I've spent this past year renting units in NYC, and this unit has to be my favorite. The hosts are beyond kind and accommodating. The unit has most perfect aesthetic and is located in what I truly believe is the best part of the city. The 1871 House is exactly what you need to make your New York experience feel like home 🫶
Location is good. Sadly, we visited in winter and water run cold for half of our stay. Nothing like freezing 🥶 on the other hand, our check in time was at four, but our check out time was at eleven and they only storage our bags if we payed for it. The toilet seat was cracked smelly and fake leather fome, so we didn’t use it at all. Over all, it could be way better than it is. Location is good. But if you travel with a lot of luggage be prepared to not having space for it in the room.
I had the real New York experience. The pipes made noises all through the night. The room was tiny and everyone was on top of each other. The bathroom also tiny couldn’t even breath without touching the walls. The shower faucet popped off every-time we tried to turn it and we’d have to put it back to turn it. It even popped off in its own while in the middle of showering. There were roaches and bugs flying on our body as we tried to sleep. Key word tried because even in the dead of the night you heard the clacking of the pipes so loud we thought the building was going to explode. I honest didn’t have much hope for living conditions in New York and this place just topped the experience. Over all I had a good trip just couldn’t wait to get back to Houston. 1/10 only recommend if you want to have the typical New York experience. Don’t try the Grimaldi by this location. Worst pizza hands down.

1871 House is such an amazing place - actually a home away from home!! Lia and Warren are the hosts you wish for in a foreign country and provide you with everything you need to feel comfortable from the moment you enter this beautiful old brownstone house. In walking distance to central park and museums as well as the famous Madison Avenue and 7th Avenue it is located in a very nice area in the UES. The Metro is just around the corner. The terrace you can enter from the Garden Room is such a lovely place to relax in New York City.
I can highly recommend staying here long-term, you will love it!!

Well then I have to recommend this amazing place
It was my first time in New York and I had the best three months of my life - and when you're coming to New York for the first time you want to feel safe and absolutely in this apartment I felt safe.
First of all Lia is amazing and caring and helpful and you feel that you have someone that you can talk with. and beyond that the rooms are amazing and
clean and nothing is missing. Really this place made my stay amazing.
The place looks the same as in the pictures and somehow better
I really felt like a princess and wanna come back there

A place to call home. Lia is very kind and thoughtful host. She has incredible eye for style and has made room atmosphere welcoming. The space is quiet, so peaceful for a NYC! There are many restaurants in the area and transportation is great. Highly recommend . The It place to stay while in New York!!
SCAM, BEWARE!
We had a reservation for April 2020, by mutual agreement we canceled it and they would leave the money on account for another reservation. THEY NEVER ANSWERED US.

Perfect stay in the Parlor Suite. The location is incredible - safe neighborhood, quick walk to Central Park/museums/restaurants/grocery stores/shopping, and close to two subway stations with different lines (63/Lexington and 59/Lexington). Lia and family were very kind, communicative, and helpful. The house was exactly suited for my needs, and I loved my stay there. Also, it couldn't be decorated any cuter - the house/rooms are adorable. So happy to have found this place. Would highly recommend for extended stays in NYC! (Also, eat at the Tavern across the street before you leave - some of the best food I had while in NYC.)

Perfect location. So close to the Central Park and the subway station is right at the corner. Love the brownstone neighborhood and the beautiful park avenue. And the best of all, even though it is in NYC, this place is quiet.
I stayed in the rear library suite. The room is beautiful and neat, though it is not slightly different from what the pic shown. The kitchen is small, but has everything I need. The bath room is newly renovated and looks pretty. A lot of closet space too, which is definitely a plus.
The owner, Lia, and her family are wonderful. I got a warm welcome and enjoyed conversation with them. Lia also generously agreed with my requests, which makes my stay a lot more comfortable and convenient.
Overall, highly recommend!

I went with my parents in August 2019, we got one room with mattresses on the floor. I was surprised to see we got a tiny kitchenette complete with refrigerator. The view was nothing special as our window faced the inside of a four-walled gap in the building. The TV did not work unfortunately but who needs TV when you're on vacation?
I think that relative to the city, the location is good and it was about a 20 minute walk to get to Times Square. But, as is New York City's wont in the summer, it smelled like sewage just outside the building due to the heat but luckily not inside. Many people would gather by the entrance to smoke together, which I didn't really enjoy as we entered and exited. No issues with staff or anything which I think would matter more. Various places to grab some food as well.
Overall did not have any issues with the place, it is not the most luxurious like a DoubleTree or anything but we were outside most of the time so it does not matter to me.

DO NOT BOOK! They have all sorts of sketchy name for this place! On booking.com they are call "The Suite New York" they can also be found under "The Suite at Central NY". Communication was the worst part about this place. they will take your money and never contact you back for a long time. They refuse to accommodate with anything. Response from them are at most two sentences. They don't care about your well being or your time there, they just want your money. Place is in an awful location, lots of constructions. Place and service are not good. WILL NEVER BOOK AGAIN!
Outstanding 5 month stay! The apartment was beautifully decorated with an eye for quality and usefulness. It was thoughtfully outfitted with many amenities and designed to make it a home, more than a living space. It's clear Sylvie and Francesco take pride in what they do, and it extends to the exceptional service and prompt yet warm communication. I would unequivocally recommend Indigo House.

We visited New York in October 2019 and stayed in the Skyhouse (41E 235 W56th Street) for 30 days.

The apartment more than met our expectations. It was well-maintained and clean, it was well-equipped and comfortable with plenty of storage. After many long days of sightseeing it was always a pleasure to come home to the Skyhouse with its expansive view over 8th Avenue and beyond to the Hudson River and New Jersey.

The closeness of Central Park allowed us to escape the hustle and bustle of the city when we felt we needed a break.

Two bonuses were the close proximity of supermarkets – Wholefoods and Gristedes – and subway transport at Columbus Circle and 57th Street.

For us the Skyhouse was a near perfect base from which to explore New York.
It's an absolute great location. You can walk to the time square and empire state building. There is a big bus tour stop close too. The room was quiet and big enough. It is a little dirty (dust and rust) and the hallway looks a little run down.

We had a great stay in the Symphony building. The apartment was well equipped with a huge wardrobe (a lot of hangers), kitchen-ware, appliances etc. Together with beautiful furniture, the apartment has everything you can possibly need in order to feel at home. It's obvious that Sylvie has put a lot of effort into making the apartment cozy and home-like!
The gym and pool on the top floor are really great! And don't miss the Sunday morning breakfast on the 42:nd floor!
The location is great being close to everything!
All the contacts we have had with Sylvie has been very smooth, she is very service minded!
We recommend the Indigo apartments at Symphony house!
We had a wild ride here - 3 rooms in 4 nights due to a water leak. The first room we had was leaking from the ceiling onto the closet door and the bathroom smelled horribly moldy. We were moved to a much nicer room. We moved back into the original room on the second night because the leak was fixed. Well there turned out to be a second leak right onto the bed so we had to move the furniture around. The shower smelled even worse so we couldn't use it - we washed our hair in the kitchen sink. Third night we were given a smaller room, but this one smelled fine and we had no issues with it. The guy who monitors the office was really nice and tried to help us get a decent room, so I can't fault the service.

It feels like you're staying at a friends apartment in college - furniture is cheap, the towels are all mis-matched, the shampoo is a pump bottle shared by past guests (like a retail bottle sitting on the floor) and the soap is minuscule. I think the rooms need to be renovated, you can tell they were at one point, but the cabinets are starting to fall apart and the bathrooms needed to be regrouted/re-tiled. There was no AC even though it's listed as having it because they are window units installed in the summer - that should be made known in their listings.

I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you are looking for an economy hotel with front desk only available from 9am-6pm in an old building. Next time we come to the city we will stay in a branded hotel with 24 hour service.
The only plus of this hotel is location. It is very close to all main places. All other is terrible!
In most places in the room it is very and very dirty and I have a feeling that they have never been cleaning there. Also there is a problem with water in the wc, it was going out of the toilet 2 times during my 6 days stay. The elevator is extremely slow, it takes so long to get to your floor. In the other part of the building there are a lot of immigrants live there and always the smells of kitchen and food. Also there are insects running on the floor.
A real nightmare this place...very very dirty, no service, no wifi in the room, very very noisy especially with people living there all the time...just one lavatory for all the floor, no mirror in the bathroon, no soap, no hook To tie your things in the shower, no flat and staff very unwelcoming and the only excuse for problems is "we are not an hôtel". I travel a lot and I've never Seen this before in my life. Run away
Studio apartment was very clean and it was a good location. Staff was nice.

The building controls the heat which was extremely loud and hot in a tiny studio apartment, fan setting was on the fastest speed and it was too high to slow it down, shower took 10 minutes to get hot and it was just warm at best, guests are responsible for taking trash out even though you pay for a cleaning service, Double bed had plastic mattress cover which was very loud every time you moved, bed mattresses were not very comfortable.

My wife and I stayed here for 65 days during the summer of 2018. We took full advantage of the rooftop sports club and lounge, relaxing in the busy city on the 44th floor! We loved the location of the apartment, on the corner with great natural light throughout the day. The living is a great room to lay in, reading, watching movies, or watching the city life through the big windows. We enjoyed the large bedroom closet and my wife took full advantage of the space filling it with new clothes from 5th Ave! Sylvie helped us navigate our first short term lease, answered all our questions patiently and professionally, and returned our security deposit with a thoughtful thank you card. We would recommend this apartment to our friends and family and would stay again without hesitation!

I am an artist who recently stayed in New York at 1871 House for two months during the run of a solo exhibition in Chelsea.
With two subway stations within a short one or two block distance, the location was incredibly convenient and made getting around NY very easy. With the Upper East Side being a somewhat quiet area in comparison to other areas I have stayed, I never experienced loud noises that might affect sleep during the night. There are many good restaurants and grocery stores very close by. As a woman alone in Manhattan, I always felt safe in the area and the house.
The hosts of 1871 House are lovely people, very friendly and helpful. Though they live on the main floor of the house, I rarely saw them, unless we made arrangements to meet. Any questions I had were answered promptly by email. The whole house is very quiet and only once ran into other tenants in the hall.
I stayed in two suites- the front parlour and the rear library. Both were very comfortable for an extended stay with kitchen facilities, sitting and work areas. Both suites have big windows with lots of light and high ceilings, making it feel quite spacious.Decor is very fitting for the time period of the house. Housekeeping came once a week, arranged at my convenience.
I highly recommend an extended stay at 1871 House. Great landlords, great brownstone, great area, and the best deal in Manhattan!

Avoid this place. Very dodgy and overpriced for what you can find within the same radius. We were booked for 7 nights, stayed one and left the next day - not even there for 12 hours. We arrived to no bath towels, uncomfortable bed, a hole burnt though in the microwave door, very limited kitchen facilities, dodgy elevators, no fire sprinklers throught the whole building, one of the rooms our travelling companions had didnt even have a fire alarm, if the place burnt down youd go with it as it felt that unsafe, management were rude and unhelpful, mould in showers, tepid water at best you get out of the shower, unable to control temperature in the room - it was hot or hot, floaties in the water out of the sink tap so you couldn't even make a coffee, bed sheets were stained, noisy neighbours, windows held in with tape, tv did not work, bathroom was that small you couldn't dry yourself in it. We paid over $4k for 2 rooms, got a better price and much nicer rooms around the corner. Money we won't get back unfortunately, but at least we feel safer and more comfortable.

We first heard about 1871 House from a good friend who has traveled to New York on a regular basis. We wanted to get away from the craziness of midtown so we booked this upper east side accommodation based on her referral. We were very satisfied to say the least. Situated just off Lexington & 62 Street East, it was perfectly located to feel like you were part of the NYC community without all the tourists. Metro options were only a block or two away to whereby you could easily access all of the boroughs. The accommodation was very comfy & the service team were nothin short of 5 Stars. Small grocery stores were only steps away to provide simple breakfast options for our parlour suite. There are too many dining options to mention, but Zoe and the 1871 House staff have a great list of restaurant recommendations. We will most definitely be coming back.....
We loved our stay!!! The manager Yunnie was really nice and polite and the staff members were very nice as well! Everything was clean and neat, we read some previous reviews and could not understand the complaints. It's apartment living so there is going to be a little noise! The elevator may be a little old but it definitely does it's job with no problems. It really seems like the people who are complaining are definitely used to being serviced 24/7! The location is great not far from Times Square and there is a subway nearby! IT IS NOT A HOTEL!! 🙂 We will definitely be back! 💙💙-Atlanta's Best Cookies
I wish we had been able to experience this hotel. We were not due to NYC and all airports shutting down flights and having many delays due to massive flooding. Despite our trip being cancelled (which we were VERY sad about) Studio Plus would not refund the cost of our room - $436. They have a no cancellation policy which we had 0 intention of doing. We were going to NYC to see my niece Graduate from College! I wanted to be there! I had no choice when the airlines cancelled 2 flights. So you would expect that when your flights are cancelled repeatedly and there is pretty much a natural disaster happening, they would reconsider. They were completely inflexible.

This is when they FINALLY - after 3 weeks and 4 emails responded. They said they would send a form for refund and then didn't. Repeat emails and attempts for communication. They then offered $56 back - after I filled out a form that included sending them pictures of both my ID and my CC back and front. Not shiesty at all (sarcasm). The most ridiculous company I have ever dealt with in all my travel international and in the US. So they got paid $436 for us not to stay there due to a trip being cancelled by 2 different airlines. Stay far far away if you expect any consideration or reasonable response.

I stayed in the deluxe suite and it was dirty. They charge a $50 cleaning fee however the place was not clean. I had to purchase sheets for the beds because the sheets provided were stained. I packed my own personal towels and I'm glad I did because they too were stained. The pictures on the website are not accurate, they make the room seem a bit larger than what it truly is. The location is the best thing about this place. If they cleaned it thoroughly or put a fresh coat of paint on the walls it wouldn't be that bad of a stay. I would also suggest smaller furniture for the living space/kitchenette/bathroom.

My husband and I stayed at Indigo House for the second time, this year for one month, last year for 3 months. A terrific choice in every way! The apartments are excellently furnished and very well equipped, with comfortable bed, fine kitchen, big windows on the 41st floor, really everything you need and more, to a very high standard. My husband swam every day in the pool on the top floor -- great gym there too. Sylvie is a wonderful host, responsive and helpful, and the building's service people are friendly. For us, the location was perfect: walk to all theatres, museums, and Central Park, Whole Foods 2 blocks away, superb restaurants. Just a top-notch experience!

My husband and I stayed at one of Sylvie's apartments while in transition between homes and it was an incredibly pleasant and easy experience. The building and apartment were delightful. The apartment was very tastefully decorated and had all the essentials to make it an extremely comfortable stay. Sylvie was incredibly attentive, responsive and kind throughout our stay. Highly recommended!

My wonderful, very sophisticated, and exacting, northern Italian cousins (an energetic older couple) stayed at Indigo House for a month and loved it there. The apartment was perfectly comfortable, nicely furnished, terrific in every way. Sylvie was extremely responsive and helpful from start to finish. My one cousin needs a completely darkened bedroom to sleep, for example, and Sylvie helped make sure the window coverings produced the right effect. Otherwise, the obvious things of it being a great building, with great views, in a great location, can't be overstated. The roof garden and lounge are wonderful bonuses. There's no question that on the next trip my cousins will be booking Indigo House!

Sylvie's apartment was an absolute delight to stay in, it is beautiful and incredibly well furnished. I felt at home immediately upon arrival. Everything about it I love and Sylvie has been so kind and helpful to me. I couldn't speak more highly of Sylvie, she has answered all of my questions and queries clearly and concisely, often responding in the same day. She has made the process of me coming to the states so much easier. The apartment is also in a great location with everything you could want within walking distance. The apartment and Sylvie have both helped me come to the conclusion NYC is certainly the best city in the world.
