In the many years I've used Gordon James Real Estate Services, I've had 2 very good owner account managers: Christian and Emma. Both have been proactive and responsive in their efforts to support owners and help them with tenant support and transition. They have both made me happy with my decision to stay with GJRES to manage my property. The company has been far from perfect but they have made improvements in the last few years including hiring these 2 individuals. Because of that, I've retained them for managing my property. I have used Gordon James to manage my rental units while living overseas. In recent years, I’ve become very satisfied with their professionalism and communications. My current property manager is Millie, and she has consistently been responsive, polite, on top of things, and always ready to make accommodations as the situation requires. On the leasing side, the process has always been smooth with proactive reporting /suggestions on GJ’s part in order to get the property rented quickly. Keeping both owners and tenants happy is not always easy and I find that being an engaged owner helps ensure satisfaction all around.

As a photographer who has been successfully in business since 1984, this is the worst organization I've ever worked for. They hired me to take pictures in Hartford, CT and then there was no communication when I had questions and needed support. When I expressed my concerns in an email, they simply stopped using me with no explanation or cause. Two years later, they contacted me again to appply for a job in Providence, RI, saying they were "A completely new organization with a new CEO". They set up an interview time for a day I was clear I'd have to do massive rescheduling to make, and then cancelled the interview the day before, saying they'd already hired someone. Both times they created a "bait and switch" atmosphere, promising way more than they delivered, both in terms of the amount of work, pay, and even commitment to an interview they requested and scheduled. Look around for other reviews - they are not a good company to work for if you are a creative.

I cannot thank Rob enough for all of the tremendous help and insight he provided during my house search in DC this summer. I was a first time home buyer (and self-employed) and I was very nervous about the whole process. Rob immediately alleviated all my worries and concerns. His extremely calm demeanor, friendliness and I think more than two decades of experience in the real estate business (and expertise in the DC housing market) all helped me so much find my dream condo. Rob helped us buy our first home 14 years ago, and he assisted us again this spring when we sold that home and bought a new one. Every step of the way, he was there to give us advice based on a deep knowledge of the market and our area. He negotiated a steal of a price for our new home (with a large credit for inspection issues), plus secured a great price on our sale without losing the buyer over an unknown structural concern. It was a pleasure to work with Rob, he turns a very stressful process into a manageable one with strong communication and support along the way.

My huband and I wanted to move from North Carolina to Virginia and wanted to have a home that was relatively close to Washington DC but not so close that we needed to fight the traffic as well have an inflated price for a smaller home. We also wanted to be relatively close to a major airport and having a place close to Dulles airport seemed to be a reasonable compromise. We contacted several real estate agents from North Carolina and picked one that did have a very high rating. However, working with him for a couple of days I found that he was quite impatient and did not like it when I changed a few of the parameters. So, before things soured a great deal, I decided to quickly end the engagement with them. After waiting for a little bit, I decided to try my luck again with real estate agents in the Maryland/Virginia area. It was perhaps our lucky day when on our second try we found Rob Carter from Compass Real Estate. We described our boundary conditions regarding price, size and location, and Rob listened to us very carefully. Based on our input, he prepared a list of properties for us to visit when we would travel to VA which we did within a week after our first conversation with Rob. During the first day we saw several homes, some of which were reasonable, and some were not. Based on what we saw, I asked Rob to change some of the search criteria which he happily complied with and had some of his valuable suggestions. We did have a concern with airplane noise and Rob was able to find a noise map that he would overlay on the properties that we were interested in and would screen properties based on that map over and above the other established criteria. After going through only a few homes, we were able to come up with a home that we liked. Rob was extremely efficient in working with the sales agent for the builder and going to and fro with the offer and counter offers and within a couple of days we were able to get the deal completed. We have moved many times within the USA, but I would say that this was one of the smoothest home buying experiences that we have ever had. Rob arranged for the home inspection and was there during the inspection, he personally came to the Title company for the settlement. To our surprise, he also came for the final walkthrough with the folks from the builder and was there when we were doing our final walkthrough to check if everything was completed. So thanks to Rob’s efficiency, we were able to get the house that we wanted in VA in less than a month. Generally, home buying is a stressful exercise, but with Rob’s help it was made very easy. Within a few days after we had completed the transaction, we were surprised to receive a gift box from Rob containing some savory cakes and fruits. If sometimes down the road, we need to sell or buy other homes in the area, we will go with Rob. I would strongly recommend anyone contemplating purchasing a property in the VA / MD area, to first reach out to Rob Carter from Compass Real Estate.

I am a customer. I list on Costar and pay for the subscription to list on Loopnet. This company will not stop billing me for services I am constantly asking them to stop. I tried the 3 month option. It continues to renew. An option to cancel in the portal is not available. You have to call your assigned customer agent. Mine continue to change. Assumable, high staffing turnover. Loopnet provided good leads in 2022 but now, I receive zero. Not sure what is happening with the company... But I need a new solution. This company is making my job difficult.

Me and my partner were first time home buyers and we had an extremely difficult time with our lender during the appraisal process and Mark went above and beyond contacting our lender multiple times a day, assisting us in multiple conference calls with the lender, and getting involved with our lenders supervisors to make sure the appraisal process was completed in time for us to close so we didn't lose our house. If you are looking to do any real estate transaction, we can not recommend Mark highly enough. They were terrific through the whole process. We went right to Urban Brokers when we were ready to upgrade to a larger home. Mark is extremely knowledgeable about the market and we’d use him every time if he hadn’t found us our forever home this time around. Urban Brokers also connected us with mortgage lenders, appraisers, staging, photographers, inspectors, pest control and more. I have been a tenant at the 4910 Mass Ave building since 2009. I must say that in the last 11 years I have been a tenant in this building the management has been unextremely poor. The biggest problem I have faced is that the building manager has often completely ignored my occassional emails asking for maintenance or help with a problem. Recently my car was broken into in the parking lot behind the building. I reached out the management to let them so know so that they could alert other tenants, but they did not do so. I heard a few weeks after that that a visitor to the building was robbed in the elevator. Again, no word from the management. This is a safety issue! Additionally, the workers have been rude when we have asked for maintenance help and disregarded that we are an office that sees patients. They show up unannounced to fix something, expecting us to stop our workday. If we could coordinate with them it would be so much better for our business. They have also complained when we have asked for things like replacement for a lost key, or other minor issues. Considering that we pay a premium to be in this building, I am not sure why they are so difficult and unpleasant to work with.

We were able quickly upload all the docs we needed and the process was painless. Most importantly, Graham was available on off hours (weekends, late evenings) so we could move on the home we wanted, quickly, and he was very approachable and friendly. I worked with Rob for nearly 2 years searching for the perfect property to buy in DC. My list of requirements for my future home was quite difficult to meet, but Rob worked closely with me to find just the right properties. At every turn, he warned me off properties that didn't fit my needs and desires, told me about issues he saw with the property and neighborhood, and truly at all times kept my best interests in mind. I never felt pressured in any way to move forward, and Rob was exceptionally knowledgeable about not only various parts of DC, but also the myriad concerns that go into purchasing a property. He was always responsive and held my hand through the whole process (and through multiple offers) and I am finally (and happily) in my first home thanks to Rob!
Update: I have now purchased a second home with Rob! This time it didn't take nearly as long, but my wife and I are convinced that we would not have gotten our house without having Rob as our agent. He was able to get an offer in within 2 hours of me contacting him about it, and he got the seller's agent to agree to extend their offer deadline and to accept our offer over two others. He was, as always, extremely responsive and helpful throughout the process and has followed up since to see how things are going. I simply cannot recommend Rob highly enough!

CoStar Group gives me a platform to market my Commercial Listings. They call me to verify information. It doesn't cost me anything for the service that I have been getting. It has been helpful during listing appointments to be able to tell the Seller that it is listed where the Commercial Agents look.

This is a total rip off and I, nor would my company recommend their services to anyone! Read their terms and conditions carefully if you make the mistake of considering this service. They have reps who call and pester companies looking to get any information that they can obtain.
