.
