Reviews

Not that anyone with the CAC group responds or takes reviews seriously… because the worst issues seem to all be the same in negative reviews, all could be fixed and yet seems like they have no intent to resolve.
1. They have the shortest hours of any gym in Lakeview. This gym is small and already overcrowded at nearly every-time of day, horrible on weekends. Extended hours, which they had pre-Covid could relieve some of the peak hour congestion, like I said… seems an easy enough fix, esp if they are looking at other nearby gyms now open till at least 11PM.
2. WORMS and GNATS. Yes, when you are in the shower it isn’t rare to have to swat away a gnat or 3. Then as you look down at your feet there are tiny black worms wiggling and squirming around the drains in the showers. I’ve seen reviews here that mention this as a problem from over a year ago. Yet again…. Should be easy enough to get rid of, and yet they don’t bother. I’ve never seen anyone clean the shower stalls during the day or attempt to pour anything into the drains.
3. Certain staff can be very rude and catty and some of the gay guys working there go off on power trips by operating one set of gym rules for them and their friends and having different ones for people not part of their click. This gym is in Boystown so shouldn’t be a shock, I just would expect the employees to do the same as they expect from all members. No one likes a hypocrite.
My advice is either go the cheaper route and use Xsport down the street, or if you want a similar experience with more equipment go to FFC East Lakeview.

Its a pretty good gym with decent facilities and a variety of spaces to workout. My biggest problem with this gym is that in the year I've been going to it, they never allowed access to the giant climbing wall they have. Minor things like a reduced space to stretch or do any kind of functional training is ignorable. Some machines are starting to show wear and tear.

This place is becoming impossible. Way too many members competing for limited equipment squeezing into every available corner to try to get some space. There are two root problems: 1) Poor floor plan leading to redundancy of underutilized equipment and cramping of popular equipment, 2) Wasted space of multiple rooms which typically sit idle. It is time for some new thinking and a radical transformation to maximize and reverse the rapidly deteriorating conditions.

Good gym. Small weight room but generally not a problem outside of busy hours. Biggest complaint is the hours of operation. You need to be open later than what you’re currently offering. I’ll likely be joining one of the many other gyms within ~0.5 mile radius that are open later into the evening.

Garrett is a great instructor who made me feel very safe and comfortable in the class! All the staff are very friendly and the gym is so clean. I can’t wait to keep coming here.

I’m giving 3 stars as a member primarily because the gym is not very clean relative to other gyms I’ve been a member of.
The equipment is fine but it’s a very small space for the membership levels.
Amenities are basically zero but the benefits of the gym is that it’s very neighborhood centric and is only $60/month.

This gym is perfect for my needs. I’m beginning a weight training journey and it has all the tools I need to get in my workout so I can meet my goals. I like that it is a gym that is focused on enabling individual workouts geared toward gym users vs offering classes. Patrons are friendly and I don’t feel intimidated as I explore weight training. Overall clean and modern equipment.

I love this gym. It's a perfect mix of down-to-earth and nice. There's always such an upbeat vibe here. Generally fixes my mood if I feel beat down 😹 it gets pretty busy in the early evenings, which can feel overwhelming....but I can always find some machine that's open. AND I love the awesome classes!!

Holy crisps - why isn’t every gym run like this. So easy to use and cancel. Pennies per
Month in terms of cost. Full offering and never closes. Love this chain, can’t believe more gyms don’t operate like this..
3 hours of Personal Training for $150, too boot.

I’ve had a great time at this gym so far. Love having access to an outdoor pool. The classes have been great. I have a weird schedule so they don’t always align. Again I go at weird times so it’s never super busy. For the price, it’s definitely worth it. Feels sooooooo much nicer than the LA Fitness I used to go to. Very clean and I’ve never had any sort of issues.

Classes itself are nice and the instructors are great. They have a lot of different props
The only problem is that the floor in the studio is so dirty. It feels gross to walk on it. The yoga mat gets all nasty after taking a class there

Best gym in the neighborhood. Always super clean and friendly staff. They do day passes and weekly passes for purchase if you want to try it out. It was super quick to sign up.

Very clean facilities. Indoor pool is small. Roof pool is tiny. Both still nice features. Holiday hours are typically very short. Extending the holiday hours would be great.

It's a shame because this gym has the potential to be great but it falls far short.
Problem one is the staff. They are quite frankly standoffish at best and surly as worst. I recently had one staff member chase me around the shower and peer into my shower stall with me naked (yes really) because it was close to closing time and he apparently really wanted to go home.
The second issue is hours. The gym closes at 9pm on weekdays which is not standard practice for a big city gym. Every other gym in Lakeview pretty much is 24 hours or open until at least 10pm on weekdays. This gym shortened its hours during Covid and never went back to reasonable hours.
The facilities could truly be great with the two pools, etc., but unfortunately the short hours and frequently unpleasant staff make this gym subpar.

Great location, amazing gym! Perfect size and everyone here is friendly and fit (staff and members). All the equipment you’ll need and very clean facility.

Moksha has a great vibe - mixture of traditional practice with modern flare. My favorite teacher here is Aimee, she is one of the best I've found after 15 years of doing yoga. Support small businesses and support Moksha!

An ok gym, small weight room, not a lot of selections.
The main complaint is the hours. Why are we closing at 9pm? There's absolutely no good explanation for this. When I signed up it was until 9:30. Those of us who workout in the evening have a small window of time after getting off work to get in. You need to extend your hours to at least 10pm.

Best yoga studio in the city! I have been attending Moksha for 4 plus years, and I love it. Classes here are the real deal. I’ve learned to engage properly through instructor corrections instead of quickly running through poses. I find myself leaving class lighter then I entered.

Southport Fitness has consistently impressed me! The place is always clean, compared to other gyms I’ve been to, staff is super helpful, and it has all the necessities for me to get a great workout in!!

I absolutely love this studio! Being newer to yoga & having only gone to Core Power, I like the small intimate class sizes, energy of the people who attend & work there. The owner Daren also teaches and really makes you feel welcome. Aimee is another great instructor, both do a good job of explaining poses for the newbies. I’m obsessed w/their restorative yoga classes! I feel so zen & sleep so good afterwards. They offer free classes for the community as well as other workshops & have other locations too. Excited to check out their intro to ayurveda workshop!

A great place to learn traditional styles of yoga. This studio supports beginners and more advanced yogis alike. For the serious student and aspiring teacher, they have 200 hour and 500 hour Yoga teacher training Courses available. Styles range from Astanga, Vinyasa, Forrest yoga and Restorative. Definitely an experience not to be missed when visiting Chicago. Highly recommended!

Has the potential to be a good gym again. They need longer evening hours, and they need to clean more. There have been drain worms in the shower stalls off and on for a year or two.
They need to stop cutting corners and spend the extra little bit to get the details right.

I have attended classes at Moksha off and on since 2014, at each of the 3 locations. My favorite studio is the one off Armitage. The instructors are skilled, and the vibe is calm and welcoming, not a competitive environment. Multi-level classes are offered and during each class options to increase a position are shared, such as a more intense bind, or how to back off, if necessary...the theme of "do what your body is telling you" is ever present at Moksha. Teacher training is an offering. Also, look at their website for work study opportunities.

While this gym is small in comparison to others, it makes up for this in other ways. They play good music, there is always something good on the TV (you can even change it if you want). there are more than enough strength machines, cardio machines, barbells, and free weights to go around. It gets relatively busy around 5pm, but otherwise you'll be in there with only a few other people (I've even had the gym to myself when I go after 10pm). The place is clean, other members are respectful and pick up after themselves.

After researching many gyms in the area, Southport and Wicker Park Fitness are easily the best gyms in Chicago for the price. Always clean with well-maintained equipment, and have everything you could every need at a gym with a great variety of cardio and resistance training equipment. The gym is also 24/7 access for members, which has been greatly beneficial for me. You simply will find no better place to train for your money than at these 2 locations. In addition, the personal training deals are also unbeatable compared to any gym in or out of the city. They offer 3 sessions of personal training for $99 which is a price that no other gyms in the city will even come close to. Would recommend this personal training service and the gyms in general to anyone!

Southport Fitness is a very convenient, clean and well maintained gym! It's right next to the Brown Line station so it's really convenient to get in and out. The staff are also friendly and helpful!

I absolutely loved this gym. No frills, but very affordable and had everything I needed: basic weights, cardio equipment, and great classes. I love the WERQ dance classes with Lulu, who is so kind and positive. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Tony. I’m moving out of the city, otherwise I absolutely would have kept going here.

10/10 would recommend. Easy access next to the brown line, extremely spacious floor which makes it easier to move around without bumping into others. Pricing is fair and upfront. All charges are fully disclosed on their website and at the time you sign up, no hidden fees. Very well kept as well.

This yoga studio has such a comforting vibe. Every single class I have attended had a great instructor. I have never been disappointed at Moksha. The owner is really wonderful and leads an amazing class as well. Very caring and supportive atmosphere.

Unfortunately, I had to move for my job but otherwise I would have never stopped going here. The group fitness classes were incredible and the facilities were always so clean. It is a smaller neighborhood gym, but it has everything you need! The weights section was complete with all your lifting needs. There is also a lost and found in case you forgot anything and they empty it once a month, so you have plenty of time to retrieve what you forgot or lost!

Absolutely love this gym! Affordable, good quality machines and equipment and very clean. Staff is always friendly, the classes are great workouts. Would fully recommend to anyone interested in finding a space to workout- avid exercisers or those looking to get back in shape.

After taking class at several studios in Chicago and the suburbs, when I found Moksha a new it would remain my home studio. The teachers are compassionate and well-trained, the studio is clean, roomy and beautiful, and I immediately feel the positive energy when I arrive. I love that each teacher has a distinctive style and that Moksha recently added virtual classes! I highly recommend taking class here, especially from the owner Daren who teaches challenging and unique classes!

While this gym has no frills, their classes are superior to many gyms. My favorite class being Becca Caliendo's yoga class. I get the expertise and yoga class of a high end yoga studio at my local gym in her class. She has changed my practice and is by far my favorite yoga instructor I've ever had!!! I also love Brittany Jenkin's classes too. She kicks my butt every time and you can tell she loves what she does. Just their classes are definitely worth the cost of the gym!

They had an interesting series of art shows earlier in the year that suddenly stopped. What happened?

I’ve been going here for ~6 months now and while it doesn’t have the oomph and bells n whistles of one of the larger clubs it does have a cool laid back vibe that works for me and I don’t have to wait in queue for a station like the other clubs. Their USP is the fitness classes which my wife is a regular- btw spouse/partner gets 50% off , so helps to keep a familiar and close knit population.

It's a great new storefront gallery.

Great place for art.

Beautiful place. My only issue is there is no signage outside. It is easy to miss if you are driving or even walking by it.

Great staff. I love this facility. I've been going here for almost 2 years now. Most of the people that go here are also great. I'd say a large portion of the members are respectful and clean up after themselves (something other gyms are not known for). A lot of the personal trainers there are very knowledgeable people. I have yet to take a class there.

Nice little gallery with a good variety of artists.

The Bucktown area is brimming with art on the exterior, whether it be vibrant murals or sculptures along the 606. Unfortunately, there is not enough locations to absorb art underneath a roof. Bucktown Gallery is one of the best galleries in Chicago and a hidden gem in an area where there is sadly a dearth of quality art spaces. They consistently have a variety of intriguing art of various mediums ranging from stunning photography to vivid oil paintings and beyond. Their various events always create a welcoming environment that bring a needed social aspect to the art environment. The coordinator Matt is very knowledgable and passionate about all aspects of the space.

I have been going to this gym since '10 and have enjoyed it ever since. The classes are awesome, especially Joie's class-Body Basics. The gym is small, but I like that because it is more personal and you're not just an ID card. Great place for all of your fitness needs! Jackie P.
