Reading reviews and website, The fact that they don’t take children DESPISES me! Do you not realize that’s discrimination? Do you not realize we are in 2024? You take animals but don’t take children. That’s so wrong in so many ways! So people in y’all’s families with children couldn’t stay there either???? Y’all should be ashamed. I will NEVER recommend staying here.
Found park old and dated. Filled with full time residence. Creepy park employees hanging around the pool wasnt condusive or befitting for all the very young children. Not to mention weed smoking outsiders filtering through slowly playing music. No security or gates. Restroom shower area wasn't cleaned for the 3 days we stayed. Hot water ceased to work our last night there necessitating a cold shower. Our RV parking site was covered in sand and in severe need of sweeping/ cleaning. Only plus was the shuttle to the park. Driver gets A+ for his under staffed efforts for running the front desk and shuttle every 30min. Most likely will not return.
The staff at Camp Wilderness Cabins is the most professional and kind staff. They truly care about taking care of their guests in multiple ways, like sending the tram on extra trips so no one sits in the hot sun, being very polite and understanding and patient! I am glad we stayed here and it is so accessible to Carowinds, one of our favorite parks!
Great location, nice staff. The campground is old and has a lot of dirt (no grass), there is also a fulltimers section that looks like a junkyard, all overgrown and the trailers are falling apart. Would be nicer if they put some money back into the resort. Shuttle to the park was great.
Nice campground just minutes away from Carowinds. Very pretty and tree lined campground. Staff are very friendly and accommodating.

Be warned. There's very little for your little kids here. No playground, and pool closes at 8. They have some lawn games but they go away at 8 also. Not a reason not to stay here, but be ready and plan accordingly.
This is our third time staying here. A lot of shade and quiet. The wifi is good. Surprisingly,
no cable TV for the price of the camping. The sites are not very well maintained. They are very muddy when it rains to the point that the water was so high up to the steps to get out of your camper. Pull through sites are better. The campground needs some TLC. Very convenient for Carowinds and taking the shuttle there.
Great staff, great location, unbelievably reasonable price. Campground is generally quiet and clean from the bathhouse to campsite. Partial to predominantly shaded let's you escape the often relentless Carolina bluebird sunshine. Be sure to have a pressure regulator for your water hookup.

Mike and the crew run a great RV park. Can’t say enough good things about these guys. It’s a hidden gem.
Stayed here for 2 nights earlier this year. It’s a really good campground. They have nice tent spots, and it was also a great alternative given that Charlotte hotel prices are annoyingly high (at least from my experience).

I will say that the shower handles were super weird, but at the end of the day it’s still a shower with warm water, and that’s all I can really ask for in a campground that was only $28/night in a decent location. They also have laundry as well.

Great park for RVing while visiting Charlotte. Friendly staff and a very well maintained campground. Electronic gate security and a large clean bathhouse with laundry facility.
The Tyler Goldsmith, realtor team in Charlotte NC strives to be the best realtors in Charlotte NC. With that we we have our annual camping trip, a McDowell, Nature, Preserve Campground has a private field to it, but also very assessable to and from Charlotte NC. They have bathrooms, showers, and top camp site locations on their massive acreage park
A fairly nice place. Luckily it didn't rain because of it did, we would have been surrounded by mud. Pad for the RV but no grass. Just dirt.
It's a clean park but when out walking, we walked through an area of seasonals that were a mess.
Staff was friendly and helpful.
The staff at "The Lodge " are incredibly nice. In particular one older gentleman, we were in contact with quite a bit. He is just the type of person needed at the campground. Friendly and helpful. The campground is clean and quiet. You will hear the planes quite often, but you get used to it. Plenty of fun things for children to do. Big games outside, a net of some sort and places to ride their bikes supervised. The shuttle is great to take carowinds. A lot nicer then trying to find a parking space. Take advantage of it for sure! We enjoyed our stay!
Very nice campground next to the amusement park bit far enough away to be peaceful and quiet at night. Sites are well spaced. Some pull thru. Can accommodate big rigs. Mostly level. Nice washrooms. Pool.

Part of McDowell nature preserve the camp ground has different kind of camping sites. The ones with wooden camping deck are the most convenient to setup a tent. The bathrooms are clean and they also sell firewood and ice at the site. The modern sites have electrical outlet and running water. There are RV and camper sites too and they are good at enforcing quiet hoursm

This was our first time camping here and it was great! All of the staff were incredibly nice and helpful! It was so nice to have a tram take us right to the park, so we didn't have to deal with parking! If you don't have a season pass, this can save you lots of money! The sites were small, but there was still a lot of room for my kids to play and run around!
Nice campground, clean, nice staff. Lots of walking trails. Close to Lake Wylie. Reasonably priced. My only complaint is that check in is at 3:00. We got there a little early because we had to get out of other site at 11. Staff tried to accommodate us as best they could with the policy of 3:00 check in. If anyone reads this reserve early this place is popular. For good reason.

Seemed like a nice campground but pretty much luck of the draw as to who is camping there. This time there is a large group partying and it is 11:30 and no end in sight. Sheriff was aware of the large group and ignored the issue and left for the night.
The RV campground is nice. If this is your first time here, you should be aware that this campground is located on an amusement park. The site price per night changes depending on the amusement activities. $89 Friday night, $103 Saturday night, $68 Sunday night. I did not go there for the amusement park. They also sent emails saying I could pay to reserve a cabana or chair by the pool. I wasn’t interested in the pool but thought it was funny that no one was using the pool. The lady who checked me in didn’t seem interested. She didn’t go over any details of my stay which is why they missed one of my days there. It was resolved but frustrating. They don’t send confirmation emails or I would’ve found the error. I wouldn’t stay here again. $261 for 3 nights is way too high.

Camped here 4 nights. Very shady and clean. Some of the sites aren't level so be prepared. Only 2 sites have sewer hookups but there is a dump station. Staff was very friendly. Shower and bathrooms are very nice. Stayed at site R3.
Great area if you are going to the park. Nice pool with good space to do laps. Passes are $42 at the RV park and cover entrance to the water park and theme park.
Bathrooms lacked AC and the spaces are a bit close with mostly dirt and minimal grass.
Flat concrete pad with space to park a 42’ 5th wheel and 1 ton truck at an angle.
Enjoy!
I just arrived here today and I will say that I have gone camping probably 150 200 times in my life
I'm 62 years old; when I first pulled up to this site;
The pad for my tent was level gravel
It had some steps to climb and a fire pit. Luckily I had my tent up before the tarral downpour 😂
Once I got set up I went to check out the bathroom; I cannot believe what I was seeing. I have never experienced anything like this I will be here for the week maybe next week too since its closer to my work.
I would highly recommend this place to anyone either stopping by want to stay a weekend or want to go camping for a week
Trails are amazing and you can actually walk them or drive to lake Wylie
Very very highly recommended there was 10 Stars available I would give it to 😁

This place is great. Full hookups, close to the city and super friendly/helpful. You cannot beat the price and location. We needed a last minute spot that was close to the city to see a concert and they helped us out.
The perfect place to stay when visiting the park. We stayed in our own trailer. We visited the pool - very nice and noticed they we’re building a gazebo for more shaded seating. Clean restrooms, great laundry room, all staff were helpful with my zillions of questions. Shuttle to and from park was a huge perk.
A great place to stay in Charlotte if you have activities to do outside the campground. Very reasonable and felt safe there. Ginny was very accommodating!
We wanted to camp someplace close for our first time in our new motorhome. This was great. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The grounds were really clean and well kept. The bathrooms were spotless. There appear to be a small number of folks who are long-timers (bird feeders and more semi-permanent decorations) but not a lot. It was quiet and lovely and would be great if you have kids and also want to go to the amusement park.

The park may not be an ideal destination for families with children, according to Claudio Reyes' review on RV Market Reviews. Reyes suggests that the park does not have a family-friendly atmosphere and discourages families with children from visiting. However, it is important to note that this is only one individual's experience and perspective. Conducting further research, such as reading reviews from other sources or contacting the park directly, may provide a more comprehensive understanding of their policies towards families with children.

This park is perfect for adults.

This park is geared towards long term tenants but will accommodate short and medium term renters as well. Short term rentals are in a gravel lot at the front of the park. The amenities there are no-frills but everything you need at a reasonable price. Despite being in a commercial area of town, the park is very safe and has mature landscaping. Very convenient to downtown, NoDa, and the University area. I love it here!

Okay, this is not a resort and my five stars would not indicate that the park is a luxury park. It only offers 30 amps, the water pressure is low and the sewer connection is not threaded. The price is not a bargain, but is reasonable for a site close to downtown.
The sites are level and crushed rock. Even though it is practically on a busy street, being set back a little really seems to reduce the traffic noise. The wifi is blazing fast. Most of all the owners really go out of the way to get you settled in and tend to your needs. For those reasons I give 5 stars.

We had a great experience! .Mike and his wife were very professional and friendly. We are traveling from Maine to Ga and wanted a an easy affordable place right off rt 85 and we got it. The property is a well maintained little slice of country heaven in the middle of a slightly rugged city area :) I had a nice peaceful walk through the property where many people reside in their RVs. . I would definitely stay again. Thank you!
Stayed here while on assignment for 3 months and it was absolutely wonderful! Friendly owners and they keep the grounds well maintained. Thanks for letting us stay with you! We will be back :)

We needed a place to stay with our travel trailer while visiting relatives. Although the area for transients is small, the gravel lot was level with full hookups, clean and safe. The area was very conveniently located to the interstate. The host was friendly and helpful. Campers must have their own bathroom facilities. No public bathhouse, which rules out a long term visit for me.

Stayed for a weekend while in Charlotte for an event, this RV parked worked but that's about all there is. Prices are low which helps, most people are full timers/monthly. Spots are very tight, quantity over quality. I made a reservation but didn't have anything to show for it (no text or email confirmation). It is easy to get to due to proximity to major interstates but we probably won't be staying here again, it'll get the job done but isn't a great experience.

We stayed here with our 5th wheel for 4 days over Christmas 2018. Short term stays are put onto a gravel parking lot at the entrance so this isn't really a campground. (no amenities, no picnic table, no fire ring) We selected this location because it was the closest RV park to downtown Charlotte. Upon reflection we should have selected a campground close to 495 bc we would have had just as easy access to all parts of Charlotte (via 495) and probably more ambience. Power and water supply were adequate, WiFi was very poor to non existent. The area was clean and concealed from the main road however we did not feel comfortable with the security of the area. (Busy road, Sketchy neighborhood) Every day we heard the train and police and ambulance sirens going by which didn't bother us but some people might not like it. The gravel lot was also pretty tight and if it had been full, it would have been a real challenge to back in.

Super helpful getting my coach nasty tanks cleaned out after the Panthers tailgate party! Nice folks that run the place. Just watch out for all those speed bumps! Easy to get into and out of. reasonable RV dump price.
We (myself, hubby & small dog) stayed in this RV park for 6 months because we needed something close to my husband's job. However, I would not recommend it nor do we plan to stay there again.

It's an inexpensive and pretty clean place. But, that's about all it's got going for it. There are no picnic tables, fire rings, bath houses or other amenities normally enjoyed at most campgrounds. The spots are very close together and the noise levels & pets are not monitored or addressed. The majority of the park is mobile homes with some RV spots in a parking lot type of arrangement. The sites are not level because everything slopes down to the street or is on a hill in the woods. It was very hard to back in our 5th wheel up the gravel slope.

The owners are very hard to deal with due to a perpetual grumpy and condescending attitude towards everyone. They change policies and prices as it suits them (Noting is given in writing for either). Their "office" is the living room of their home where they also run an in-home day care. To say that they are less than professional would be an understatement.

This park should only be considered if you have no other options and are desperate for a place to stop.

Could not have been more pleased! Stayed 9-17 to 9-22 2013. Very friendly reservation made, without credit card. Very friendly and helpful upon arrival, and allowed a late afternoon departure without extra fee.

VERY convenient to downtown Charlotte-at straight shot in 4-6 lanes and 8 miles. The camping area was very well maintained, and the camping spots were evenly and smoothly covered with very small gravel. Had a nice area to walk dogs at the end of drive. All sites seemed very level side to side, and with slight slope back to front for drainage I would think and seemed a bit wider/more spacious than many other RV parks.

Will be staying there next time for sure!
